  1. That's the dumbest thing I've ever read.

They would be using bows and crossbows.

Not so fast, if you check the first incidence on the list of deadly US campus shootings, you'll see that tomahawks were indeed the preferred killing device absent guns.

clearly the only solution to end school violence is to close down all schools forever and to give everyone a gun ala Basil Marceaux

  2. yeah i don't know if a collaborative song is something that'd work too well, I can hardly get my laptop and desktop to work harmoniously and they're connected to the same filesystem and running the same version of ableton lol.

I say you post up an acapella track for us to work with, it'd be fun to hear variations on a theme from everyone in here.

  3. fuck, gonna miss melo and chauncey. they were pretty much the only two players I really loved watching. I honestly can't stand k.mart, j.r., and fucking despise "birdman". are they the new face of this team? despicable.

  4. thank you all for your 9th wonder contributions, and no hate on your taste in music, but I have gained perspective on why I do not like him. as a hip hop producer myself, I do not sample. mostly because i enjoy actually crafting the sounds i work with myself, but also because there are dudes out there who can chop shit up like no other, and i lack the audacity to attempt what has already been done so impeccably by many others. unfortunately, 9th wonder is not one of these cats, and my ears only hear a du who knows a great deal about his DAW and hardware, but lacks the soul of any great producer.

andosj gets rep tho due to avatar+location+track synergy

  5. I was going to say he is one of the few producers whose beats I consistently like, along with Premier and Dilla (although he is obviously not in the same league).

Different strokes for different blokes I guess ;P

Yeah, definitely not trying to criticize anyone's taste, but could you humor my curiosity and post a couple 9th beats you really like?

  6. I cannot think of a single beat I've heard from him that I was remotely compelled by, and yet people still mention him for some reason. Please, feel free to prove otherwise by posting an excellent trak that 9th produced.

  7. I really can't stand 9th wonder, I don't understand why anybody likes him or respects him.

And I'm sure Fruity Loops has plenty of functionality the more you dig for it, but if you're going to spend all that time learning a DAW, why not use a much better one that is an industry standard?

  8. gotta put on for the lex luger + OJ one-two punch because that shit never fails to make me laugh.

lex luger's only appeal is that it legitimately sounds like it was made in the ghetto on fruity loops.

aright, not sure how many of you caught the Paper Route Gangstaz tape that came out a couple years back, but this shit is dope. BAMA

  9. I agree with you that it doesn't seem to add up entirely from our experiential view, but it's more of what we can't prove about consciousness that lends validity to epiphenomenalism.

Some would say that decision making (or mental events to keep with the vernacular) is an epiphenomenon itself, and that it's really split-second physical reactions within our brain that lend to a sort of grand illusion of consciousness and belief in mental events that guide our physical response. This would take mental events out of the equation essentially, and reduce life for some to a linear experience dictated only by physical events -- sort of like an ant, or sheep (or zombie!).

I don't necessarily believe all humans operate like this, but it would sure explain a lot about how people behave if some, or many did.

I feel like there is so much more I need to go into in order to properly explain what I'm getting at, but alas, a joint beckons.

  10. destructo: if i had to choose a point of his career where he was at his best i would choose the slum village album which was in and around when he worked with pharyde and followed by him and ?uestlove doing two common albums. he also dabbled in dangelos second album right around then. he, and a few other people at this point basically crafted an entire sub genre or rap and rnb that was pretty much unlike anything else at the time and it wasnt for backpackers like his later output. the albums he was working on were comercially viable music that actually pushed pop music in a very amazing directions for a little while. everythign he put out after that is still pretty interesting hip hop musics. but during that point he was actually on the cusp of creating something unique that had an impact beyond underground hip hop heads.

word, thanks for the clarification. i agree with you, and i guess i am just a backpacker in self denial because I'll always prefer the beat-tape dilla to anything he made that was more commercially viable.

this isn't strictly hip hop, but speaking of niche neo-soul/rnb-hop that owes dilla forever, Foreign Exchange is pretty awesome.

ya'll should go pick up the latest dilla release "Mochilla Presents: Suite for Ma Dukes" it's mostly worth it for the DVD which has the whole orchestral performance, here's a clip:

  11. before you heard about him

ha, not sure that really matters at all, right?

if there was a point in his career where he really fell off (which there isn't), wouldn't it be easily recognizable by anyone, even if they "weren't around when he was at his prime"?

I'm just curious at what point Dilla's career headed downhill according to NESK, because I honestly can't tell -- no posthumous necro dickriding.
