I think that was an interesting and thoughtful choice on your part, CD as far as the FSA book goes.

^my 2 cents:
I received that James Sullivan book as a birthday present and was thoroughly disappointed in it. The language was way too verbose and distracting to make for a good read. I much prefer Paul T's book to his.
Let me know what you think of it when you get achance to start reading

the 86 animated feature is the best of the bunch, imo. It really gives you a lot of classic moments without too much unneccesary dialogue (which you would get from watching the 80's tv series)
The new OVAs are shit, I just watched them on Netflix... not worth your time. And don't even get me started on the live action movie.

you do realize that the selvedge is just the edge of the fabric... it doesn't have any mystical properties besides that...
what part of your jeans are you patching anyway? if you're doing your knees then it doesn't really make sense to use the selvedge... Cheep used it on the border of his pockets, which looked nice

I've found the shutting down of the Internet in Myanmar to be deeply disturbing... the stranglehold they've had over the control of information can only mean bad things are on the horizon.

I know that specs are going up tonight, but I'm guessing that the denim used is the same denim as the SC47s? If so, that's some great denim right there... ages real nice.

Beautiful textiles, nightdeposit.
Does anyone have any examples of the use of indigo in India? I've seen a lot of examples throughout SE Asia during my time at college, but I'd be curious to see how it was used in India in general (since indigo was probably introduced to SE Asia from India)

As promised - pics of Sugar Canes 45 - worn by Cheep - and than by me..
It's your denim lovechild!
Not surprising that there is heavy wear in the crotch and butt area...
They look great! Are they a LHT ?

Just found an example for the fit of these suckers..
yeah, I saw that pic this morn... it totally sealed the deal for me. Just a nice, simple, modern fitting pair of jeans with some great denim.

they are going to stretch a bit in the waist... Mine stretched maybe an inch or so after about 2-3 weeks. It's not a problem if you wear a belt, honestly. I just wash whenever I feel it's getting too loose. Also, depending on the cut, the thighs can be very slim and thighs don't really stretch too much... so it mya be to your disadvantage to size down.
Incidentally, RRL does make odd sizes in other jeans, my pair of slim fits are a 31x32 (but my normal size is 30... couldn't say no to the price, though)
RRLs are a great compromise between "modern" details (sanforization, fit) and vintage flavorings (branding, hardware, etc)

warehouse has made a number of lee repros... someone has a pair here that still have the Levi's arcs (which I think dates back to around the 20's or 30's)

I don't think Levi's (or any old time jeans, for that matter) ever used "natural" indigo...
The combination of natural indigo and jeans is a purely modern invention. Dying garments with natural indigo is more of an artisanal thing...

no... the 7000VX is a separate buckleback model that went out of production for a bit and was recently voted back into production through Samurai's website.
Differences:
7000VX is Zero Denim, has suspender buttons, buckleback is on the waistband, exposed backpocket rivets, one backpocket (and I think a crotch rivet?). A little fuller cut than the 5000, if I'm not mistaken, but I don't think as full as the 3000.
The BiG model is 505 Denim, buckleback is below the waistband, hidden backpocket rivets (I think) Crotch Rivet, Blue and Green plaid pocket bags, no suspender buttons, 5000 cut and a patch designed by our very own coleslawyum (designer of the WH x BiG patch)

I haven't washed my 505s yet, but the denim is my favorite by far of anything I have worn. There is some nice streaking, but not too much, like I feel the PBJs have. The denim has roughly the same thickness as the 47s, but there seems to be much more life with the 505 denim. There are small subtleties that make give the 505 character.
Edit: I just wish they had hidden rivets. Also, I thought, the S0505 was a replica of the 67 model Levis 505s. If this is the case, they messed up big time. I have the lvc 505s and the fit is not the same.
I almost didn't want to hear that... makes me wish I had jumped on them when I had the chance... oh well.
They did fit great and the denim was on point in so many different ways. It's just a little too bad (for the denim geek in me) that it's a zip fly with bartacks. And I think they were not so much meant to be a repro of the 67 505 as much as they were supposed to be "inspired" by it. Samurai doesn't generally do straight up repros, but more derivations, if you will. I think that's part of why they're pretty popular over here.
