  1. according to denimjunkies.com, it's pronounced "heegay." i'm pretty sure it can apply to any fabric fading along creases, though indigo-dyed denim manifests it most clearly.

    that's all i got.

  2. ^^agreed.

for those of us in the, uh, damper climes, hanging clothes up outside in the sun isn't an option in the winter. inside-out jeans + a little febreze, or a dryer sheet + medium heat on the dryer is a perfectly serviceable solution.

  3. no disrespect to anyone's who's dropped some serious cash on a rock for their wife/fiancee, but i've always been kinda anti-diamond... especially due to the quasi-monopoly debeers has on the market, and the seriously fucked-up labor practices of the diamond mines. this is a great read if you have the time:

that said, if you've got an heirloom ring from your grandma or whatnot, that's classy...

for a wedding band, i've always liked this one:

the half-moon interior and the flat exterior are the opposite of most bands, and i think the inversion is boss. not to mention it looks just like the ring i made for my highschool girlfriend out of a nickel...

  4. soak them in cold water, then get a friend to help you stretch them while they're still damp -- one of you takes the waist, one takes the legs; pull.

alternately, put them on damp and step on the hem at the heel and stretch 'em.

the barbell/hanging thing might work, too.

  5. <bump>

since i've learned so much from this thread, i have to share this with you guys...

i just ordered a pr of 32w raw dukes and one of the purple shirts (w/ the crown and the doves).

    fresh info from info:

*mail order to the US will cease after current old stock is depleted. even-sized raw indigo dukes w/ yellow stitching still available. i did not ask about kings or washed, sorry.

*raw, black selvage is dropping exclusively in n. america soon. info's not sure where yet, but i'd assume nomad will get some, since they seem to be the only current NA stockist.

*indigo stitched models supposed to drop later this year, but no definitive dates yet.

*the t-shirts on the site are still available, though only 60 of each color were made.

*price for raw dukes shipped to US has bumped to $220AUD standard / $250AUD express due to problems with the previous courier. type "XXXAUD in USD" into google for the current exchange rate. this is still one hell of a deal as far as i'm concerned.

    that's it.

as others have noted in this thread, if you want info to respond to you, you need to be patient, write short emails and not ask a zillion questions. good luck everyone!

  6. hi luca,

if you have a webserver of your own, upload the picture to that, then click the insert img button on the posting screen and add the url in between the tags.

if you don't have your own webserver, get an account at a free image hosting site like photobucket, then follow the same instructions.

  7. the stitching at the hem certainly pulls the denim and might introduce a very slight bunching or twisting, but the real crumple comes from the denim twisting (in opposite directions, since the hem is turned on itself) when it shrinks and pulls agains the stitching, post-wash.

cant_sleep - do you have a picture of a new, raw hem that's crumpled? if the jeans are a one wash, or if they've been soaked, or even if you've stepped in some puddles, etc., some twisting will occur. i'm looking at them hem of my raw nudies (a few weeks old, never soaked, maybe a few puddles since i'm in portland) and there's really no discernible twist...

  8. $50 sounds expensive for the standard 501XX STF - they're on sale all the time here in portland for about $30-40. still, $50 isn't exactly going to break the bank.

do a search and you'll find photos of people gettting pretty great results with them - the problem is that the denim is not very high quality, and they lose a LOT of indigo with each wash. my advice is soak them to fit, wear them heavily for three to six months, machine wash them once to get some contrast, and then dry clean only from there on out... you'll definitely get your money's worth out of them.

I got a pair of the RRL selvage slimcut. The selvage line is green and the jeans are kinda grey really. Tight tight below the knee and alittle too loose in the thighs. Real japanese looking cut. Selvage watch pocket, hidden rivits. The cut I'm getting used to still. The quality is absolutely some of the best I have ever seen. These things are built like a tank. They came pretty heavily starched but I think it is at least 14oz denim. I think I am going to like them when they wear in a bit and stretch out in the calf alittle bit. I am still on my first 551zxx project (3mts hard wear so far) and then I need to start my new sugar canes so it might be next winter before I get to start on them (rrl).

agree 100%. have the slim cut, too, and can just barely fit them over my frye boots. mine are a deep indigo, though, i think one-wash, with a light blue selvage. just beautiful denim though - very slubby and thick... sizing is a little wack (i'm a natural 33 or 34 waist, and i'm in 27s...), but they're the best bargain in denim i've picked up (ebayed for $45)...
  10. "I've heard it has happened..."

    hmm.

sounds like one of those, 'well, i have this friend, and, um, one time he [insert embarrassing situation that actually happened to you]' type stories... i hope the clean-up wasn't too awful, buddy.

underwear or not, i haven't shit my pants since i was about six years old - i don't think this is a major issue for most of us.

  11. eh, i'd say that was kind of assy. but that's just me.

the item description was pretty confusing, and if you're not familiar with the differences between the two ranges, i can see how you'd be confused, blackgrass.

also, you can still fight your way to some good wear marks -- there's a lot of indigo left in those jeans to wear off.

use the search button to find a lot of info on starching, but briefly: go buy a can of niagra heavy spray starch, hang your jeans up in the bathroom and spray the lap, the back of the knees, and cuffs (if they're too long for you and you want them to bunch up) until they're saturated, then go sit down until they're mostly dry.

after that, go take a walk, sleep in them, skate in them, whatever, but just wear the hell out of em.
