*please excuse the stain, this shirt has seen better days

So odd.. i have this exact shirt..

i recently got his newer one that just says "DON'T HOLLA" across the chest.

Too bad they were both made in XL only, which means they're four sizes too large for me.

  2. If I'm paying $300 for denim then I don't want to

    • throw my money away if the cut in the inseams is not up to my standard
    • lose the taper and proportion

I wll not buy jeans with a longer inseam than 34 inches. It's as simple as that.

If manufacturers are producing one length jeans which are longer than 34 inches then I think they are not catering for the majority of their customers.

    Another level

I think one thing you don't understand is that when a manufacturer makes a shorter inseam they're NOT resizing every other aspect of the jean. They're merely cuttting off the bottom 2 to 3 inches.

It's seroiusly no different than if you took it to a tailor.

Keep in mind i'm talking about SMALL run Japanese manufacturers such as Iron Heart, Flat Head, etc... Not higher production larger companies, i'm not familiar with their process.

  3. I'm 5'8", I find that a 34 measured inseam is fine, but 36 is too long. I don't like getting hems done, so I avoid 36 inseams.

To the original poster, I think stacking a 34 inseam will look fine on you. Luckily, the majority of japanese jeans are 34. Many shrink even shorter.

You know, i find it very odd.. we have quite a few customers that come into Self Edge that also refuse to buy something that they have to hem (even though we hem for free, it doesnt' seem like a decision made out of a cost restriction). I can safely say that all of them are easily under the age of 20.

I point out that what they're doing makes them exclude Iron Heart, Flat Head, Samurai, and Imperial from their choices, most of them seem bothered that they now can't buy those brands.

I just shake my head out of confusion.

  4. Sorta. I'm 6'1", but I seem to have short legs or something, 33" inseam works for me, I'm not into the uberstack look. When I bought the S7100XX it had a tapered leg, but after hemming, not so much. Have you decided against a pair because hemming would change look of the jean?

Definitely. That's why you'll never see me wearing a pair Samurais.

Once i cut off the bottom 4" or 5", i've essentially cut off all the taper and that look doesn't work well for me.

That's one of the reasons i've gotten really into Flat Head, because they come in a 36" inseam but they shrink a LOT, therefore there's no need for a hem.

So if you're careful you can decided on how much they're going to shrink by knowing the properties of the denim and how long to soak them for, etc..

  5. Do you select jeans with hemming in mind?

I just figure i've got to hem almost everything.. i pay no attention to length..

Most Sugarcane jeans are ok for me because the inseams are normally around 33.5".. but almost everything else i've got to take off an inch or two..

    is that what you meant?

  6. looks like a run-of-the-mill "original hem" job, which 90% of tailors can do for about $20. Personally I think they look terrible, I see rich short chicks getting "original hems" all the time on their Seven/True Religions. After someone told me about it, I can spot them a mile away.

Personally I would rather have a plain stitched cut hem over a original hem, especially on raw or one wash jeans.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

  7. It's been a long three months in the making..

Along the way we met designers from Japan, almost killed ourselves opening the store, moved quite a bit of product, fell in love with a few brands, and got sued by Levi's.

But somehow we've made it, we love you all, and thanks for all the support that you've given us these few months.

Stick with us, we'll try and make your denim buying life as easy as possible by offering help anytime you need it, and also trying to make the hard-to-find denim buying experience more pleasurable while keeping the prices as low as we can.

I'm happy to present the beginning of our online store. We're starting with a little product and adding more every five days or so. I've personally measured EVERY size of every model/cut we carry to take the guess-work out of deciding on which size to purchase.

We'll be adding the Flat Head 3001, Iron Heart 634S, SEXIH (after one week of being released in-store only), Flat Head Button Down Shirts, Sugarcane Belts, and much more in about three or four weeks.

Please go to our site and sign up for our mailing list to be informed of updates and specials if you'd like..

If you have any questions, feel free to call us... we like to talk.
