  1. What is "Hornet's Nest" on...if Open Mouth Kiss is their 4th album...yeah I likey. Wouldn't say I prefer it over the first two LP's...but I really really really like "Hornet's Nest"... like really really.

And you're just a hardcore junkie maaaan...a frickin' junkie.

  2. and i know i'll probably get crucified for this, but 90% of nyhc does nothign for me

i don't like the cro mags (but i loved jjs book haha), i don't like crown of thornz, madball, leeway... none of it does anything for me

i understand and respect the significance and im sure at the time it was amazing but i have no interest in seeing any of them play a reunion or even listening to their music

I hear you...and almost 100% agree...but I can't hate on Leeway nor the Cro Mags.

Leeway: They weren't nearly as DUMB (as in intellectually challenged and caught up in silly ass subcultural politics based on segregating through "crew unity") as the cats they usually played with. I dunno...maybe it's cause they were one of the first bands I got put onto...maybe it's cause I hear a little later-era Bad Brains in their sound...maybe it's cause Eddie is closer to a scrawny, hyper kid (even at 40) than some inkfreak jock monster...but they are one of the only breakdown heavy, yo yo yo, nyhc bands that I can stomach...even thoroughly enjoy the rap'ier "Kingpin" and "Catholic Girls" to sing along everytime.

Not into Harley's character at all...but the demo and AOQ is ill.

Never was a fan of Agnostic Front...but Vinny Stigma is a dude I'd like to drink and shoot the shit with.

SOIA, Crown Of Thornz, 25 Ta Life, Skarhead, VOD, and all that type shit...keep that.

    Absolution, please.

  3. Any of you superfriends or superstalkers or whatever interested...ya mans heBAY is turnin' a year wiser...and I'll also be spinnin' some nastiness this Saturday:

    Deep crates thunthun.

  4. shameless promo:

yo whoever lives in NYC or near enough...ask Notesee...he was there to witness this passed saturday. Heads should check sir DJ heBAY next month...or maybe later this month... I will be spinning straight '93-'97 gems...going through this thread reminds me of what I was spinnin' a few days ago at this spot Heathers on the Lower East ('90 - '95 was the set's focus)...and oh boy...'twas a good time. HOLLER.

  5. Hahaha...I haven't been on here ina minute.

Glad you were inspired by this thread...that was my point. Coincidentally, you've named one of the only other threads I check out on here (RBW's "HF Boots").

Screwball is cool...I don't remember if I mentioned them or not...but the 12" they dropped a few years before the Y2K album with "Why (Ask Why)" and "All Screwed Up" (I think those were the names...the second joints was a hard, slow Beatnuts beat) was the shit. I liked both albums primarily for the cameos though. Loyalty had M.O.P., Mega, Trag...hmmm probably some others...and some good production...as did Y2K ("Heat Is On" was my shit).

I honestly don't know where Marley got the sample to "The Bridge 2000"...but yeah that definitely sounds like some chaotic end of the world movie score shit. Good call on that...I have that soundtrack and I'm almost down to put it on to see if you got that right. Vicious fuckin' track.

BTW...whoever is in NYC or the tri-state area...needs to come through for a live turntable tribute to all things Queens Hip Hop...happening sometime soon...PM for details.

  6. wtfffffffffff

Where's the Black Flag, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Void, Faith and Scream at?

    Right where they've always been...the late 70's-early-mid 80's.

I understand where you're coming from...when I got back into hardcore I went through a first wave purist thing for a brief moment...but then I put on the records from the rest of the decade and the following one (90's)...realizing the progression was part of the joy.

  7. this thread is getting sassy with all that 31G talk

Haha. You won't find a white belt on me.

But you're frontin' if you don't want to punch a floor or bicycle kick off a high ledge when a classic Unbroken song is heard...well, if not, I can understand... and I can understand the lack of love for Swing Kids if you're a big Clevo type/Integrity head...

But Jenny P is something I will hate you for if you don't feel em...unless you're in Spazz.

Fine, I'll go back to talking about "death crust" from Arizona... and other things inspired by a certain NJ metallic hardcore band...

    Suicide Nation? GRRRRRRRRRRR!

  8. ha, i just saw this last night, glasshouse has some pretty insane shows coming up (at least for pomona)....if i'm not too busy, I'll go. Been waiting to see swing kids for some time now.

    Jealous.

Unbroken, Swing Kids, Undertow, Jenny Piccolo(!!!!!!!), Fast Forward, AND Threadbare!?!??!?!?! Holy shit, worth a ticket to Cali IMO.

    Hello again 31G heyday-era.

  9. I've realized that some of Hav's beats, especially on the above album (or any of the "back burner" material that has hit mixtapes as well), first give me the impression to sleep on the joint and press "next"...but shit turns right around as soon as your hear P's voice on 'em...it's like they get harder and darker.

I like that about his shit. He employs the old Hip Hop theory of "the voice is the last instrument to complete the beat". Simplicity rules in this category...nothing muddy or too busy (i.e. El-P). He sticks to a simple formula for most of his production; a Hav beat is one that usually entails a repetitious sample (ala Rza) over a 2-4 bar bassline and drum loop...add vocals...done. And that has worked VERY well for them.

    Sorry...just had to say that...long-winded producer's itch.

  10. I haven't peeped the album yet. Just the joints with rappers I like. The joint with Styles is hard...the beat works really well with their back & forth deal. The shit with Ghost and Rae is nice if a little too playful beat-wise...but they kill it all tough like.

Will check the whole album ina bit...after Return of Mr. Scarface finishes...classic.

  11. EricDW...I stand corrected...

To anyone interested in Danner Mountain Light II's: get them a half size small...as they are (much like Russell's) a half size too big in my "normal" size.

I have worn mine, with Superfeet insoles, about 4 times now...they are great. I was going to go in on a pair of custom joints...but decided against the extra expense. The standard retail joints with the brown leather and green laces really do it for me. Even without a Cristy Wedge, the Kletterlift sole works really well (as it looks quite good when on one's feet).

this one aint the best but they are crazy underrated

Wow. Funny thing, I was thinking about that DIRTY album. Good call. Not the greatest, but definitely criminally slept on. I loved that first single (was even happier to hear Peedi Crakk destroy that beat on his first mixtape many moons ago).

  13. fam I knew/was saying that. I've been a fan since way before Confessions......but he obviously showed that side of him on that album...as well as the masterpiece that is SDE.

I was saying that Cam nowadays holds rank alongside Young Jeezy as far as "listening application" is concerned. He's a much better lyricist, by far...still, but the level of integrity/creativity (somewhat hate to use those words for this)...or rather, the depth of the music...has declined immensely. In other words, 99.9% of Cam's shit in the past 4-5 years has been mostly only good for loud background music to be played while in the whip, cleaning house, working out, cooking (food or crack..that's your choice), smoking, etc. Not really worth the closer look so to speak. I wouldn't enjoy Killa Season in my headphones as much as I would (even) Come Home With Me...but it sounds decent as hell over a loud system.

I actually think Jeezy has Cam beat in production quality...he's got a solid in-house, whereas Cam has been on shaky ground since the Heatmakerz burnt out on re-recycling their own hyper-compressed/crunchy drums and sped up soul vocals formula. I feel as though he should return to them since they've been off the map for a minute now...and evidently, he has (see "Cookin' Up"...also a good Heatmakerz beat). I say this because I've LOATHED the majority of production post-Diplomatic Immunity 2 since most of those no-name kids they were rockin' over were straight Fruity Loops cornballs who figured OD'ing on the mega operatic beat formula was the move. Tthey over-bit the sound that established producers like Just Blaze, Ty Fyffe, Charlemagne, Self, even the Heatmakerz (whom Ty Fyffe basically taught and put on) and Skitzo ("Get 'Em Girls", "Family Ties") created...yet did not bring anything else but a degradation in actual quality of production (technique and sound)...and eventually worked as a team with the Dips to achieve self-parody.

Damn...I didn't mean to say all of that...
