noticed this in scrabble outdoors in Newburgh and environs before London got locked down any worse...

    accelerated bricks and mortar diminishment

the disappearance of a venue where many lvc jeans done been tried on...

a visible demonstration of new corporate commitment to lvc?

    goodnight sweet prince...

still, at least in looking at the building noticed this plaque about this shop: good work Bill Green / aka Vince!

I so remember the time when they allowed me free rein in their stockroom and I was able to find some Valencia Street models.

How is the MiA fit compared to the later Turkey ones?

My first pair of raw denim jeans were a pair of Turkey 505 bought in 2013 and they were kind of tight In the thigh. Still wore them like hell. Maybe I should dig out of wherever they are hiding...

Here are a pair of Turkey 505s W32 L34 on top of a pair of MiA 505s W34 L34. The waist appears to be the same, the length is about 1 inch longer on the Turkeys but the line of the leg and hem are slimmer.

Nice solidly made jeans, using Japanese milled denim. Looking forward to the forthcoming picd.

Surely 1998s are 555 Valencia Street made with Cone? I have worn at least 4 pairs of that vintage and whilst the waist is tighter than 501s of the same vintage (possibly due to the cinch) I have not experienced significant undersizing problems. The sizes I have worn are 32 x 38, 34 x 38 and 36 x 38. The smallest 501 size from that era which I can fit into are 31 x 38 which are tight.

Here we go. Never bothered doing up that crotch ever since it blew back around 2016? Arcuate on the is all gone, right one struggling. Maybe i should do them up, though I don’t really for these type of fits anymore

Difficult to compare the fit as I don't have them in the same sizes. The Turkish ones are quite (but not too) tight in the thighs.

    Rediscovering 505s!

I stopped buying 505s when they started being made in Turkey. My first pair of 555s on the right were too big (w36 L34). I got 2 Made in the USA pairs (W34 L34)  from S1 2004 in March 2004 (not sure where 1 pair is, but the other is in the centre) but grabbed an opportunity to get 3 Made in Turkey pairs w32 L34 recently (1 is on the left and the other which I have been wearing for a week is at the bottom) and I am loving them.

    IMG_20201130_0823173.jpg

Found! The missing pair of Made in the USA  505s in the worn jeans pile. They are W34 L34 and fit well at present but are probably not worn since washing so will stretch out. Hopefully the W32 L34s will be a snugger fit when washed.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, makes me wonder what £5 in 1966 equates to in 2018!

I remember clearly that between about 1966 and  1971 they were 59/6d which was a fraction under £3. I would look at them in the shop windows.

funny, i got a similar pair from an eBay purchase today, same production run. i can tell that these now run true to size, as most recent rigid LVC jeans do.

this is the 1st pair in years. i had worn several pairs over the years and can confirm that the kaihara denim achieved one the best fading results.

btw. my rolling stones avatar shows joe dallesandro wearing original 505s  ;)

    enjoy your new pair.

Given the pic was taken before April 1971, I would think it more likely that Joe was wearing 501ZXXs or 502XXs rather than 505s. Certainly it was these which were sold in England at that time. They were mainly sold shrink to fit whereas the 505s were pre-shrunk. To me at the time the numbers were an immemerable jumble of numerals Zs and Xs so the jeans being sold in England were probably 501ZXXs, (which Joe's jeans look like) all with Scovill or Talon zippers. I never saw button flies being sold in the shops in England.

However it sounds if you may have more definitive info in which case are you able to share it?

If true, that's unfortunate. I always buy the longest length available at the time of purchase. I like to have extra material for patches.

With those jeans, the dry cleaner might become your closest friend. Just be sure they are dropped off for actual dry cleaning, and not washing. Dry cleaners usually offer both services.

Thanks. I'm not going to start dry cleaning. Fortunately I have a good stock of other vintages.

  11. Thank you.

What does appear clear is that the longest leg length is L34 and that L36 has been abandoned. This must limit the number of potential customers.

I have never had less than L36 in Levis stf since 1969 so L34 won't fit me. I have also bought L38 out of choice when available (both pre and during  the life of LVC).

My current 1937s V2 are L36 and after shrinkage I wouldn't want them any shorter.

I may have long legs but at 5ft 10 inches I am hardly a freak!

Perhaps I am missing something: is an L34 really an L36?

I know it’s not explicitly clear from some retailer websites (including LVC!) but others state they are selvedge and here’s a conclusive photo from the Goodhoodstore site:

Thanks @propellerbeanie - this looks like it may be lower rise and slimmer than the (imho excellent) 1976 model. Interestingly, LVC produced the short-lived 1983 model about 10 years ago but I don’t think it proved to be popular. I’ve no idea how accurate the 1984 model is or what the denim will be like but the cynic in me thinks it might simply be a way for LVC to produce a new, slimmer cut in a modern style (no hidden rivets) to fill a gap in the market.

The 1984 vintage are now on sale. Selvedge or no selvedge - it doesn't say.

501ZXXs in 1970 bought in 1969 - pity black and white pic.

501ZXXs bought in June 1971 (big E). The rear side pocket seams on these were parallel rather than splayed at the top.

  15. This is the pair of 1937 201XXs which I have been breaking in mostly continuous wear since April 2020. No soaks and no washes.

^ I’m not quite sure what you’re saying here - are you implying that the 1971s are the same as the 1976s but with a different tab and labelled differently? I think the 1971s are supposed to be a slimmer cut.

As I have neither cut in LVC I can't say. Funnily enough, a pair which I had from 1971 were more generously cut than a pair from 1969.

It's all about marketing and creating hype. LVC is no worse than the sneaker brands creating hype.

The more cynical might say that they made too many L32 1976s,  got muddled up with the tabs and had to think of a way of getting rid of them. I think the tabs on my S1 2006 Taylor Togs pairs above were a mistake. They were on the shelf in American Classics and I bought 2 pairs of each tab all at the same time.  They are well put together and the seams are tightly sewn with lots of wrinkling. I have worn a pair with a little e tab into the ground.
