  1. The drop bars he's talking about are called clubman bars. 7/8s is what you'd be using on a Honda. There is this guy in Southern California that gets 70s Japanese bikes on craigslist, does a mild cafe job on them and hawks 'em for way more.

  2. can anyone offer any tips on buying older bikes? looking at some bonnevilles and some sportsers. years range from 75-90.

Sporties from those years should be pretty cheap. I think the last year of Ironheads is either 83 or 84. From there they changed to the Evo style sportster (and big twin) so it all depends on what look you want.

You could Ironheads for less than $2000 if your scour craigslist. Just know you'll need to get some tools to work on the bike. It also depends on if you plan on chopping it or riding as is.

There are a lot of things to think about before jumping into. Figure out what you want to do in the long run and that should help you make your initial decision.

I can't speak to Triumph's since I don't have experience with British iron.

Sign up on the jockey journal forum and search through the threads there. You should get a lot of helpful information from it.

  3. Also, DP...yet again, I find fault with something you are claiming....you said it was cool about a year ago, and its definitely been two years. Time flies when you are fighting with dudes on the internet about the value of rubber boot soles.

I don't fight, I just point out how trendy it is to have Cats Paws soles on boots. No one can deny the fact that when Bill shed light on those tasty morsels, everyone gobbled them up one spoon full at a time.

I'll admit, I got a pair of Semi Dress because they were the new hot shoe. I regret it now because they cost way too much and I lost money when I sold them. Damn you trend setters!!

  4. I don't see what the fuss is about Cat's Paws, Coleslaw that maroonish color is beautiful.

I just clown around with people who mention wanting to use Cats Paws. They were the kewl heels to use about abyear ago and then didn't last very long because most of the heels are old.

Coleslaw, seeing your Indys makes me not want to sell mine. Just wish I had a pair of jeans they looked good with.

  5. What's the width of your rim?

I have 2.15" rims front and back. The front has a 3" tire on it and the back has a 4 1/2" tire on it.

If you're back rim was 3" across, you could put a big fat 5" tire on there.

What it all comes down to is your rim size.
