  1. No. Go on the internet (either POTN or fredmiranda) and pick up a used one for $200-$300 less and get a lens with the saved money ;)

Also with a 5DII you have the option from MagicLantern to shoot video in RAW.

    Edit: or save $500.....

Koven: Sick shots man. Btw for that AB800 (or 1600 or 400?) get a BD for it!! It will make ALL the difference in your photos, also could get an Elinchrom deep octa... with one of those you get orgasmicly perfect light.

  2. I love to shoot both, I just can never afford proper processing of the film...it's 11 dollars a roll then another 10 for the disk. For a handful of good shots it's not cost effective for me. I do use it when I have something really special to shoot. Then I will get prints to keep, which is another 3-7 dollars depending on how many I get.

Wow, really? It costs me about $4-$5/roll to develop, but investing in a scanner is definitely worth it imo.

I am slowly becoming more in favor of film especially since it has a look that can't be reproduced by digital. Luckily when I do photo-shoots I have free artistic reign, so if I choose to use film then no one will say no, it's only when I shoot events or more commercial stuff that I can't use film.

  3. IMO Less DOF = The need to get more creative.

I can say that when I first started shooting models I would only shoot wide open, but once I started experimenting with stopping down and using less DOF, I found myself improving way quicker.

Considering you don't shoot a lot, R, I would also recommend considering a x100s. I know it's a fixed lens, but if I recall correctly you only have a 35 and 50? You also have to be realistic with yourself and although you can interchange lenses with the X-Pro 1, do you really think you'll be buying tons of lenses as well as how often you'll be shooting?

Also some food for thought... what about film? Consider going all film? If I was doing photography for myself I'd be all film, but I need digital for what I shoot.

  4. Even if it was proper to wash it with beach water that shits just un-comfy. Not only does it suck to have sand in your crotch normally but in 17oz+ denim? What the hell are you people who do that smoking? I mean to each his own, but I can't see that ever even being comfortable, yet fun at the same time.

  5. Very nice Jacob ! I'm trying to get ahold of that new sigma 18-35 1.8 zoom myself, I bet the DoD on the 85 is bonkers

Indeed. Get that new 18-35, I hear the optics on it are nuts! Can't wait to use the 85 for some editorials.

  6. I'm on that 85L grind again. Models will be mesmerized by my huge fucking glass hehehe

No but for real, can't wait to put this baby to more use.

  7. Thanks laxlife1234, I totally forgot about the xx03 cut.  My experience has only been with 2109 and I did a bit of research on the xx05 vs xx09 cut prior to pulling the trigger.

It's all good. The xx05 is a pretty slim straight cut, I find the 3109s to be very very slim in the legs.

  8. ^ I don't believe SG make a 66s cut like S5000.  If you don't need wider thigh measurements like the S5000 cut than the SG1105 model can work for you, which is a slim straight 14.5oz denim.  Safe bet for sizing is to go TTS.  Hope that helps.

I don't believe the xx05 is close enough to the S5000. I would have to say the xx03 model is more like the S5000 cut as it's a wider/fuller cut like the S5000.

I have a pair of S5000's in a 29 along with my 29 SG2105's and the S5000's are a far fuller cut, just like when I used to own the SG1103EX's.

  9. I'm wondering if I should size down on the SG1105 and SG2105?

I'm a tag size 33 in flathead f310/3001. Actual waist measurement is about 33 now.Can go for 32 for a snug fit.

I've tried on size 33 for the Strike golds at a local retailer, but found that the size 33 for Strike gold is much bigger than the flat head size 33.I have approximately about an extra 2.5 inches space in the waist for Strike golds in 33.

    Should I get a size 31 or 32 for SG1105/SG2105??

Can't comment on the 1105's, but go TTS in the 2105's, if you're in between sizes go down. You also have to account for shrinkage when buying so of course they're going to be bigger in the waist pre-soak. If it were me I'd go for the 32, 31 if you want them to be skinnier.

  10. Can anybody with the SG 2109 or 2105 comment on how the weight feels?  Do they feel heavy?  At 17oz they are kind of in the middle ground.  Does the fabric breathe well or will it be too hot for ~80-95 degrees?

Don't worry about the weight, worry about the cut. Of the two, the 2105's are far easier and comfier to wear during the summer weather as my 3109's just stick to my leg and it gets very un-comfy.

Honestly it's come to the point where when it's over 85* I just don't wear jeans as shorts are far more comfier, but if you must and don't mind a more straight cut go for the 2105s imo. If you want fit pics I can definitely post up some older ones.

  11. If you can afford to hold onto it for a little while longer I would try it again.  It took me some time to get used to, but once I learned to slow down and think about everything first I fell in love with the Mamiya 7.  Also the 43mm lens is amazing if you haven't tried it.

I have a G1, but gonna upgrade it eventually I hope.

Oh I'd love to hold on to it and it's not that I don't want to use it or anything, but I actually can't afford to shoot with it. I'm in college now and I have no income to afford the film or developing.

  12. I own a V600 and I managed to get a brand new one for $150. Its not the best scanner out there, bit fwiw I get good quality scans and as I'm still learning film I don't think its really worth it to own anything more expensive.
