  1. I've been really intrigued at the idea of a flexible screen incorporated into a garment for a while now, and I think the level of tech I'd imagined using is finally available. Years back the snowboard brand Analog did a jacket with a LED screen and softswitch technology built into the forearm of one of their jackets, and you linked your smartphone via Bluetooth to transfer data to and from the interface. It was limited to receiving a phone call or playing music, but I was blown away at the concept, and always wanted to see it pursued. I haven't seen anyone dig into anything like this, but I think I'm going to. I've been watching Samsung's Amoled screen being introduced for a bit now, and was curious if something like this was introduced into apparel, what would you want from it, or would you want it at all? I'm imagining a 2" X 4" flexible touchscreen display on the left forearm of a jacket underneath a clear and waterproof cover, and being able to do most or all of the functions of a phone from an arm mounted screen. Would be amazing if it was modular so you could move it into other garments as needed, but that's probably a ways off. I know it's going to be expensive at first, but I'm pretty fucking geeked out at the idea of rarely if ever having to hold my phone in my hand, especially in inclement weather.

  2. When you're at a crowded bar, and people are standing at the bar slowly and casually enjoying their drink. Motherfucker there's 40 people trying to elbow past you, get out the fucking way.

  3. we have a handful of retailers on board, mainly in the SF area, and the webstore is being updated right now to be more reflective of the true brand image. We're sort of formally launching the right way this season, it's been a few attempts with nothing solid sticking for a couple years now as we work out the direction and identity, but I think we've finally assembled a team of really qualified people with a common vision. I've worked with a handful of brands, and I can really feel that there are legs to this...it has the right components in place to do some really cool stuff, it's just taken a bit of trial and error to get to where we are. Definitely appreciate the support tho!

  4. Heading out to this if anyone in SF is interested, might be cool. Tickets are only $10.

    Wearable Tech Conference

So this was actually pretty interesting. Most of the discussion was around electronics being incorporated into wearables, and not a lot of focus on textiles, but still interesting. People on the panel were involved in the Nike Fuel Band, the Basis band, and a few others, with a focus on exporting biometric data and then what to do with it. It's pretty basic right now, things like pedometers, heart rate, etc, but what they're exploring is really interesting. I don't think it's necessarily far fetched to imagine developments in fabrics which respond to internal or external influences and the applications therein. They talked a lot about the "fashion" side of the businesses and how it was important, mainly in creating something that people actually wanted to wear (as opposed to something amazing, like Google Glass, which is shunned for how it looks, not what it's capable of), and how making something fashionable or trendy is a huge focus...but actually relatively easy.

I think the biggest thing I took away from it was that creating "fashion" really is the base level. That there can be goals or aspirations in developing a product that are far greater than making something that people just think looks cool, but that the need to shape it into consumable form needs to be a major focus. What's the point of making something revolutionary if nobody wants to wear it. Just another interesting way of looking at the true "goal" in producing something. With one of the brands I work with, Endless Ammo, the "goal" was security, so we developed the F-Stop pocket, which is now patented. It's basically an overlapping pocket configuration which holds items securely, is minimal in presence, and doesn't require a fastener of any sort.

Once we accomplished that goal, we started looking into how we can get this pretty amazing design incorporated into a product people wanted to consume, and then from there the natural evolution of designing a product which fits our target market's lifestyle. They all work together, but the original goal of security was solved...but again, if we put it on something nobody wants to wear what's the point.

    Pretty thought provoking stuff imo.

  5. why is this his employer's fault? You guys really need to think about the best way to go about accomplishing your goal, whatever that might be. If it's to get your money back that's one thing, if it's to embarrass him that's another. Like someone else said, post said World Star link here, but I don't see why you'd target his employer.

  6. ^cassava aint that guy

also okayokay, i got nuthin against u, but u write like u got white guilt or something.

I think I've mentioned this before also. Or that I'm at least aware of it.

edit: for clarity, I started reading all my girl's social work books a while back, and shit really re-worked how I look at things and myself. Kinda killed some of the pride, but also made me way less interested in talking shit / being a dick to people. Not really applicable here, but I'm sure it carries over.

  7. starting to believe that shit in life just pendulums back and forth, I keep getting hit with good news/things and starting to feel like I'm either cashing in karma or finally reaping all the hard work I've been putting in. Got some really good reviews from the higher ups at work, and looks like possibly another promotion...and the $ is finally making all the initial work way worth the investment. Doing stuff at work I've never done before and it's actually working out really well. Feeling fortunate. Was just able to drop a donation to a cause I'm stoked on, been a minute since I was able to contribute anything to a charity.

Girlfriend is moving in right now, taking that next step, and she's been really easy and contributing equally. Feels balanced, like we're both invested and interested in seeing what's next. Traveling together a lot and seeing some really cool places.

Last minute work trip to NYC coming up, gonna add on a couple days and explore the city a bit, then running directly back to Vegas and then So Cal. Connected dope spots to stay in all cities.

If anything I'm not buying anything and just dumping $ into travel and seeing stuff / dining. Been on this big "collect experiences not things" kick lately. Feels more satisfying right now. Either way, things are good and seem to be getting better. Can't really complain at all.

  8. I'll admit to some jealousy. El Ron apparently has that killer instinct that gets people paid, I'll give him credit for hustling. Lots  of other people on this site will go on to work unfulfilling jobs and lead generally unfulfilling lives letting other people make the decisions for them, some props to El Ron for getting to the level most everyone here secretly wants to be.

Still tho, do some cooler shit. Stuff normal people (and even normal rich people) can't do. That's what I'm trying to see.

  9. @ Sawyer - I'm sure I've noted that I'm a typical, suburban white guy more times than you've noted that you're insufferably depressed and drifting into a black hole of solitude and sadness and...on and on and on, and then on and on and on some more. So that really shouldn't be surprising, it's not like you're saying anything I haven't said about myself already, and pretty often. Realtalk tho, I really do hope you find a way to make yourself happy at some point. Not talking shit.

Cassava - I brought it up once before and it never got answered, are you the same guy that used to post here about his $29,000something bank balance and how he's been fucking bitches since he was 14 or whatever? I don't know why it keeps hitting me that you're the same person, I can't remember his name (Gullyside maybe?), but if you aren't just say you aren't and I'll let it be. I swear I see so many similarities for some reason. Funny tho, out of all 7 or 10 that don't like me (that took the time to post it here, there's probably scores more) you're the only one that actually adds something interesting to the forum imo, and you probably dislike me the most.

Really tho, I'll vote for myself to put me in the top spot...with 8 votes or whatever. This will be very satisfying for you, Hyun/Sarang, Vampy, Mag and like...3 more people. Even if it's 20, or 30, or 50 I don't know if it makes any real difference. It gets popular to dickride someone on here pretty regularly and I generally stay out of "hating", I rarely even neg anyone, even in this thread, and definitely not trying to be the guy that gets weirdly obsessed with another user (Vampy you still posting about Lando somewhere or did that finally fucking end?). I've been posting less and less lately as things get busier, and as the quality of what does get posted on the forum wanes. If anything I've felt a bit too old to even post much anymore, but shit I post gets +'d, probably because being vanilla appeals to the widest audience? Lowest common denominator concept? You tell me.

Anyway, the only thing I can think of that's worse than getting older and continuing to post semi-regularly, is somehow racking up 6,000+ posts, especially anonymously and about basically nothing. Sick, so you posted here 6,000 times and it’s all forgettable. Sufu's never really cared about being nice to people, it's never gonna change hopefully, but it at least used to be way more clever and interesting. It’s just the same tired and re-hashed bickering over and over again. I usually just watch it from a distance. And with that I just referenced "how much better it used to be"...something I always thought was stupid to do.

edit: wtf you can't rep yourself anymore. Was gonna self neg :/

TL:DR - "lol didn't read" "apply gradient fade" “no shots fired†"etc"

  10. I'd jump in chat and take a look, but not sure I could handle the criticism without throwing a fit. I think you're underestimating how emotionally involved I am in all this.

edit: I am glad though that the focus has shifted onto me, I crave the attention.

"haterz gon hate it makes me work harder" and shit. Or however that goes.
