  1. agreed with tmadd on this one. frye boots are absurdly overpriced at $400 esp with so many other brands offering better made boots in that price range like whites semi dress. or you could even spend a lot less on a pair of red wings and it'd be a much better boot than anything frye offers.

  2. How come he decided to go with a 11oz denim?

I actually talked to him about that when he was still putting together the final details on the jean and basically, he was pretty interested in a lighter weight denim for this jean because he wanted a more "highly constructed denim" which for he described as a fabric where even though it's lighter, it has more more yarn packed in per square inch so that the denim has a much tighter weave which makes it more durable and longer lasting.

the denim definitely feels more substantial than any other 11oz denim and just feels like a tough piece of fabric.

  3. haha in that specific situation, i'd definitely buy it again. it's a great looking shirt that ages well. the newer fits are a little bigger than the one i have but still fits well as an layering shirt.

  4. i have one of his work shirts and am considering the natural herringbone. anyone have experience with it? curious how it looks after being worn for awhile. there was a pic of some guy working on a boat wearing one on their site a while ago, but that is all i've really seen.

also, i wonder if the new ones are a different fabric(it is 11oz.). the 8oz. work shirt i have is pretty substantial. definitely not something i wear during the warmer months. i don't really need another shirt that can't be worn for most of the year but i remember last time they were up i was bummed my size was out.

i've had the natural herringbone for a couple months. as you'd expect it, it attracts stains and what not easily which is looking kind of cool so far but i think i'll have to wash it pretty soon since it's getting a grimy along with the additional indigo rub off. i heard that the new shirts are a different fabric from the previous shirts but i don't know how they differ.

  5. i work on my jeans almost every day (i'm cameraman so it's can be everywhere) i'm the most of the time on my knees and my jeans is like a mop when i work. I never had the crotch to repair. So i found that hard to believe and if you work on a desk it's harder to belive.

thats good for you. you're a lucky guy then but i assure you that crotch blowouts can happen quickly even if you have the most perfectly sized pants ever.

i also don't work a desk job, walk about 3-4 miles a day but my thighs are just big and rub when i walk. I was blessed with my parents legs and made them worse with years of soccer and tennis as a kid.

of course when i wore tighter and skinnier jeans and also when I was a lot heavier it wore down a lot faster but it still happens no matter what size, cut, style the jeans are. I slimmed down to about 140lbs (i'm about 5'9) and it still happens so if you have some magical trick that can slim down my thighs, please PM me and i'll be forever thankful.

  6. I just can't believe that... If i have to repair the crotch on my pair of jeans once a year it's just because i did a mistake about sizing...

why is it that hard to believe? i wear my jeans almost every day from morning to night with active activity in them a few times a month ie. hiking, biking, etc. if i worked a desk job, then yeah i wouldn't have too many issues.

  7. Personally, I think it's better to buy and sell in order to find the stuff that fits and works best for you, rather than have a big collection of things that don't get worn.  If you're spending the amount of money that it costs to buy stuff from brands like Flat Head, every item you buy should be your favorite pair of jeans/shirt/etc.

definitely agree! with the way clothes from flat head and other brands are constructed, it'd be a shame to have a bunch of pieces that don't get worn and aged over time. plus, my wallet would be much thinner if i didn't sell the stuff i didn't absolutely love

  8. from what i've heard and read, APC and Nudies treat their denim so much that it needs the 6+ month time w/o wash in order to get some great fading and they suggest things like beach washing to help increase the dramatic fading (plus it helps with the whole branding and creating buzz when you suggest crazy things like that). i feel like with samurai and any other brands where the denim is loom state and unsanforized, you don't need to do drastic things like that in order to get that same fading.

  9. I wasn't upset, just curious... the shirt is kinda crazy, its got an extra button pocket that is genius.  It holds the placket straight at the bottom of the shirt due to the small bit of added weight because the buttons are hidden in a small pocket at the bottom tip of the placket (or as Roy calls it, "the cyanide pocket, they'll never take you alive").

dang, can't wait to see this on fri. might need to drop some money on this guy
