  1. the pool is pretty small (compare to pools in North America), but since Tokyo must have like 6 pools or something, after a while here you get excited over not much...

seriously, unless there a special events that requires it, Ageha doesn't have have a dress code, most peoples just wear normal street/casual wear. but like i said before, most nights at Ageha a special nights (they just rent the club) so it really varies from evening to evening. i've been there on completely different evening where the vibe was really different. i've been to good hip-hop events like dj krush or Stussy party where it was definetely more of a streetwear kind of vibe, but i've also been to some music industry kind of networking\album release where peoples were older, more smartly dress.

as for peoples jumping in the pool, so far, i've only seen drunk peoples get in there, but there's always some girls dancing in their bikini tops or something. i haven't been there like when it was real summer so there might be more peoples swimming. the only thing is like i said before, the pool is pretty small so it's there more for the mood\atmosphere than to swim properly.

  3. check out this airline

    http://www.flyzoom.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=pubDsp.dspHome

it's a low fare flying from canada to europe (don't know where you are so it might not be helpfull). it's really cheap, a summer flight might cost you as little as 500$ (i wouldn't count on it now cause it's quite late and many flights are sold out, but i'll be much cheaper than with a regular airline).

you can also try priceline, sometimes you can find pretty good bargain.

are most french people willing to speak english with you??

--- Original message by smallkuku on May 30, 2006 06:08 AM

like others said, not really. first of all, a lot of french don't even speak english so even if they wanted, they can't speak the language. ppl always ask you for cigarettes in the streets (it's really annoying) and i always reply to them in english as if i don't know french (which i do, i'm french canadian). you'd be surprised that the majority of these people can't even ask for a cigarettes in english (which is like first grade english). the vast majority of companies don't have english language services so doing normal things might be very difficult (opening a bank account, getting a cell phone etc). another thing is that american/english are not the french favorites so if you open a conversation in english , they immediately think of you as an ugly tourist. but like other said, trying a bit of french goes a long way. and don't expect to find any english information anywhere apart from the tourist office. but Paris is a really nice city and learning french is not impossible so if you spend so time on it, you should be fine.

where to find the Burton Dj Bag for a good price?

anyone of you that own it have any pic of you guys using it?

    thanks

--- Original message by tm on May 31, 2006 01:36 AM

check online, i googled real quick and found some site carrying it. however, they didn't carry the nicest color. just check a bit more, i'm sure you can find. you can also go to your local skate/snowboard shop, they might be sold out (i had trouble finding mine back in november) but you never know. like i said before, for the price that bag is sold, i don't think you can find a better deal.
  6. i have a lot of friends there so i went there a couple time. i have to admit that i've never really shopped, but i don't think you could find so much stuff there. try Rue Ste-Catherine (it's the big pedestrian street where all the shops are) but you won't find any gems there. apart for surfwear, there isn't much. as for food, well you'll be in France so there's no way you can't be satisfied. try the old part of town for really nice restaurant. for drinks, go to Les Quais or La Victoire, it's where all the bars and clubs are. if you have to chance, you should visit Archachon, it's this little town next to the ocean that has a huge sand dune (it sounds boring like this, but it's really impressive, i would advise to visit there if you have a chance)

  7. i can direct you to good clubs in Tokyo but i need to know a bit more what kind of club do you want to go to. Most clubs play some variant of Techno (trance is pretty popular here) and there's also quite a few hip-hop club (most of them suck though) not to mention the crappy Top 40 places. a think that is quite peculiar to Tokyo is that many clubs have special events almost any nights so if you don't check the schedule, you might end up to an event you have no interesting in. My personal favorite include Air and Unit in Dainkanyama (Air usually have great Hip-Hop nights, saw Dj Shadow, Madlib and Peanut Butter Wolf there this year and Unit have great D & B nights), Ageha at Shin-Kiba especially in the summer cause of the outdoor area with pool, food etc (they had a dope event last friday, Plaid, Luke Vibert and LFO, i'm pretty pissed i slept on it). Clubs are usually pretty expensive (think 25-30$ cover charge as an average) so spending 100 bucks a night is what i would consider average. another advice is DON'T GO TO ROPPONGI, everything sucks there.

^^ i thnk your talking about off the hook. thats a good shop, the guy that works there is super chillin.

yeah exactly, that's the place, thanks.
  9. Empire usually have a big selection of WESC and i quite like them and the fit is really nice (there's some also in the shop under Taboo records on Ste-Cat, forgot the name of the place, they usually have some nice gear). otherwise, i have a really classic Polo crew sweat and i really like it. you can of course also try american apparel.

  10. both cities are quite nice but very different at the same time. like someone mentioned, Toronto is just like any other big North American city (probably one of the nicest one though) while Montreal definetely have a european flavor. Montreal is the festival city and during the summer, there's always one going on and the atmostphere is quite nice. The jazz festival is probably the best IMO and it's at the end of june, beggining of july. Montreal is retarded when it comes to good shopping, for a city this size, there is really nothing good. and it'a the north american capital of euro-thrash so be prepare to see tons of Diesel, Energie etc. TO on the other hand have some really nice spot, good city for shopping. problem is with the value of the canadian dollar right now, everything will be much more expensive than in the states so i'm not sure you should base your trip around shopping. TO also got very nice museums, much nicer than montreal.

Now when it comes to food, i believe Montreal got the upper hand although TO got it's fair share of good restaurant. about nightlife though, i would say Montreal is much much better than Toronto. The MTL nightlife is one of the best in North America and have one of the biggest concentration of bars and club.

  11. there are very few skakeboard only store in japan. most store are "action sports" shop that carry everything from skating to snowboard and surfing. surprisingly, the selection is usually as good as what you would find at your local core shop. nothing like Pacsun or shit like that. there's this Chain called Murasaki Sports that's pretty dope, it's all over japan and it's one of the only "official" sb retailer (so you can get SB at retail price, not resale). there's one in in Harajuku on Takeshita Dori, one in Shibuya and one in Kanda. there's this store in Shibuya right by the Apple store called Hawk that i quite like. other than that, go around Kanda station, there's like a millions outdoor store and quite a few snowboard/skateboard stores, some of them really dope. also, all sneaker store carry skate shoes like DC, Es, Vans Lakai etc. exept to pay a big premium on most products exept shoes and it's worse on hardware. if you want to find more core shop you'll have to leave to city center where you might find more in the suburbs. if you want to find more shop, go to a brand you like website and check the retailler finder, they usually have it in english. then make a list of the shop you want to visit and go. you might want to make sure you have a tokyo map and you understand how japanese address work though before you set out if you don't want to end up lost.

  12. just posted this in the what are you wearing today thread, guess i'll just put it here again

This one is called Cool Trans, similar to Smart (for no apparent reason, that's usually the one i buy).

if you fell like suscribing, get a copy first to see if you feel it's worth it, it's not a cheap magazine to start with and the mark up is pretty steep. but like england said, if you're into streetwear, these mags are like the bible...

    found cheaper price

    [url= http://www.japancentre.com/?cmd=itm&cid=56&id=303]'>http://www.japancentre.com/?cmd=itm&cid=56&id=303] http://www.japancentre.com/?cmd=itm&cid=56&id=303

in terms of fashion, whatever you're into, the japanese mags are the shit. the sneaker mags are insane and there's also this mag that i forgot the name that in terms of denim porn is pretty much the best you can get. and there's also a millions high end fashion mags. you don't really need to read japanese to enjoy the mags and anyway, it's really easy to read if you know a bit of japanese (i can read most of it usually). if you live on the west coast or in New York (or any other city that have a significant japanese population) go to a japanese book store like Kinokuniya and they should have it for cheaper

yeah gotta agree. Sometimes Hap has the Han Solo thing going on pretty good (like today) but others (like the unzipped days) its just kinda wrong with the level of the other stuff hes wearing.

--- Original message by MilSpex on May 14, 2006 03:43 AM

funny cause Han Solo is the first thing that came to mind when i saw the boots. anyway, as you don't see many dude rocking these kind of boots, i think it's pretty fresh.
  15. hotel in Montreal are mad cheap compare to same sized cities in North America. there's a couple of really nice boutique hotel in old montreal or downtown, but they may be a bit expensive. however, you can get a room at like the sheraton,Delta or 4 seasons for probably about 100-150$ per night if you're lucky.just check expedia or travelocity, you should be able to make a good deal. just make sure you hotel is either downtown or in old montreal.

as far as shopping is concerned, Montreal is not that dope, but you should check out St-Laurent street between Sherbrooke and Mont-Royal and also Ste-Catherine Street. there's also some nice boutique on Mont-Royal street and tons of Thrift shop. also check out Hold Renfrew on Sherbrooke . tell me more about what kind of clothes you're looking for and i'll give you more advice about which shop to visit. as far as food go, Montreal is the shit, i really miss the restaurants there. For french restaurant, the top restaurant in Montreal is called Toqué!, is a bit expensive but so fucking good. advance reservation will be necessery. i would really recomand that place for your lady. otherwise, you can check out this site, it's a list of montreal restaurants

    http://www.restomontreal.ca/

the best areas for restaurants are Duluth Street, St-Denis Street and old Montreal. Duluth street is famous for it's "bring your own wine" restaurant. basically, you're allowed to bring your own wine so it bring down the price of your dinner a lot. St-Denis street has tons of nice bistrot and terrace and very good restaurants.

for drinking, one of my favorite place is called Laika[url=" http://www.laikamontreal.com/"] <a href="http://www.laikamontreal.com/" target="_blank">http://www.laikamontreal.com/</a>

it's a cafe that become a lounge at night. they have their own Electronic music label and aways have top djs playing, but there's no dance floor and the atmosphere is pretty relax. there's also the bar at the W hotel that's quite cool. there's also really good terrace like St-Sulpice on st-denis street and le café des éclusiers in old montreal. st-laurent street is the best place to find nice drinking spot, with st-denis street and old montreal having so pretty nice places also. last year, i went out a lot to Times Supper Club, but it's more like a club so i don't know if you're so interrested. and DO NOT GO TO CRESCENT STREET, IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!.

anyway, if you need more detailed info, don't hesitate to ask and enjoy Montreal, it's a really nice city, i miss it much now that i'm living in Tokyo (Tokyo is better but still, always a good feeling for my hometown...)

i got mine in ginza during a recent business trip. the 45rpm is store is right in front of SONY. It's housed in a building called Mosaic. You could ask people from Tokyo to buy you one and get charged for the service. Mine cost to an equivalent of $210.

the fit is nicer than i thought. some people here say that it's too high rise but it's not at all.

like someone said before, you can either use celga or bid-service or ask xcoldricex. i'm also living in Tokyo so i wouldn't mind helping you out.
  17. if you're not european, you should consider a temporary transit. basically, it a fancy way to say to lease a car. the deal is you get a new car and the rates are quite cheap. 2 summers ago, i spent like 3 months driving through europe with some friends and that's what we did and it was way cheaper than a regular rental, not to mention that there's no limit on mileage and insurance are included and there's no deductable.

you can google some more but you should find all the info you need there as well as pricing.

as far as spain go, How much do you want to drive? to you want to stay around Catalunia or cover a lot of spain? or do you want to go to France also. My favorite area in Spain are of course Barcelona, the Basque country and Madrid so i would def recommend these places. the south of Spain is reallly cool also so is the meditarean cost so it's a bit of a hard choice. overall, spain's a really cool country to visit and the parties are good pretty much everywhere you go, be prepare to do it all night though. the end of june might be really really hot in the south and in madrid also so you might want to consider that when you make your plan. or if you want, the south of france is close to barca and really nice, i'm going there next september for some friends wedding and i'm pretty looking forward to that.

  18. there's quite a lot presently at Juice...if you can handle the price tag. some stuff goes for like twice of what it sell for in Japan, and i wouldn't say that Neighborhood stuff is reasonnable here either.

--- Original message by MilSpex on Apr 29, 2006 08:59 AM

that time was in september. shadow hasn't been to Tokyo since. but that show was dope, he only palyed obscure funk but it was really good. Krush's really good also, i've seen him like 5 times and like you say, everytime is just so different, but always good.
  20. thanks for all the infos. Golden week is a week in japan where there's like 4 publics holidays so most companies will close down for the week so most ppl here get holidays. and it seems that pretty much everyone HAS to go somewhere on holiday so it's pretty crazy. the airport is packed like a rolling stone concert and the trains run at like 200% capacity.

xcoldricex, thanks for the offer, and don't hesitate to ask me about tokyo. i was told by some friends that many high-rise have bars/lounge on their top floor and i'm pretty down with the idea of having a drink while looking at hong kong skyline. i know these place must be a bit expensive but i would appreciate if someone could make a recomandation. also, if you have some other idea like restaurants/neighborhood/touristy stuff that i might not see in a tourist guide or any other things i shouldn't miss out, don't hesitate to suggest something to me.

one last thing, i was hoping i could bring my girlfriend to a cruise dinner but so far, the only cruises a found were like cheasy huge boat that didn't even have chinese food. i would like to go to something more traditional, i don't mind paying a high price so if someone has ever done something similar or has any info, it would be much appreciated.
