  1. I meant fly out to Norway (or another nearby country outside the EU) and fly back to Berlin the same day or the next day. When you arrive in Berlin they'll stamp your passport with another 90 day tourist visa.

  2. Presuming you're currently on a tourist visa right now, doing an unpaid internship? If Germany is anything like the UK, then there's no chance unless the company (Acronym) you're working at is willing to sponsor you a work visa. Alternatively, you could fly outside of the EU to a nearby European Country that isn't in the EU and reenter on another 90 day tourist visa. Norway and Switzerland spring to mind. Or... get hitched with a German chick.

  3. On the Bourdain tip, 熱炒 (fast fry) on a bus is a fun experience. I went to a handful of fast fry places with friends, despite the "novelty value" and the non-existent free refills of rice (!) the fast fry bus has, it certainly served the best seafood and kung po dishes out of the lot I tried. It's pretty out of the way situated in the Neihu district, and in terms of getting there, you'll either need to take a 45min bus ride (time it takes from the Shilin district) or the MRT plus cab.

Ding Tei Feng if you haven't done so already, the original one is in the Da'an district.

Beitou is worth an afternoon trip to spend an hour or two at one of the hotel's private hot spring rooms. The library there is also very cool and is often listed as one of the top 25 libraries in the world.

  4. I've heard differently. The majority want out of Barcelona, beaches aren't great and the city is expensive compared to other Spanish cities.

London isn't that bad, you just have to know where to go and what to do to make the most of it. While it may not be better than Berlin and the like, in my opinion it's certainly better than Paris.

  5. India and Egypt aren't in Europe  ;)

As for Greece, so much political unrest (due to the economy) and racial tensions there at the moment. Even their islands Corfu and Crete appear somewhat affected by it. If you're not caucasian I wouldn't risk it...

  6. Gondola up to Maokong is a must, have some tea while you're up there.

常夜燈 is a really good Japanese restaurant as mentioned a few posts up.

Definitely do a few night markets, I really like the cold peanut noodles and their sausage in a sausage stalls at Shilin. Oh and I personally think Two Peck is better than Hot Star...

Look forward to more food adventures when I head out there for the third time in September/October this year. Will probably stay in an apartment in Da'an district this time for a change of scenery as the past two times I've stayed near/within the Shilin district.

  7. This will probably fall on deaf ears...

I'm going in May for one week with the missus, and spending one night in Girona for a trip to El Cellar de Can Roca. It'll be our second time going there, so we've done most of the major tourist spots before.

Got a few things planned like a cable cart up the mountain to see the Montserrat Monastery, the botanical garden, maybe a trip to this http://www.airedebarcelona.com/ for one afternoon.

Looking for any other suggestions, or anything new that's popped up in the past year or so?

Also any recommendations for clubs and good jazz bars, as the missus is keen to check out the Spanish night life. We're staying in an apartment near Parc de L'Espanya Industrial so ideally looking for somewhere within walking distance. Probably wishful thinking though...

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Yup. I know the gift allowance is £36, for non-gifts it's around £15, but I'm pretty sure Parcel Force don't pay attention whether it's a gift or not. These days I make sure the package value is below £15 as well as being marked as a gift. I've had the Valdez and Minie arrive in one very large box with a value of £12, without any problems.

For the record, insurance doesn't bother me, EMS is tracked at every point and in the past 10+ years of importing from the USA and Japan, not one parcel has ever gone missing. *touch wood*

  9. Best to go to Mustafa's during off peak times, like mid afternoon. We went around 5pm, the queue was about 10 people deep and had to wait about 15 minutes. We left around 5:45pm after having eaten and by then the queue was getting big. The best kebab I've ever had, but I don't think I'd queue or wait any longer than half an hour for one!

  10. I went balls deep this season with outerwear:

I am tempted by the new Deckhand, but trying to justify owning 15 jackets all by the same label to the missus may prove a little tricky.

    Purchased just the one accessory:

I prefer my Fair Isle knit one from a 4 years ago, feels a lot more substantial and warmer than the ones they're churning out these days.

That's me pretty much done for this season, roll on S/S '14.

  11. F/W versions have buttons for you to insert an insulator. Wouldn't make much sense for the S/S versions to have them.

Same size for outer and insulator for me. I have a size one in the pizi insulator vest and a size one in the oglala, fits perfect. Previously had a size small pollard to fit inside my small F/W bickle and townsend. Be warned though, the really old townsends have slightly different button layouts than the newer ones i.e. the distances between buttons. I think the change happened between F/W '06-'07 and F/W '07-'08.
