  1. indigo_junkie did your 710s lose much of their stiffness after their first wash?

Not really. Stiff as anything after the first soak, but loosened up a lot after that. Ordinary wash just made it a bit stiffer and then back to the softness it was before. It did make it a bit more bluer, but it's hardly noticeable. I didn't even know until I did those comparision photos.

  2. Are you serious or joking? If you're serious, I'd love to see pics of those Sammies.

Nowadays, I do the same. Chuck them into the washing machine with some normal everyday detergent (no Dr Bronner's in Aus), hot wash and spin and hang dry. And if I had a tumble dry, I'd use that. I usually wash them once a month, or whenever they start to stink. Just easier that way. I used to overbaby them with hand washes with salt and shaved vege soap, but I just don't have time anymore (that and not giving a crap also comes into it.). I'm not worried about the fade being ruined. My Jeanswest jeans were washed every week with the laundry and we're talking about cheap $50 denim for 5 years straight (10 years old now). If my other jeans fade like that pair (and they should considering them being 5 to 10 times more expensive), I'll be happy.

  3. I don't have any experiences with the SDA 103, but I guess you're right then. But then again, imo, the best way to determine the size is just measure your waist. Simple, straightforward and effective ;)

I wish it was that simple for me. I buy via thigh size only. And it's a pain because not a lot of online sellers based in the US (cough*denimbar*context*revolve*cough) show the thigh measurments on their online stores. Rakuten stores aren't much better. Most times I just read over posts, look at fit picks, make a guestimate and then jump into the blue.

  4. Technically you'll be sizing up.

Only in the waist, not in the thigh.

Just waiting for Gordon to get back to me about that shipping enquiry. Going for the W34. I'll live with a bigger waist, no point in having jeans if I can't even get my legs in. And I'm going to be hot soaking the frig out of them when they get here. (what was it, overnight soak to get all the starch out?). So I can't have them shrink too small on me. I'm planning on giving these a gentle all over fade.

  5. My SC40200 has finally arrived! Please excuse the crappy pics.

Props to Spe for the fast pickup and delivery. And props to Bobbejaan for putting the info up. Natural indigos at 30% off regular prices. Terrible timing, but just could not say no. Be eating instant ramen for the next few weeks, but all worth it (and yes, I have money saved for the dubbleworks comp. I have been preparing)

They're hot soaking in the tub right now. They fit alright raw, might be a tight squeeze after shrinking. They felt like they had some kind of coating on them, can't describe it. And the feeling of the sugarcane fibres on your legs is rough. Really rough, and not slubby jean rough. Like coarse pan scourer rough.

  6. Of course not. The point is, does Warehouse expect that the people buying this limited run of jeans are going to participate in this contest. That's whats being asked, and nothing more. Perhaps Warehouse isn't in this just to sell a couple pair of jeans, maybe they are in it just to use the stuff for promotional reasons. Who the hell knows?

Warehouse maybe making this run of jeans for this competition, but whether or not everyone competes, will really bring Warehouse as a brand to the fore, like Samurai and Sugarcane. There's a reason why this is priced the way it is. To get more of their jeans out there to promote the brand. If Warehouse really wanted it to be a "competition" and exclusive, they would have made it with their 1000XX natural indigo and priced it $300. I don't think anyone would up $300 for a pair of (relatively unknown brand) jeans unless they really wanted to compete.

  7. Anyhow, apparently he died from a heroin OD.

   I did not know that!

That's a great pic of Tom Platz's legs. Yeah, no one had freaker legs than him, esp. since he was sort of a midget. 500lb breathing box squats for 20 reps or some freakish thing like that.

  8. I really want these jeans but I think my quads might be too big. How much do these stretch? So sick of wearing spandex....

    PaulDeMayo.jpg

Quadzilla Paul Demayo. I wonder what happened to him? Though if you're going to put up a quad monster example, you'd be better off putting Tom Platz up (height vs thigh circ).

  9. Yes, everyone is happy. Except for me, of course. Because I've got 10lbs to lose. I blame it on Aporto's chicken burgers. I should stop eating them all the time, but it's like they've mix crack into the chilli sauce or something. :(

  10. They don't look like they've stretched THAT much... Still look pretty tight to me.

1 inch in the waist and about 1/2 inch in the thigh for just over 20 wears (and with a hot wash in-between). There's a definite difference.

  11. Are you guys bodybuilders or do you just have big thighs? It's an honest question. I'm a 32 true waist and 12" thighs are perfect for me, probably what you guys would consider a regular (not too slim) fit.
Remember, the measurements posted are post-wash and dry. That means, the jeans have shrunk down to that size. Therefore, in their raw state, the jeans should be roomier all around. And those measurements don't account for stretch either.

Anyone know if the denim on these jeans stretches a lot? I think that would answer a whole bunch of questions.

I used to powerlift at amateur level. My thighs were about 29in mid-thigh with a 36 waist. Now since I've stopped (5 years ago), I'm 24in mid-thigh with a 33-34in waist. I don't bodybuild anymore, and the only leg exercises I do is a 2 mile run 3 times a week (just to keep my weight stable, otherwise I'll have to sell my collection of jeans). I still have trouble finding jeans to fit my thighs properly. BiG tends to take their thigh measurements from the groin. SE takes them 1 inch down. That inch makes a big difference (and I've ordered jeans from both). And I always hot soak raw jeans. I just have to. Don't wear raw, don't like the feeling. (I don't like distressed either) Have to shrink and get all the starch out. My PBJ XX-007 one wash W33 have the same measurements as the W34 660, but the waist is 2.5 in too big. And my PBJ's the thighs were skintight. I had the same problem with the sexihos. Legs too tight on a 34, waist too large on a 36. (ended up getting the 36 and I wear a belt). From what I've read, Warehouse doesn't tend to stretch much, but then the 1000XX is a more regular fit than the 660 so it might have had to stretch under normal conditions. Still deciding. Most likely going to go with a 34, but we'll see...

**Apocalpse later = I consider regular fit to be a 13in leg. Skin tight would be 12.5 (BiG) or 12.2 (SE).

  12. don't let these little girl jeans wearing kids bring you down on your fit. Those look great. Could you fit into a smaller pair? probably... but would they look better? i doubt it. Those are nice and slim all the way down and not tight...perfect fit in my opinion

Imo, you have to have them "little girl jeans" tight for Samurai when you first wear them, so that you get a good fit afterward. I've only been wearing these for just over a month (and I've been alternating with my PBJ, so not too much wear) and they've stretched a lot. Comparison photos.

For reference, I'm 5'9" and these are size 33 (size down one from true). Then I was 178lbs. Now I'm 182lbs.

***Man, they look really blue. One hot soak and one wash. Same camera... I never realised...***

  13. Just an update on my 55s. Did a hot wash and then stuck it in an industrial dryer for 20min (it's almost hypnotic how it tumbles around like that). Indigo bleed wasn't too bad. The inside pockets were stained blue a little, and it's a bit bluer overall. The fit feels completely different though. Lost 2 inches in the cuff (fits perfect now), about an inch in the waist and like 2 inches in the seat. Had to struggle a little to button it on at first (it's a 34 btw), but by the end of the day it stretched out to just a little tighter than the raw state, and it should loosen up to what it was before in a few days. The major change was the seat. It doesn't look huge anymore. It's still loose, but I didn't buy these thinking that they were slimfits.

This post was back in late February. Since then, I've washed my SC41955s three times. First time hand wash, and then second and third times in the washing machine with normal detergent. (I'm lazy, sue me). The denim has gotten a lot softer and drapes better on my body. They've continued to shrink every time I've washed them, though not as much as the first time. I've also gained about 10lbs since I bought them as well, which sort of helps with the filling out. I've finally gotten around to taking some pics. Still with a crappy phone camera.

    For reference, I'm 5'9" 182lbs and this is a W34.

  14. 13 in thighs is skin-tight on me, but I need a 33-34 waist. Impossible with this model. I would need a 36 in this model, but that's a 38 waist.

I'm in the same boat as meader. My PBJ's are skin tight at 12.5 thigh. I could buy a 34, but then the waist would be 2 in too big... Decisions... Get back to me in 11 days. :(

  15. no mine are F***** still in customs. I HATE CUSTOMS. so maybe tomorrow.

But which ones did you get ? the SC40200 ? If so please support my waiting with some nice pics.

Checked the tracking. they just left Tokyo Metro, so as of now, they are still somewhere over the Pacific. Lucky customs is fairly quick in Aus. I've ordered jeans from overseas previous and usually the turnaround time in Aus customs for non-food items is less than 2 hours. I'm thinking no more than 2 days which means either Wednesday or Thursday.

Yeah, got the SC40200. Man, natural indigo for the same price as SC40301 Okinawas? How could you not cop? Will post pics as soon as they arrive.

  16. you just never see it because nobody treats them like premium dry denim.

I don't treat my premium dry denim like premium dried denim. I chuck my Sugarcanes in the wash and use a normal detergent. The longer I've been wearing jeans, the more I've begun to see that:

    1) Handwashing take time, doesn't completely get your jeans clean and I'm getting sick of the smell of vegetable soap.

    2) The more expensive, better quality dyed denims will not get ruined by chucking them in the washing machine like some poorer quality denims. Just take a look at Gordon's pair of S5000VX on the BiG site where he just washed them normally every 3 weeks with normal detergent.

    3) I just don't give a shit anymore.

And I always, without fail, hot soak my jeans to get the starch out, and to shrink them up completely. Especially with my STFs. Because I've seen honeycombs shrink up the back of a person's leg and it didn't look pretty.

  17. I live in New Zealand and i am hesitant about buying from the USA as i heard that they measure differently from us.I am very keen to buy a pair of Levis 501s in BLACK and wonder if anyone would know where i can buy with confidence. They have to be made in the USA and i am a 36"waistline.They retail here at nz$160.00 but are made in Vietnam or Pakistan. Please help me before i top myself!!!

I don't know if Levis makes anything in the US anymore. My STFs were made in Colombia. There are always Levi's sold on ebay that you can get for cheap sometimes. In my experience, Levis shrink from tag size, so a W36 will shrink to a 34. My W34 shrank to a 33, but then stretched back out, though it took a while.

  18. APC New Standards

    or

    Iron Heart 634S Straight Selvage

    or

Kicking Mule Workshop LE 1950 in AWA

I want some normal type of fit between these three.

HUGE price range difference between these. APC = 140, IH = 290, KMW AWA = 600. All different denim types as well. APC is 13oz (?), IH is smooth 21oz, and AWA is super streaky 17 (or 19)oz. If you want normal type (regular) fit on any of these, I think IH is the way to go, with the 1950 a close second. APC NS is tapered and most people size down 2 or 3 to get the slim look and to account for stretch. I have never seen a pair of NS look good on someone true to waist size.

  19. Man 2 or 3 days before i get my sugarcane

Bobbejaan, has your jeans arrived yet? Ordered mine about 4 days ago and they've just been shipped today. Got the EMS tracking number from my proxy. Cheers for the link to the jeans (from mynudies).

  20. I'm proud of myself. I just talked a good friend into raw denim by letting him try on my sammies, and now he's joining sufu and joining in on the contest. chalk one more (i think that makes 2) up for nashville.

Man, where are my fellow aussies in all this?

  21. seems that more important than knowing when pre-orders start is when they will end.

when is the latest i can pay monies?

This is more relevant to me too, since I've just heard that I'm going to have less days at work. You'll be seeing me drop in at the last possible second.

I'm still trying to decide between W33 and W34. It is a one-wash, though. Does anyone think that the thighs will stretch from 12.25 to the original raw measurement over time?
