  3. ^ depends what you're using it for, are you looking for single origin coffees for espresso/filter or a standard blend for espressos.

Single origin is legit although I've yet to use their beans personally.

Toby's estate near Usyd is my go to just because its cheaper in general, it's on the way and decent for price-quality ratio (I think was about $14 + you get a free small coffee vs $17ish from smaller roasters)

Reuben hills has one of the better, most consistently roasted beans I've seen (fat, barely any cracked ones, and really light roast which I like) but comes at the more standard $17+ price tag

Sample coffee down near Central station also does pretty well but my first and only experience with them was pretty underwhelming for a bag of $19 beans. Will give another go tho.

Campos was good for a while before I realized they went dark roast with all their single origin beans, which IMO defeats the purpose when I'm using manual brews. Also doesn't help that every "better" cafe stocks their beans and uses that as an excuse to charge $4 for a regular coffee.

Coffee alchemy/Gumption coffee also sells beans and going by their rep they should be good as well, but will have to try first tho so don't take my word for it

and I did online delivery 1-2 times before from 5 senses, probably won't do that again with delayed shipping and stuff

  4. ^ Not so sure about SB (a quick google shows me they're going into administration) but with G star I suppose its not that surprising.

Rarely see people in their city store in world square if at all and with their price points I'd think most people would rather go nudies or something

BTW does anyone know a reasonably good tailor? Planning to hem a pair of curve pants and I honestly don't trust my local chinese tailor to do the job. Just looking for a simple over lock stitch really.

  5. ^ my go to when I'm around and feel like grabbing some beers. The old dude which I presume to be the owner is super knowledgeable about craft beers and really friendly

They do regular whisky tastings or something too. Too bad a lot of the imported stuff is marked up due to taxes (much like everything else in Aus)

Mary's burgers is good, just gets really noisy and dim and from what I've been told by folks whose gone to the US still not as good as In n Out or something. They are also a wee bit more expensive, 14ish I think it was. Their mash is good tho. Fried chickens alright,

Also for those whose into something odd try dropping by the Corner by McCafe. Its a weird concept thing they're doing and just 5 minutes walk from my building. Not bad but pulled pork was waaay too sweet for my liking.

edit: this summarizes it quite well

  6. Orphan Espresso Lido 2 for sufu-approved insanity

Does anyone actually own this? Saw people rave on these last year I think but reading the Q&A on their site just now puts me off. Paying $175 for 10% fines for a supposedly consistent hand grinder seems unappealing to say the least.

  7. gonna be in sydney for 2 days and haven't been in over a decade...best coffee? restaurant recommendations (particularly thai or japanese)? cbd or super close by only.

edit: bummed i'm a week late for htrk.

coffee alchemy down at Marrickville is a personal favourite but it is out of your way abit. Alternatively they opened up Gumption down at CBD near Myers

    Reuben hills (Surry Hills),

Brewtown Newtown (outer city sort of, also owned by the makers of Gnome in Surry Hills),

Paramount Coffee Project is smack bang in the city

  8. I'm up for a job that pays insanely well but the commute is nuts: three hours there and back. If I accepted I'd make more money in the next four months that I ever have in any tax year. That's a whole lotta cheese.

I commuted ~45 minutes everyday in high school for a $7 an hour job, I guess I'd probably drive 3 hours for $25 an hour.

    ^this

if it's 3 hours each way you should consider looking for a place to sleep that is close to the job for the 4 months. especially if the pay is so good.

also 4 months is like nothing (or maybe i misread that)

count your blessings. I'm commuting 1.5 - 2 hours both ways in peak hour traffic for my research sem. In effect, I'm paying to get stuck in traffic. Also public transport takes about the same time

On a better note, enjoying the experience so far + supervisor's pretty cool
