Jeans sizings are getting crazy these days. I have got pairs ranging from 30 to 34.

Pretty risky buying off an estore unless you have seen them in real life.

How much are you paying for them by the way?

I hope that itch isn't what i think it is...

  2. I think the idea of vinegar is a little bit of home chemistry gone wrong.

I guess what they were trying to say was that you could reduce some of the solid indigo that was layered on top of the fibres (which would come off next wash) back into liquid which could bind to fibres again.

Im pretty sure there is no way this would happen with acetic acid.

  3. No i wouldn't recommend wearing that colour unless you have really bronze or dark skin.

Rust like colours tends to draw colour out of lighter shade people.

  4. The hotter the wash and dry process the more they will shrink

If you don't want them to fade, i would recommend spraying with water (quite a lot) and hot drying.

But if you read some of my earlier posts on this topic. Shrinking jeans (sanforised denim) is useless cause they will expand back out again to the same size.

Store clerks shouldn't let people buy jeans unless they are fitted properly!!!!!!!!

    Silly post.

You were wearing selvage 10 years ago. wow. everyone in the world was wearing selvage 30 years ago.

get informed and then post a controversial statement like that. Can't even begin to tell you where this post falls down

  9. i would not recommend letting anyone with sandpaper within twenty metres of your jeans.

Although dry humping has been suggested on this site, but sorry I am not in Seoul for quite a while so I can't help you on that one.

  10. the lengths people go for their jeans. If only we treated our friends and family with so much respect and love, the world would be a better place.

People wearing their brothers in the bath tub, stretching their mothers out with a weight set, spraying disinfectant deodorant on their girlfriends so they don't stink.

    imagine it.

  11. i dont know what you mean by faked.

Have you seen this exact same fabric in a polo store. Which has lead you to believe that this example on ebay/auction site is real.

As, anyone can knit that fabric there are knitting mills all over the world that may even produce for both RL and bootleggers.

So no you cannot tell it is genuine just because of the fact that it is knitted in a certain way.

  12. I am not sure if they are selvage.

Have you seen them in real life? Looks like they have used a single stitch folder, basically just folds the edge of the fabric under the other and stitched through both layers (finishing off frayed fabric.

That said I cant get a close enough look at it from that page.

  13. That is knitted.

Just think like when grandmothers are knitting a jumper, if she wants to make it striped she uses different coloured yarn on different levels.

Many brands who cannot afford to do this (is quite expensive to setup and design this sort of thing) buy bleached fabric and dye it on the roll or actually just screenprint on stripes.

By far the best is the knitted, like the photo you linked to.

  14. yeah lee used to make with half outseam selvage the other half shaped.

not sure if anyone does anymore. I think if they go to the extra expense of buying the selvage they will show it.

Plus, it makes sewing finishing so much easier.

Personally i love really clean interior finish, thats why i love selvage, two felled seams in one leg is not cool and neither is a lot of overlocking.

My favourites are the really high quality suits and silk shirts you buy from tailors, sometimes i just sit there and look at the finishing.

    Bit weird yes...

  15. Yeah 29" was the most popular for that exact reason andewhall. The ratio of length to width is perfect for trousers.

But then again the next most popular was about 40" and i suppose you could get waist bands or belt loops out of that region.

  16. this whole thing about not washing is funny.

Nudie pushes it as there denim is not so nice. Few dips and has sulphur dye as well.

It is necessary for nudie APC etc, to achieve very high contrast, ie the folds very pronounced.

But when you have superdark indigo, then the fading will take longer and washing doesn't prove a problem at all.

I always use the example of this old man i saw once, his levis were spectacular fade, and i'm sure he bought them rinse wash and his wife would have washed them every week of his life.

So just wear them i think, don't wash them a heap but then don't go off and grow a fungus farm like some of the guys on this board.

  17. fair enough.

Your right, there is no way to tell except if you see a roll.

Not many wide shuttle looms are left. I think they got destroyed when projectile came in. In some countries by law you have to destroy looms when you replace them

    Something about keeping production level...

I know some of the japanese mills use wider than 28" though.

  18. how on earth can you tell?

Granted it is shuttle loomed denim... But like i said i've woven denim on shuttle looms up to 60 inch wide as opposed to the 28" considered narrow width.

Please tell me cause from that picture all i can tell is shuttle loomed with bleached weft, indigo+sulphur warp. Looks like pretty standard yarn. That's it. In fact i wouldn't even be sure of that given colour differences in monitors...
