  1. they did produce a run labeled SH at the end of the model number, which FC marketed as at  lower price point (made in China) in Japan.

they might have developed or used a fabrics together, but I think that was pretty much it...

I have checked the up coming jeans for the 40th anniversary. I also noticed a anniversary jacket, a type 1. Can we expect more items, items that cannot yet be seen on the SDA-website? I would like a type II.

you will have to check the different shop blogs - they will do shop specials for the anniversary (like a salesman-sample type 1 or 2 last week) - not sure how you would get them to ship, though...

  3. I wonder if that fascination has to with the availability of these models - being military supply could have had a couple of consequences:

    • big quantities available
    • people willing to part with issued garments, trade or sell...
    • surplus supply quantities sold
    • cheap, affordable
    • outdated military and civilian stocks being made available periodically
    • etc...
  4. take it to a tailor - should be simple and not too expensive to change professionally.

just make sure the tailor has the new top stitching start and end under the collar, so that the visible part of the collar stand around the button hole stays clean from overlapping top stitching...

  5. aside from personal, aesthetic preference (keeping things purist or raw, indigo loss, cease lines, etc.), I would think that one's washing and drying regimen will largely depend on jeans sizing.
unless you only buy pre-washed jeans, never make sizing errors and/or never get close to outgrow a pair, you might find yourself in the situation where you need to maximize or minimize shrinkage from the start.

I started off going raw, but ran into problems with mid-to-heavier weight denims and their respective shrinkage - I have long given up worrying about cease lines and indigo loss. most of these things will happen eventually, not matter how long you intend to delay them.
some of the best fades actually come from pairs with extensive and rigorous washing regimes...

  6. in the end it comes down to domestic retailers vs. overseas retailers:

    • cheaper retail prices, cryptic measurement charts, extra shipping costs, hidden customs costs and taxes, no return policy or additional shipping costs
    • higher retail prices (including import, customs and taxes), lower shipping costs, return policies...

for the more exotic brands or models overseas retailers are often the only solution.

FYI - Canoe Club has a few pairs of San Francisco Rigid and La Jolla rigid & washed on sale.

When I was in their Boulder store a couple of months ago trying on many different pairs, I tried the La Jolla. Since there's a lot of interest in SOC, I was pretty stoked to find some IRL that I could try on, and on sale no less. However, the La Jolla was one of the worst fitted pairs I've ever tried on. Did not work for me at all.

remotely connected to the posts over in the Samurai thread - Stevenson, so far, has been the most disappointing brand - nothing horrible, but I can't seem to make any of their regular cuts work for me, ether...

alas, one of these day I will try the rest of their cuts and will find a pair I can make work for me.

Why couldn't you make them work? You've posted fit pics of other brands/pairs (but I can't name specifics; maybe I'm recalling some OOE's from a a few years back...) that I feel are far bigger/looser than the S510... ;)

I never tried - the cut is not a concern, but the sizing and measurements of this particular pair upon its release really scared me off.

at that point Samurai was releasing multiple AI pairs year after year and I didn't feel compelled enough to buy yet another pair.

having said all of that, they certainly do look good on you!

Thanks Foxy2! Really helpfull. A bit confusing as well. When comparing these measurements with the ones on OD, one might think they did not shrink in the Washing proces. I guess i Will be ok with size 31. 33 is too big, 32 as well (probably size 32 has a waist of 42).

    kind regards from the Netherlands

This pair has been stretched out after washing.

stretching usually happens as a natural process over time with wear - a lot of pairs, if not the majority, will stretch back to the original measurements or beyond. Certainly this will depend on how you size your denim and how you wear it. If the denim needs to stretch it will most likely stretch in the waist.

a more convenient way to stretch your jeans is to mechanically stretch them by using a waist expander.

my pair did certainly shrink a good 1.5 inches in the waist, if not more - I was able to stretch them back to the measurements given.
