  1. the thing about golden week is that pretty much everyone who has an office job will get holidays and since most peoples only get public holiday (new year, golden week and obon) they usually use those time to travel. that means that price go up the roof and train and airport are insanely crowded and it can be very difficult to almost impossible to travel cheaply inside japan. cause its their only time they can get holiday, most ppl will just pay whatever to travel and price can go up like 5-fold.

if you only plan to come to tokyo, it shouldn't be a problem (shops don't close) but if you want to travel inside japan, i strongly advise against it. it'll be really hard to get train ticket and hotel and will be much much more expensive than usual. as for airfare, i just checked the site i use usually and they have ticket for 563$CDN with norhtwest and air canada is 790. here the site http://www.navitourca.com/ the site is all in japanese, but there're based in vancouver so just call if you cannot understand. they usually have the best price. back when i lived in Whistler, i bought a plane ticket to tokyo at a japanese agency downtown, but it's been 4 years and i don't really remember the name. but i know there's 2 so if you check the yellow page, you should be able to find them. price shouldn't go up to much cause it's still low season in Canada.

549$ is pretty much the cheaper you will find (i've been back and forth japan and canada quite a lot these past 4 years so i'm pretty use to shopping around for tickets). if you can, try to travel with JAL or ANA, it's a 100 times better than with any other north american company (except maybe American that is not too bad).

if you have more question, don't hesitate to ask.

just saw your tittle, again, if you plan to go to Kyoto, finding a train ticket or hotel will be pretty hard (the shinkansen usually runs at like 150% capacity during golden week). also, about hotel, i guess if you're looking at some hostel or something like that, it might be much easier than a regular hotel.

  2. saw them last saturday at the Neighborhood shop. kind of like them, the color was more black than blue, i thought was pretty nice. they sell for around 29000 yen at the shop which is a bit overprice but if you're into it. i like those better than the extreme distressed denim Neighborhood usually do. for that price, there's tons of jeans i would pick up first, but for someone who's into neighborhood, they're quite nice.

  3. some store (like the shinjuku takashimaya one for exemple) only have girls clothes. 45rpm are a bit out of my budget range so i haven't visited to many stores and cannot say for sure, maybe someone else can help about that. i found another one that was closer [url=" http://www.45rpm.jp/shop/detail.jsp?id=ginza"] <a href="http://www.45rpm.jp/shop/detail.jsp?id=ginza" target="_blank">http://www.45rpm.jp/shop/detail.jsp?id=ginza</a> you could probably walk from shiodome, like 5 to 10 min and should be bigger than the one at Tokyo Station

  4. you won't find any gems there. i don't really know the city so much, but everytime i go, i usually end up just going clubbing and eating at the restaurant cause that's the only thing to do. i know there's a skate shop in old quebec that i quite use to like, but apart from that, i can't really recommend anything. in terms of good streetwear, i'd be surprise if you could find anything. quebec's quite a small city.

just go out and get wasted instead. if you ain't 18 yet, but be sure to have some fake id, bouncers are really dicks to english speakers.

  5. best sushi in Tokyo? i have to second djrajio, Tsujikii in the early morning is awesome, nothing better than fresh sushi after a night out (it's closed on sunday though, got fucked one time)

best for cheap? any kaiten sushi is cheap (the restaurant where sushi come on a revolving belt). the one i usually go in on ometesando (100 yen for most sushi)

bad experiences? actually, yesterday, my gf sister got some sushi at the supermarket and gave me one telling me it was tuna. i didn't check and it was fucking nato (kind of rotten beans, it's really discusting). i very nearly puked.

I'll be in Tokyo this friday for work. I might just be confined to places near my hotel & office which are both in the Shiodome Site. Would anyone know a store near this place that'll carry premium denim brands? Which 45rpm store is nearest?

JDM, what you seem to be forgetting is that while you're sitting $144 down at the moment, if he refunds and never gets that letter, he's sitting $144 AND a backpack down = $288 overall. If you're not willing to trust him to refund when he gets that letter (which I see no reason why you're being so uptight about sending), why on earth should he trust you to send that letter? From the way you've been acting, I really wouldn't be surprised if you just jet as soon as you get the refund

Also, you're seriously impatient - have you ever considered that maybe at this moment in time he doesn't have those funds in his paypal? I mean, if someone bought something from me and I sent it out insured, I wouldn't wait until finding out whether it's been delivered before spending it. I have no idea what communications the two of you are having through e-mail, and maybe your argument would have more weight if you posted actual e-mail extracts instead of all this he-says she-says

Actually thats some pretty wack math, Spike. He`s only a backpack down because he got the $144 from JDM before he sent the backpack...It` s not $288 overall!

--- Original message by MilSpex on Mar 4, 2006 07:00 PM

what he meant is that if he give back the money without getting a letter saying the bag didn't arrive, then he'll be 288$ down (price of backpack +refund).

--- Original message by Kasper on Mar 4, 2006 10:47 PM

Nope, the equation would be Original Payment by JDM (+$144 )- Price of Backpack (-$144) -Refund for payment(-$144) = -$144. $144 down, not $288. See where Im comin from?

i'm a bit hungover so my head is kind of slow. guess i made quite a fool of myself there.

  10. Quote: I want to order a handful of things but the question marks are out of control.

you need to install asian fonts,if you're using Windows, they're not installed by default. also, you might use a translator like google or bablefish. but in my experience, you don't really need to. the thing people usually don't understand about rakuten is that's a online mall, so you shop in different shops and that make it a bit complicated sometime.

  11. if you don't mind, i'd like to know where you got those. i was told at the Edwin shop that they don't do raw in the 505 line (and it's not on their website either). throwing them in the drawer might help

  12. Quote: I read that you can get a prepaid card for 1000 Yen, 2000 Yen, etc. and keep using it for different stuff till it runs out, seems like a good way instead of having to buy a ticket each time.....guess I will find out for myself in a couple weeks here....he heh

that's what i do, i think it's best cause you somewhat have less change in your pocket (to many coins in Japan) and you don't need to check how much is it everytime you take the subway. just stupid that JR is using their own system (on a side note, they just introduce paying with your cellphone for train, it's so usefull, just put the cellphone when you cross the gate). wish more cities had a system like that.

  13. Quote: What's the cheapest way to get around? I know there are store value cards and stuff but they seem a bit confusing at best

i'll admit the city public transport system is quite confusing. the things is that there's 2 subway compagnies plus many private train companies. it's possible to buy one day pass, but as far as i know, you cannot get a pass that will work for more than one company (tokyo metro pass are only good on tokyo metro, etc). subway is quite cheap so unless you take it a lot, just buy ticket each time you ride, i would be surprise if you'd spend more 10$ a day, which is quite reasonable. and many tokyo neighborhood are close to each other so walking will let you see the city and stuff you wouldn't have seen otherwise. like many people have said before on another thread about Tokyo, getting lost is half the fun. i forgot to say, taxis are insanely expensive so only take them if you really need.

  14. depend what you are looking for, if you want a really small camera, i would recommend something from the Powershot SD from Canon, The Sony also does some nice camera (i especially like the DSC-N1) or Nikon does also some nice one (i don't know their ultra-compact so much). but in that categorie, i would recomend the Casio Exilim Card, some of the smallest cameras around and very stylish and also take good picture. if you don't mind something a little bigger, i would recomend getting a Canon powershot A620, that's what i have. it got a swiveling screen so the screen never get scratchs, a good optical zoom and the best thing about that camera is that it has a lot of manual controls, something you won't find on any camera of the same price. it's a good choice if you're learning photographie or if you wan't manual feature without having to carry around a big SLR. the drawback is that it's a little bigger than a point and shot (but it still fit in my pocket).

  15. Quote: Last time i was at urban outfitters i saw fake diesels, people returns fake jeans from ebay or somtin and make profits

haha, i did that with best buy, bought some broken shit on ebay, and returned it. make quite a lot of money. honestly, i don't see any reason to shop at Urban Outfitter apart from the sale they have from time to time that are quite good. i'm not surprised at all they would try to sell fake stuff. anyway, i'm sure management is probably some old dude who now nothing about streetwear.

  16. Chapter Worlds has them, but i can't click on them (probably sold out). it's weird cause i saw them at the Harajuku store like 2 weeks ago and i ask and they had tons of size (i'm also thinking of buying them). anyway, if you can't find them, i could pick up a pair for you if you want. if i rememer corectly, they were around 26000 yens .
