  1. Trip down memory lane. Sheffield, as ever yet also increasingly, a curious mix of dereliction and development. But also steeped with history, architecture and, my reason for stopping, long standing traditional booze holes. Well, maybe not the former - long since and still closed, but the latter I was delighted to find, open. Doesn’t serve Kelham Island Brewery, but makes up for it with a superb range of alternative local ale.
  2. The Kelham Island Brewery was rescued from closure was it not mate? One of my abiding memories of Sheffield when I was there early 2000 was catching the tram from the Glossop rd stop down to Hillsborough, going to what was then Ingle’s boxing gym run by Ryan Rhodes. My first encounter with local colloquialism being greeted by the driver with a cheery “o’reight luv” (or would it have been “a’reet”?). Anyway, approaching Kelham Island would be announced by a long emphasised “Shaaalesmoor”… ..Little did I know years later that area would become an important location to me for other longstanding reasons. No, not ladies of the night, but the joy and utter superiority over all other of Yorkshire real ale.
  3. Better out on a bike or over the moors than cooped up over a screen! Yes, far from the honorary homeland. Though I still get to visit the North occasionally, Leeds, but don't worry, my mate isn't orange. Funnily enough I was in Sheffield this time last year, went to see Left Field at the O2, though I suspect you'd know it as Roxy's
