  1. i think these are lvc but not sure which model are they... can anyone identify? http://www.yoox.com/item.asp?sec=1&YOOX=LEVI'S+RED+TAB&dept=men&tskay=3FD17CD7&rr=1&cod10=42124435TF&sts=sr_men80

They are the 2005 edition of the 1890 501. If they're your size, snap 'em up. They are IMO the best 1890 to date. The earlier, valencia street model had the wrong patch and a shallow pocket arcuate. This season's line up has an 1890, but apparently they put the wrong rivets on them.

I have a pair of those 2005 1890's and they are lush! Thick leather patch, with the correct text, hammered-in rivets and the denim is Amazing.

  2. maybe this is a good question for Lynn Downey.

seriously...how hard is it to get the size right?

everyone knows the jeans are supposed to shrink from tag size

a 36 measuring 39.5 is absolutely ridiculous and completely useless to a person who thinks theyre buying a 36.

Not only that, but I sent my first pair of 1927's (36/36) back to Cultizm, got them to grab me a measured size 35/34 (actual tagged size 34/34), then when I got them - there was no crotch rivet !! It hadn't fallen off or anything, it just was never put on in the first place! So I sent those back. When the replacement pair turned up, one leg was over half an inch longer than the other! Luckily, after a regular wash, the difference is minimal. But sizing is only one issue - what about the missing thread on the top of the back pockets!

This 1915 c/c 501 better be good, otherwise I may just stick with Lee.

    (sorry for the rant)

  3. Anybody who has the lot 213 jacket: What is the shrinkage like on those? I got one off of ebay some time ago for really cheap and the arms are just a bit too long, but the chest cannot get too much shrinkage if I plan on buttoning it up. Does this denim (normal 201 denim I believe) shrink the normal 10%?

The denim will shrink the normal 10% I believe. I have a 213 in a 44" and it has shrunk nearly a whole size from just one warm water soak. I cant touch it again, or I'll have to hand it to my Son.

    Rnr, what size is yours?

  4. My Knappave 1880s waist overalls S1 08 are tagged 34W 36L. Actual measures were: W36 L35.5 I have soaked it in lukewarm water for a couple of hours (before weart) and cold washed it once after a month of continuous wear. The inseam has now shrunk to 34in. The waist is the same. By fastening the (useless?) cinch-back to the maximum and making a knot, I can reduce the waist to 17.5x2 = 35in. Yet it feels very loose and hangs on my hips where the measure is 37in. Apart from a little fade on the watch pocket there’s no fading and the denim still gives away colour. With gentle force can be pulled over without undoing the waist button

Does anyone know whether the waist will shrink if washed, let’s say at 40degree? does anyone suggest a higher temperature.

When I bought the Knappave I also tried the “oldest oldest†tagged 34W L36 and the waist was at least an inch wider than the Knappave.

Why it is so difficult to apply the right tag to the right jeans?

The knappave are way oversized, so are the 27's. Both pairs I ordered were tagged 36/36, but measured 39.5/36 !!

This is why, with Lvc's inconsistent sizing, It's best to contact your seller first and ask for ACTUAL measurements. Never assume with Lvc sizing.

My 1917's are a 32/34, but measure 35.5/34. This inconsistency, I noticed, first happened around 2003 - and it's been going on ever since.

  5. yes they are really nice.

i got the 1930 101b with the unionalls buttons. i soaked them when i got them and yes the waist does not really shrink. but they fit fine. they look exactly like the ones in pauls book, wich were from the lee archives.

They are nice jeans. I too bought a pair, wanting a pair of jeans to match my 1934 Lee 101 jacket we discussed, but unfortunately the denim is a much bluer, as opposed to indigo shade (is it natural indigo perhaps?). Beautifull repros though, love the details, especially the union-all buttons and the correct period waistband patch.

  6. hello all- have not posted in quite a while. Im thinking about ordering up another pair from cultizm. Id like to try a cinch back model, to add to my 47s. Are advice on which of the current cinch back offerings are slimmest. The y are all a bit baggy in comparison to say a 1966, but any advice would be appreciated. Im a 35w and skinny.

    Thanks

PS-the lack of LVC represenation in the states is truly disturbing. I hope levis does not go the way of Us steel industry and buick....

Try the 1937 501xx, it's the slimmest cinch-back model (with belt loops).

  7. Wow! So you are working on two pair with three pair in the wings? Do you work in jeans? What do you do with your old jeans? Hang onto some that you like and sell the ones you don't?

I feel like a bum I can only manage one pair at a time. I can't wear jeans to work though.

Unfortunately, I dont work in jeans, so I only have the weekends/evenings to do so. I used to, but now work in modern workwear twills. I recently went up a size in jeans (from 32.5-33.5), which means last year I sold all my 'current wearers'. I had to start again. My current line up is:

    1927 501xx one soak + one wash, 34/34,

Lee 101 Cowboy 1930 one wash 32/34 (hemmed),

    1963 551zxx(555) one wash, 34/34 (hemmed),

And for 'smart', 1955 501xx(554) one soak 34/34.

    And in the wings:

    1955 501xx sz34/40 (555)raw,

    1955 501xx sz35/40 (555) one wash,

    1933 501xx sz36/36 ® raw,

    1929 201 (555) sz 36/38 raw,

    1937 201xx (555) sz 36/40 raw,

    1880 knappave sz 34/34 raw,

    1917 501xx sz 32/34 raw,

1944 501xx sz 36/36 (striped shirt pocket) raw,

    And 1963 551zxx sz 34/32 raw...

    Plus many others

Whether I get to wear 'em all is another matter....

  8. They're just the definition of cool aren't they?! I love looking at the oldest models. They nailed down pretty quick what would work and they're pretty much the same well over 100 years later. Even the elements that dropped away like the cinch's were great ideas.

    Absolutely.

I particularly love the jeans from the 20's and 30's. At present I'm gently breaking in some one wash 27's and Lee 1930 cowboy one wash, with a pair of raw 33's ® and some raw 20's 201 (555's) plus some raw 37 201xx's (555) waiting in the wings. Would love to see a US made 1922 repro or a 1936 version. Addicted to the Arcuate evolution !

  9. Would you be looking to sell the 1886s?

Not really, I thought you had a pair? I was told by a reliable source that only something like 50 pairs made their way to the UK, which makes them hard to find. I've only ever seen two other pairs.

  10. Chucko, I know what you mean. I'm holding fire on any more Lvc purchases (except the 1915's) until the goatskin for my GW production Monarch M-422 comes through in about 6-7 weeks. Pretty much finalised my size. Gonna be expensive, but worth it. I'll probably have to sell some stuff too.

  11. Looks like the 1886s have yellow thread and the 1880s have white?

Dr H you have a killer collection. What size are the 1886s?

    The 1886's are a 36/36, but measure 38/35.5. The 1880's are a 34/34, but measure 36/34.

Yeah the 1886's have the paler yellow thread, similar to my 1927's. The 1880's have white thread, similar to the 'Oldest oldest' 1870's.

  12. My favorite arcuate is the one thats on the 1886s from a few years back. Doc H I think you still have a raw pair, right?

I think I'm going to get a pair of the 1915s when Dejan has them.

Yeah, they're still raw with tags

    005-2.jpg

Slightly prefer the 1880's Knappave cut with its higher rise. Although the irritatingly long buckle strap that Erk mentioned previously still prevails.

    001-2.jpg

I hope Aero also gets the 1915's in. Almost finalised my M-422 Monarch too.

  13. who cares? if you've got some pictures lets see em.

    unless you're busy...then I understand.

    011-4.jpg

Sorry, the only pic I have (seen here with 1901's from 2004 and 1890's from 2005). Check out the close ups from Airfrogs' pics one page back.

  14. Which 201s the 37 555s?

Yeah, from '98, It'll be my third pair, but this time I want to wear 'em dry from the oft - For as long as possible.

Lovin the look of your 17's. Wonder how they'll compare to the 1915's?

  15. It looked to me to be a sample that was not intended for sale. I have seen some LVC samples that use the wrong stitching, rivets, buttons, etc. just for the purpose of testing their manufacturing processes.

I have never seen a thai fake jacket, and such an obscure model to be copying would strike me as unlikely.

Could be a thai fake factory sample(?) One of only three made!

  16. Mmm, they sound great. Are they the ones with the quite narrow back pockets, Doctor?

I was examining the denim on my older 1901s the other day... I hadn't notied before but the weft is slightly ecru - Kurabo are a little bit sneaky, they use white thread on the selvage so you don't notice. But the ecru contributes to a very distinct, vintage look. I think they do the same on the 201 fabric, too.

Yes, the pockets on the 1917'sare slim, and asymetrical, although the front pockets are IMO a little shallow for me.

You're right about the 1901's, are they the dark DARK blue ones, early (643M on button reverse)?? If so, they have the same ecru weft as the 2005 1890's.

  17. AF. I Agree, the denim on the 1917's is out of this world, and it's very different from anything else Lvc has produced - This denim has the same ' special feel ' about it that the 201's (555) have. Feels old somehow.

Got my eye on a pair of 201xx's from '98 - maybe wear them raw, as you suggested (turn my furniture blue!)

Am also REally looking forward to the 1915 c/c due out later this year.

  18. I was referring to the length of the buckle side of the strap. it is so long that the farthest adjustment possible only slightly tightens the waist band. I've already clipped the bar in the middle so that it has 2 points.

I know what you mean, Erk. My 1927's had the same problem with the length of the buckle strap, so I shortened the strap.

    013-1.jpg

    014-1.jpg

And this was the THIRD pair I'd ordered, and they were all the same!

  19. For online retailers, the best place is cultizm. Best selection and prices.

Unless you live in the UK. Aeroleather are at least £20 cheaper and also offer a great service, good returns policy and you can phone/email and have the item correctly measured. Talk to Will at Aero.

  20. i know this was answered before, but i can't find the post. what's the difference between the 2008 1901's and the 2009/"new collection" a la cultizm 1901's? or if someone knows the post, can you give me the link. thanks.

The main difference was that Lvc put the wrong (earlier, non-two horse)patch on the 2008 1901's. Looking at pics of the 2009 edition on Doshaburi site, they have the correct patch, but it only says Lot 501, rather than Lot 501XX, which they have written on the 1890 and 1917 leather patches. I think the 2008 were a different cut, slimmer maybe.

I have the 2004 edition 1901, and they have the darkest denim I have ever seen on any Lvc Levis line, although they are WAY oversized.
