  1. Good morning James,

I have received a reply from United States Postal Service advising your item has been confirmed missing.

What usually happens now is Australia Post are able to compensate up to $50 for an uninsured item including postage.

If you want to go ahead with this, please attach or fax invoices or receipts indicating the value of the item.

On behalf of Australia Post, i would like to apologise for any inconvenience this matter may have caused.

    Regards,

    Stan

Fuck. Sorry Youkinorn. Amongst the WA street press, random photos, Godfrey Ho DVD, Material Boy plastic bag and personally written post card, the bulk of the package was some local foods and beers... Little Creatures pilsner, Coopers sparkling ale and Gage Roads lager, a Polywaffle bar, dark chocolate coated macadamias, a bag of Darrel Lea soft licorice, local WA chili beef jerky, and some far-too-expensive nougat...

I think I'm going to send them an invoice for my time spent writing the post card... I hate writing, but it was a labour of love. I'll put something else in the post when I get a chance...

  2. Anyone know where I can score some CP Officer Ankle Boots for a good price? Totally too late for superheros auction and they were my size :-(

Can't find any of those CPs anywhere, but quite a few English shoe makers have a Chukka model that is similar.

  3. Thanks James.... im not so familiar with tax.. does this mean i only need to pay GST? this happens to all purchases from overseas right?? Does it make a difference if i use proxy?

The VAT is the equivalent of GST in the European Union. When shipping to an address outside of the EU, most stores refund the tax, but if the shipment exceeds AUD$1000, that 17.5% will be payable here.

If you use a local EU proxy, they will have to pay this tax, so even if they mark down the consignment value on entry to Australia, there's no real escaping taxes.

need a pair of KKA gloves like these though:

    kka_gloves2.jpg

Missed these on page 98, very very nice

  4. is 15% all you need to pay? Is it worth doing? im trying to cop a rick leather at half price im really tempted..

You pay 17.5% import duty, then 10% GST on the purchase price and import duty (double dipped taxes). Say you spent 1000 EUR..

    That'd be $1,800 AUD, x 1.175 import duty = $2115

    Then $2115 x 1.1 GST = $2326.5

Basically, as soon as you cross the $1000 AUD threshold, you pay 30% in taxes on top.

  5. 50_Ivans, hahaha, for sure my next user name.

Anyways, the sale price was $85 less %25, plus shipping - which is approx $74. Is it new? if so i'd love to take it off your leather crafting hands.

I figure we'll confuse DJI some more... 50_Ivans and lions On High

I think it's worn once, I'll have to check. Don't need to sell it, but I'll think about it ;)

  6. Apparently the young chap in the grey jacket on the sartorialist site is the owner of the label beat poet.

Jacket looks like Prorsum. Does Beat Poet do their own suiting?

I'd love to see more of the Sartorialist's shots from Australia, but I have a feeling most of them are going to end up in columns for various fashion magazines, not on his blog.

  7. There is actually two jackets in the collection that are made in Australia (the suede and velvet trimmed blazers), and they retail around $1400 at Fallow in Bris, but I wanted to keep the majority of the RRP under $1000, which couldn't be done at the quality level I was pushing for. Back when the AUD was sky high in 2008, it made sense to outsource.

The region in India I produce has a long history of leather production, lots of family owned businesses and experienced technicians. The company I use was actually an old customer of mine, buying Australian goat skins and sheep skins.

Now the AUD is lower, and looking at taking V&V to export markets, it's less cut and dry. Most of my competitors sell cheaper jackets for more than my own, which means there is some head room on the price, and more jackets may be produced here in the future - but nothing under $1000 AUD.

  8. Superhero, I'm totally flattered! Business is off to a good start, stores are reporting good sell through and when one of the pieces really clicks with a customer, it's a big win-win. There is enough response and momentum to green light our next two collections, so that's really exciting for us =)

Hey what do you guys think of this jacket, saw it at DJs for $700 down from 1600

It's okay... no doubt that $700 is a heavy discount, but still a solid chunk of change. Better to put it toward something better, even if it requires saving up a bit longer.

Seeing the collar on this Fillippa K reminded me of this one Blackbird posted, the new season Tim Hamilton. Definitely one of the best jackets I've seen this season.

The look book picture is a bit wack, but the jacket is tough. The way the buttoned down collar converts to a hood, dirty buffalo leather, and my favourite detail, the sleeve zipper continues all the way up to the shoulder.

That shoulder zip is just mean....

  10. I've noticed two things about Yoox over the last few seasons...

One, the prices are getting crazier. When they release their new collection, (usually 12 months old, so when FW09 is in shops, FW08 will be on Yoox), typically their pieces will be MORE expensive than the new collection in stores.

Two, the actual stock is getting worse. 95% of the time, you can tell the reason why its made it to Yoox (big size, bad colourway, bad piece, or super niche). Lots of people have jumped in with mini-businesses based on a similar concept. There is probably a dozen or more eBay sellers that raid designers sample sales (the stock that would have gone to Yoox in the past), and then you've got stores like Gilt.com which takes the whole end-of-season clearance to another level.

Some of the items I had my eye on are already sold... One item I want but is waaay over priced is this YSL raincoat / fishtail parka:

Nice mix of English mod, military and techno fabric in a functional piece that you can scrunch up in your bag and carry with you in winter.
