Interesting video about Valencia st.. I recognised those same “found in a mine” jeans straightaway from this video. They weren’t all “white gloves and safes” back in the 90s..

Exactly. But not if they were sanforized and then labelled a 32 inch waist

Of course there were photos.. I thought they were a genuine fade, not pre faded. Though many bits are genuine fades like the pocket rivet fades. Maybe they were “new rinse” originally, who knows. My point is, fake fades usually don’t look good, and I usually spot them.

Check out these 1944 555s I got.. I made the mistake of thinking they were originally raw and that the 32W 34L after quite a lot of washing would be a good fit for me.
they have to be a prewash though because they are BAGGY.. you can still see the screen printed arcs on the edges a bit. Patch gone, and no dark blue underneath.. another possible tell tale that these were sanforised.
Not sure what I will do with them, maybe take them in, keep them as they are, maybe for denim for any future patching requirements. The crotch could use some attention, it has previously been fixed.. I don’t know if the baggy grunge look is growing on me maybe..

Cone denim Levis 1890s 501; one year ago and today.
90 days wear and 158 days wear respectively.. one very light bathtub wash (with hardly any Mr Black denim wash) at 133 days wear, I wasn’t planning to wash them so soon but they were so dirty with all the dirt and ash i engrained into them, wiped oil on the legs as well as old candle wax. I only treated these “miner jeans” this harshly..

I just came on to see if anyone else had mentioned the price hike on Levi’s.com (uk). Up from £180 to £210, a rise of 17%.
merry Christmas from Levi’s!

Ah yeah, missed that.
I don’t think I will be keeping them as they are too tight and I don’t really like the fit.
I paid £95 + £9 postage and am currently trying to decide whether I should return them or sell them on.

Definitely legit, right away the quality is there. I was just confused by the made in turkey, whats the deal with that? Are they cone denim?

they fit very much like mine.. some reassurance when I come to replace them years later.

I have to say that the ‘55s are a great cut for me, the perfect amount of rise, thigh room and taper, I wish I’d started wearing them earlier. I really like the denim, it’s light enough for the usual summer temperatures in London (when it’s too hot I’m in shorts anyway) but not as flimsy as say, the lighter ‘37 denim, so substantial enough for winter wear too. I’ll post some photos when there’s progress worth showing, I’m currently only a few weeks in.
I’m glad I have a spare pair too, 2009 vintage!
The 55 have become my favourite too. I wish I had bought these first.. they are so roomy, and bold. everything about them is so wholesome and of the 50's period. I look at everyone wearing tight tapered jeans and feel sorry for them.
funny thing is, my first pair of jeans I owned , circa 1989- had the same kind of boxy cut to them. and big cuffs so I could grow into them.

I think those old candles would have been made from tallow rather than whatever their modern counterparts use.

I know what you mean. I ended up removing most of it. This involved an iron and kitchen roll. Not because it looked like cum, just because it didn’t look how I wanted it to in the video with the calico jeans, and it has those marks which look like white paint, its miners wax. But the wax they used isn’t really anything like regular candle wax.

Ha ha ha. Well Now that you mention it, there is this old victorian farmers field near me, all grass and overgrowth now, but recently a digger went through part of the field, and it’s unearthed a lot of cool stuff, like Victorian bottles, marbles, coal or Antracite, pottery... I’ve been stuffing the pockets of these jeans with lumps of black coal.
and I never put my phone in the front pockets. These jeans are very sublte faders, you only really notice the fading when you look back to when they were new :

better pictures as the sun has come out.
As my Calico miner jeans, I have tried to make them more authentic by deliberately sitting on nice patches of dust/dirt when out walking. I do the gardening in them, I’ve rubbed oil on them.. (not too much) and even a little candle wax to try and get that miners candle staining on them.

Its hard to really capture the fading on camera, they look better in person.
They have been changing quite quickly these past few weeks.

The people who buy these things never even wear them, they just keep them in the bag forever.

I decided to keep the 1944's. they reminded me of Kurt Cobains jeans from MTV Live and Loud, ones he called his "rap jeans". I paired them with this Lee 101 Rider jacket.
I'll never wear them much until my other jeans are more worn in, but they do have a nice "retro" fade, much softer and machine washed but pretty good. wallet fade, and if you look carefully there are actually some knee creases. early ish LVC so they aren't accurate as later 1944 recreations. the buttons aren't right, and the red tab though single sided, has an (R) on it.
