  1. today was the first day of the 45rpm sale at the Mercer store....no 5 pocket denim on sale but some nice cords (only size 30 which fit like a 28) and lots of great shirts...for women they had alot of nice stuff...my girlfriend picked up the skirt she had wanted for halfoff (everything on sale is on sale for halfoff) and they had some really nice coats and sweaters. everything there is so well made and of such high quality and the staff is always so nice. great store. wish i was rich. also i asked about any new denim for spring and they said no...still have the sorahiko, jomon, umii, bc4000....they have the charcoal distressed jomon jean ($754) at the mercer store which i've never seen before...these look really nice and would be a nice change from bluejeans.

  2. the t-shirts are $14..i hardly consider this expensive and i think the quality is generally pretty decent, the cotton feels nice and soft and fit is slim which is what everyone likes...isn't it? and they do have dressing rooms so you can try the clothes on first....so what's the problem? all this complaining from a bunch of kids who pay between $50-$100 for a t-shirt with a crumby silkscreen on it. gimme a break.

  3. alittle less informative than i would have liked...it reminded of those books you get about your favorite band when you're in junior high that highlights all of the stuff you already know plus a few little bonus items you didn't know and has a shit load of decent pictures(i.e. a book about led zep or the doors). still appreciated the fact that somebody outside of japan actually did a denim book. plus what was up with that back cover photo...yikes...seems like he could have found something better.

  4. i agree...well said...however i have to say that i don't agree with people saying that because they are new 501's that they will not turn out good or are of bad quality...i would definently rate new 501's above APC's in construction and i've seen a couple pairs of late 90's and even more recent 501's turnout great and i'm sure they will last longer or as long as most nudies and longer than apc and for way less than half the cost. they're quality might have gone down abit in recent years but they still know this game better than anyone.

  5. it's pretty amazing that a kid with a $30 pair of Levis 501stf has gotten better results on his jeans than a bunch of people who spend $200+ and in 1/3 of the time. Those look like my Sorahikos after 4 months of just about everyday wear and I spent 15 times what those levis cost.

  6. so you've had three hooded sweatshirts from AA and hey have all unraveled? from normal wear and tear? and i'm not saying this is your case but hooded sweatshirts tend to be worn just about everyday by those who own them andi wouldn't consider wearing something like to that extreme normal wear and tear and if they happen to unravel or tear after 100 wears in 3months well then what did you expect...next time but a suit of iron. i had this AA quality discussion with a friend of mine today at brunch because he's a designer for a few clothing labels and while the sizing might be inconsistant their quality is no worse than champion or other premium athletic clothing companies. i have a few vintage champions, a RRL double V, LVC double V, 50's Hanes and also an AA sweatshirt and while the quality of the materials (cotton, thread) isn't as nice as any of those listed I think the AA is just as durable and will hopefully last just as long (although I wear it alot so probably not)and actually the waistband has proven to hold it's elasticity better than almost all of those. Now I don't think they are the be all end all athletic clothier but I don't they do a bad job and honestly most kids that hate I think are just jealous that someone close to their age is making a mint off a simple marketing strategy....and the marketing strategy in my opinion should be the real issue here.

  7. i don't understand why everyone of this board praises APCs. I know this will get dismissed as my opinion but I think APCs look cheap, feel cheap, fade cheap....I gave in awhile back and bought a pair to see what all the hype was about and the more I wear them the more I notice wrong with them.

  8. as long as i'm in nyc and away from the midwest and any possibility of finding good vintage jeans i'll continue to buy expensive new jeans. i foolishly sold off all my vintage bigE jeans before i moved to california a few years ago because i needed the money...big mistake. is there any place in new york that sells vintage levis and lee for a decent price (ebay going rate...i guess). i went to that store "What goes around comes around" but they were soooo pricey that i hated even being in there...seriously double if not triple the price i have seen similar lees/levis go for on ebay. any help?

  9. i've found lots of good stuff at the thriftstores in the detroit area over the past 10+ years...a few pairs of 50's/60's 501's, lots of orange tab bigE, double v's, old denim work shirts and westerns...nothing really designer but that's not what i look for. as i've said before and as most of you in the nyc area know beacons closet gets really good second hand stuff....i see comme des garcon, lvc, fred perry, prada, marc jacobs and all that shit all time there for really cheap..like $10-20. last time i was there i got a bigE western flannel for $12, a 60's roebucks greenline selvage jacket which looks brandnew with really dark indigo for $15 and as i said before they had some 45rpm jeans for $15. good store and they buy at fairly decent prices.

  10. they did have a pair of older 45rpm jeans at the beacons closet in park slope when i was there last week. nonselvedge, 29 waist, soft as hell denim, faded to a nice medium blue, no whiskers....i think they were $15 which is $10 cheaper than they charge for PD&C jeans. as for the sale...they didn't mention any prices but even if everything is half off everything will still be really pricey.

  11. i just got back from the uppereastside 45rpm store. got the jomon jean in one wash. i feel like this is the pair of jeans i've been looking for since i started buying jeans. perfect slim fit similar to the 47 levis, nice heavy 14oz denim, well constructed for wearing to work, beautiful color that should fade perfectly....expensive but this hopefully will be it for me for awhile. also the sale starts in january and will be at the soho store and will not include 5 pocket jeans.

  12. are two creases in the fabric rubbing together when you walk? this would be the only explanation i could think of. one thing i don't understand is why kids buy these lvc collection jeans which are rereleased to highlight a certain fit only to wear them "low" so they are all bunched up and imo look like shit. seriously why not just buy some other brand of cool jean and leave the already hard to find lvc jeans to the people who like the true fit of that style. make sense? i mean it's not like that years specific style is recognizable anymore so what's the point?

  13. the majority of thrift stores know what to look for and when they find it they sell it alot of the times to a vintage colthing distro in bulk at least in michigan this is the case. detroit has great thrift stores and occasionally i can turn up a pair of bigE levis but sweatshirts are a much easier catch because i don't think the thrifts have caught on. alot of these double v's can go for just as much as a pair of jeans from the same era. as for big label shit...just go to beacons closet in brooklyn (park slope or williamsburg) tons of designer clothes for $10. i regularly see $200-300 shirts for $10-20.
