  1. Just gave my Skulls a first wash after a good 7-8 months of moderate wear (3-4 times a week). These jeans are TOUGH to fade, and the denim is pretty fantastic. Not much in the way of high contrast fades, although the jeans got overall a lot lighter which I liked.

Nice one nemoulette. Those are the 'customized' 5507?

  2. Just fro those who did'nt notice...Samurai changed the sizes...they are about 1 inch smaller than they used to be - all Jeans produced past the begining of this year...

So THAT is why they didn't have those "details" on their web page for some time.

  3. Thank God I only sized down one (usually buy W34 in slimfits). From reading this post, I was thinking I didn't size down enough. At least I could button it up all the way the first time. It's hellishly tight on my rear and upper legs and that's pre-soak. I'm doubting that these would be wearable from the crotch down if I give them a hot soak like I was planning to. Maybe I should wear them raw for a little bit first. These 19ozers aren't anything like the 21oz IH denim. It feels rock hard and rough, like chainmail that's been left out to rust. Hopefully it'll loosen up over time.

I did put them in washing machine without detergent, long program, 60C (140F). Took away most of the starch so they softened quite a bit. Had really hard time buttoning them for the first time, had to use the good old pencil trick to those button holes. Don't worry they will stretch and soften in no time. :)

  4. Ok, Samurai is traditional cut -good. Whats the weight? I think that 15oz (or lighter) is ideal for around the year usage and for those that live in Summerland... I'm still saying that it would be very special from Samurai to produce jeans from 14-15oz (super durable of course) denim... ;)

  5. Good to see somebody started involving another brand...

    Just a quick update..

I have 32 people down for another Samurai project - maybe it would be good to know how many sufus want to go 4 SC..

Counting would be like a poll - and by the end of May we'd have a result.

More info regarding Samurai are to follow ...Don't want to say just yet - have to be sure what's the deal and the jeans and so on..

And for all thosewho are worried - the contest would start December 1st.

Quick reminder - who's up for Sam - please send pm

    SUBJECT SAMURAI VOLUME II ...

Has there been any talk about whats the cut like? I'm up to the competition with Samurai but I wouldn't want anything low rise or heavy denim. Actually, 14-15oz would be perfect. 14.5oz Samurais would be something different -from Samurai.

  6. haha, you basically mentioned my every flaw. Thanks for the advice though :)

I'm getting them hemmed to 32. I had no idea how long they were..37.5 that's long if you ask me.

Don't get them hemmed. Just eat oat-porridge and pump some iron. At sweeet 16 you will be a man enough to fill your Skulls! :)

  7. Since he's probably confused out of his mind this is what I would recommend him do:

    1. Find out what his true waist size is where he is going to actually wear the jeans (this is probably below normal waist due to the low rise of the jeans.

    2. Use Shinichi's measurement chart to find the size that corresponds to this waist size after the one-wash, and choose a smaller size to account for stretch.

    3. ...That's it, I guess.

What is the true waist size then? If I measure myself from where I keep my jeans (I sag them a little bit) it's 32". I always wear size 29 or 30 and I don't "size down 2". Or do I? I would measure from where the jeans normally are worn (just below navel) and that's more like it (I'm 30" says my tape measure), so my true size is 30?

  8. Hey felix;) I thought that indigio dilutes into water when you soak it-kinda reversing the chemical reaction though? Thought I read that somewhere....appologies all if I was talking shit though:D

I would bet my money (not all of it... well, all of it at the moment) that the yellowish color doesn't come from the starch. I just soaked my jeans that have already machine washed twice and the water turned yellow. I don't remember me pissing my pants either...

  9. I think they use 100% cotton because they belive it is better quality, quality and durability arent always the same thing...

Shinichi already answered this question a few pages back. They use cotton thread because they and their customers like that vintage look it gives. As the denim fades, so does the thread also.

It's easy to fix those spots with polycotton thread by yourselves.

  10. Here are some comparison shots of John Bull denim:

The shots were taken in direct sunlight, so they appear lighter in color. Selvage shot is closest to the real color which is quite dark.

These are worn a little bit already

Someone in BiG should make some empiric comparisions beetween these two... :)

  11. The denim is really not streaky. There are a few irregularities in the dyeing, but nothing extreme and they appear rather plain right now. What I like the most about these jeans is how the color looks like it's ready to fall right away. I don't know how to describe it, but there is something very exciting about handling the denim and looking at it right now. Plus, without being slubby at all, the irregularities will also most likely produce a strong vertical fading.

So yeah, I love them, I'm quite impatient about wearing them.

That looks like exactly the same denim as on John Bull SC-002. The selvage line is the same also.

  12. I’m really sad that this was my last flight. Sigh.

LeicaLad, I'm gonna miss your landscape shots.

I've been wanting to buy Red Wing boots for sometime but am afraid to do so because of the sizing issues as well. They run .5 or whole size bigger as I know...
