  1. So this may be a weird, "just me" thing, but lately I've been EDCing a "charity dollar." A couple weeks ago I found a $10 on the sidewalk. I always feel weird about taking and spending found money because I always just imagine the person who lost it.

Anyway, later that day I was on the Green Line in here in Chicago when 3 dudes came in and did some singing. Now normally, I don't give money to beggars nor people who "perform" for money. But these kids could sing and I thought not only could I not do what they just did, but also, "damn! that was worth a dollar."

So since then I just keep a dollar on me to give out (until I go through the $10 I found) to people who go above and beyond the usual "can I have some money?"

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Anyone else do this or am I a complete nutcase?

  2. I ordered some Red Wings GT boots last week and have been wearing them for a few days now. I love the boots, but I'm having to give them a break for today because the back part of the top of the boots is bruising my achilles tendon area above and behind my ankle. I assume the leather will stretch and soften with wear. Anyone else have this problem?

Besides your boots breaking in, the other thing that needs to happen is for your foot to get used to the boot and build up some callouses. So yeah, give your foot a rest every few days for the first month and you'll be fine.

Although, I believe I read somewhere where someone was giving instructions on applying Obernauf's to boots and they said that every now and then it doesn't hurt to put the leather protector on the inside of the boot. I've done this on the leather sole, but not to the whole inside. It actually kinda sucked because it made the sole really slippery against my socks and my feet were sliding all around. But, I don't know if applying leather protector to the inside then immediately putting them on and wearing them would help soften the leather up. Anybody know of this?

  3. this is exactly what i think when i see you guys with all your knifes and flashlights.....90% of you live in a non rural area so do you really need that shit?

I mean a fuckin flashlight? what are you walkin through the woods on the daily or something? or 3 knifes for that matter....I think most of you with or without a knife would have no clue how to use it properly if assaulted anyways let alone if it got taken away from you in an altercation.

Then we have the assorted crayola pen packs.....don't even get me started on that. Last time i checked a pen was to write, so choose a nice one, put it in your pocket or bag and carry on!!!

    RANT DONE

Actually, I would use a flashlight as my first (and probably only) form of defense. I don't know combat knife fighting and therefore wouldn't pull it out. My main goal is to get away, not stab/maim/kill anyone. It would have to be a pretty fucked up situation for me to be mentally able to use a knife on someone knowing what the outcome could be.

On that note, the knife is more utilitarian (breaking down boxes, cutting things, anything you would need a sharp edge for)

and finally, to all the people who question all this stuff, do you plan to get rid of your fire extinguisher because you don't put out kitchen fires on a daily basis?

  4. i'm about to load up snow leopard.

do i need to back up my HD first? i don't even know where my fucking external HD is. probably lost.

you probably don't *need* to, but I can't stress enough the importance of backups. I would do it. I'm glad I did before as when replacing my internal HD and upgrading if fucked up and fried my old hd while having to reformat my new one at the same time. Luckily I had a couple-week-old backup on an external hd that I was able to get most everything back up and running.

If you've got an hour or two to spare, back it up

  5. Ti mini123! How do you like it??

I feel bad seeing so many of those because 4sevens is about to release a minicr2 In ti with the same specs but in an even SMALLER package :/

yeah, I owe you rep because of your review of the Ti version where you didn't put it in as favorable a light as the aluminum version, I got the aluminum instead. So, thanks for saving me the $$.

However, that mini CR2 does look pretty sick. If it had a clicky I think it would be on my "must get", but we'll see.

  6. Will post Hopslam pics soon (yes it's worth it, yes it's awesome; and compared to bombers, more economical), but for now, here's a sampling of what's hit my gut the past month.

From my dad for christmas present. Kentucky represent!

    Weak, really for the price.

And HOLY SHIT! This is the best stout I've had pretty much ever. I hope I can get another one soon before they're gone.

  7. yeah, besides my macbook pro (around $2000), backpack ($100) and old ass phone ($450 - too much, but I bought it new w/no contract. it's been good, coming up on 4 years now) the most expensive was surprisingly the JDR Pryrahna coming in at $71. I guess cuz it was Ti.

But I've been seeing some nice headphones posted. Them shits ain't cheap.

  8. I'm not seeing enough World Tour Shirts on here as it seems the majority of them have already been sent out...Where's everybody at???

Just got mine tonight! Pics soon! Thanks so much Jimmy!!!!

is it as simple as that to get on the tour? i've wanted to hop on since I picked up on this thread a few months ago, any criteria that goes into it besides your reputation around superdenim?

We need to make it more difficult than just signing up. I say some sort of scavenger hunt or FH3k1WT Trivia Challenge or some shit. I think everybody who wants it should get the chance, but you gotta prove that shit somehow.

  9. ^^Spydeydrop is the best way to open the knife. Otherwise, due to the small size, you have to hold it between your middle and ring fingers and push with your thumb, which makes it a little bit awkward imo.

Doing the drop is much faster

See, that's why I like the benchmade mini-grip. That Axis lock is so easy to use once you get the hang of it. Seriously, this video convinced me of getting one

    9y6AKZsApqo

It takes practice though. When I tried it out this summer with my brother-in-laws griptilian, I didn't realize how quick the blade can bounce back if you're not careful to close the lock and sliced the tip of my finger.

ps-I love the crib and small child noises in the background of that video

  11. so i guess applecare is worth it huh? cuz my battery only lasts about 15 min, usually less

Unless your battery is defective, Applecare won't cover it. Mine has 388+ cyclecounts and the system profiler says "Replace battery now."

Just upgraded my hard drive last week. Plugged a new 500g into my 2.5 y/o 15" mbp. Upped it to 4g ram also. Finally made the switch from Tiger to Snow Leopard in the process. Total upgrade cost was around $210. Now I need to get a new battery and I'll be set for hopefully another year or two.

  12. regarding the $7 belgiums and unibroues, a couple weeks back Trader Joes had their 2009 Vintage ale for $5 a bomber. I seem to remember hearing a couple years ago that it was brewed for TJ's by Unibroue. I didn't like the one I had 2 years ago, but picked up 2 this time around and put them straight in the basement

  13. now my dilemma is - what should I put in my coin pocket? all my edc stuff can fit there, but not enough room for it all. I wish every pocket had coin pockets.

ps-just got a quark mini, neutral white, I like this flashlight stuff. Can a fenix pd20 fit a TAD gear tactical bezel?

  14. For shoulder bags, you could also check out 5.11 Tactical. Their Push Pack looks similar, and is only $50

I got a 5.11 Tactical "Rush 24" backpack this spring and the thing is insanely durable. It's really heavy, but it carries everything and has plenty of pockets for edc stuff. Plus, I haven't had the need to Scotchgaurd it yet because it's very water resistant. 5.11 makes great packs--good construction, good components (heavy duty ykk zippers, etc.)

    not my pic
