  1. begin with tshirts.

pants such as jeans can be complicated because of the amount times you have to connect four parts at one point, will confuse even the better pattern makers.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

  2. bloc party, franz ferdinand, libertines, art brut, razorlight, arctic monkeys

long list of NME hyped bands that were decent but never lived up to the hype.

that said i think arctic monkeys single is quite clever and franz ferdinands the fallen has a couple of great riffs that any of the great jim's would have been proud of.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

  3. yes i was trying to find the thread where i was explaining about this topic.

it turns out that i couldn't find it so people who go an about searching, even the originator of the post couldn't find it this time!!!

Anyway as paul T was saying it is more to do with the way the yarn is treated. ring/ring denim is by far the strongest comparatively (when you compare same weight) than ring/oe or oe/oe.

This is because in ringspun yarns every fibre contributes to the strength of the fabric whereas in oe yarns many fibres are just along for the ride (so to speak). So they contribute weight but not strength, up to 20% in a lot of OE yarns are not contributing to strength

Selvage are always ring/ring so i guess your statement is sort of right, if you qualify it.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

  4. tangerine

the other thing you have to remember about some things like US steel, not sure about this specific example but some of these names are either really old (before trademark laws evolved to what they are today) or are just company names and would have trouble protecting themselves against a product labelled similarly.

I do not understand how you cannot understand my last post. If not surely you could have read through minya's wikipedia listing.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

  5. Yes you are obviously not schooled.

to be honest neither am I in US trademark law. But i do know with my dealings in Asia and Europe that neither american apparel would struggle to be registered in most regions.

let me explain to you as obviously my last post was too oblique.

apparel is a common usage word, like clothing, sportswear, shoes, shirts.

If I went to register American Apparel and there was already someone with American Clothing, american shirts or in fact American ****** in the business of clothing/fashion/manufacturing, then there would not be a significant enough difference for the market to discriminate between brands.

Don't get caught up with the word apparel it just means clothes and hence (i'm not totally sure) would be classified as common usage and not enough to differentiate.

Furthermore, names of places are often not allowed to be trademarked, so thats why I asked the question.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

They didn't trademark "America". They trademarked "American Apparel".

I agree about the New York stores having hot employess. I'm sure it's like that in every silngle AA store. I also love the pics in the store.

did you read my post at all?

    or are you just stupid?

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

  7. no i'm not kidding.

it is like trademarking the name "american". Apparel is a common usage word and does not differentiate it from any other previous brand called "american" something eg. american clothing, american vintage clothing etc.

Obviously different territories have different rules but i would have though US was pretty much the same as Asia/Pac and EEC.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

  8. The black dye used doesn' have the same qualities as indigo, so will not fade in the same way.

Some companies use an indigo/black combination, doesn't work trust me.

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...

trust me...i've been buying music (and probably into what you'd consider "indie") for longer than you've been buying your dunk sb's. so maybe i am a bit jaded???

  10. mixed up

the allusion to vinyl is a joke aimed at those of you who are all holier than thou about music appreciation.

    ie.

normal listener - have you heard that new song "insert recently released single".

indie kid - that old one, i heard that like two years ago on acetate in a members only record basement in "insert hip district of your particular town". I'm actually into this experimental glitch acid emo house polka dancehall shit that aphex twin's twin brother is doing with the bassist from devo, it is produced by the guy who was going to play drums for the brianjones town massacre until he flipped out on acid ...

normal listener - cool (this guy is a wanker)

    Well excuse me! Excuse me...
