  1. What's the sizing consensus on the current "resized" 660?

I think the consensus is just go TTS. I'm a true 36, and on the old 660's I bought a 34. I would need 36 in the new ones, though I could probably get away with a 35

  2. Looks like that's the way this is going to turn out. Alot of enthusiasm from a select few...oh well!! I guess we say fuck it and just enjoy it anyway. It would be nice to have posts from a number of contestants, so this thread is constantly being updated, but the submissions from everyone so far have been great.

Yeah, I agree we just need to make the best of the situation. When I first started organizing the original contest, I struggled with selecting contestants. I didn't want to be exclusive and only give spots to "big name" posters, especially since I'm not exactly a prolific sufu user myself. But at the same time, I was concerned about giving a spot to someone with 5 posts to their name and then they never post updates.

I'm glad we ended up being all inclusive, as that's what this community should be about, but it certainly is a bummer that others aren't following through with the updates.

Hopefully they won't submit final pics at the end either, and we will have better chances of winning!

  3. why was this xpost in the Ande Whall contest thread? please tell me you didn't wear jeans.

Nope, definitely didn't wear jeans on the mountain, just on the car ride up. The Ande Whall contest thread isn't exactly overflowing with updates, so I was just providing some pics of what I've been up to

  4. @noodle - when I've had them repaired, it's always been a patch on the inside. However, I got sick of waiting for repairs at Self Edge, so when I taught myself how to sew a patch I did it on the outside. I patched up the knees of my last pair of Ande's on the outside and I rather like the look of it

@ande - I'm with you on the tree runs. I've never done it, but always wanted to. This mountain I've been going to has one tree run (we call them glades) but it wasn't open. Hopefully if I am able to chase a snow storm up to Vermont I will be able to get in some good turns through the trees. Every time I watch a video of the snowy northwest and their trees I get extremely jealous

  5. x-post from Ande Whall contest thread. Some shots from Hunter Mountain in NY this past weekend

NY got a little winter storm, so I chased the snow hoping for good conditions. The drive up was a little sketchy. We left at 5:30am, so it was pitch dark and blowing snow and roads hadn't been plowed yet. Felt much better once the sun came up

    k4OfS.jpg

The mountain had about 5" of fresh snow, so conditions were fantastic in the morning. Unfortunately, everyone's been dying for natural snow, so the slopes were very crowded and the powder got tracked out fast. By the end of the day it was pretty icy again.

I look a bit silly all bundled up, but it was cold! my facemask was frozen solid by the end of the day

Though it would be much simpler to just wear my fleece mid-layer pants up to the mountain, I made sure to wear the Ande's

    at50U.jpg

Hopefully Vermont will see some good snow soon and I can make a trip up there

  7. @paulduke

I think there's a demographic you're forgetting about, which is the rich and uniformed. I know that sounds condescending, but I don't mean it in a harsh way. But there are certainly people who have been made aware of selvage denim (through reading gq or watching how to make in america) and they want to try it out, but they don't have the denim nerd knowledge to distinguish the differences or the desire to spend the time researching. I've met some investment banker dudes who fit this description perfectly. They have the money to spend and the desire to be "on trend", but they're not surfing sufu and geeking out on details. 3x1's space is certainly sleek, so I'd imagine it can pull people in off the streets of SoHo.

  8. next day we went to the National Gallery. I was really feeling the Italian stuff, which is normally not my thing.

went to an amazing restaurant in Arlington, VA called Lyon Hall. This place is right up my alley with a kick ass beer list and very tasty food. I had olives to start

It was a nice way to enjoy the long MLK weekend. I should be going snowboarding again this weekend, so hopefully that will provide for a good update. I think I'm going to hold off on a wash for another month or so.

  9. next up was the air and space museum. I took loads of pics in here as this stuff is very fascinating to me, but I won't bore you with all of those. Here's a highlight though: On the left is spaceship one (the first private spacecraft) and on the right is the Bell x-1 that Chuck Yeager flew to break the sound barrier.

  10. Man do I love me some Fleet Foxes. Helplessness Blues was probably my favorite record of 2011. I'm glad you got to see then live. I saw them this summer and it was fantastic.

I went to DC this weekend to visit my sister and do a bit of sightseeing.

Saw this creepy horse near her place.

We went to see Warhol's shadow series. This exhibition was the first time the complete collection had been displayed together. No photography was allowed so I had to be sneaky...

There were also some Dan Flavin works on exhibit

    more coming...

  11. i've worn them every day and every night i've been taking a front and back shot of them hanging on a wall and will do a stop motion-style movie of the evolution for the year at the end of the contest

This is a great idea! I've been taking a picture of my face every day for the past year and it looks pretty cool, but I bet the jeans evo will be fascinating

  12. how'd them bindings work out?

They are awesome. All my gear is about 8 years old, so it was nice to have some current tech in my setup. They are so much more responsive than my old Flow bindings. They made my very stiff burton custom feel much more flexible torsionally. If get on the snow as much as I hope to this year, I'll probably get a new deck during the end of season sales for next season.

I definitely need to tweak my angles though. My front knee was pretty sore after a few runs.

  13. I went out to eat at momofuku on saturday night. I don't want to be one of those self-important new yorkers who assume everyone in the world should know everything about the city, but I also don't want to be one of those transplants who become all snobby once they move to nyc and act like outsiders don't know shit about shit. so anyways, my point here is that I don't know how well known momofuku is outside of NYC, but just know that it is delicious. their pork buns are next level

woke up waaaay too early in the morning on sunday to go snowboarding. I'm not used to subway travel being part of a snowboarding trip, but that's how it goes... waiting for the train at 6am.

also not used to seeing union square completely deserted. normally it's mobbed

got to Hunter Mountain in the Catskills around 9:30 or so. conditions were typical of the east coast. It wasn't as much of an upgrade over north carolina mountains as I had anticipated. I think I'll need to get up to Vermont for the good stuff

Had a blast, but I'm incredibly sore now. definitely used some muscles that haven't seen much action in a while

  14. Robotbox - i saw this poster on a blog just the other day...Tumblr or theworldsbestever...Something Like that!

    That You?

yeah, you might follow me on tumblr. super-rad.tumblr.com

props on reading theworldsbestever. that's a great blog

  15. great fit and dope vest!

It's pretty frigid today, as I imagine it is for most of the USA. So I'm rocking longjohns under the ande's for the 2nd day straight. Surprisingly comfy, and necessary seeing as my office refuses to turn up the heat. Taking this pic, I realized they are on inside out...

  16. I apologize in advance for the quality of these images. I need to get in the habit of carrying around a camera other than my iphone. I was a photography major in college, so I really have no excuse

A few days before Christmas I went to my brother's house for a little fire pit action. Pictured is my cousin, who is cursing me for turning him on to raw denim. I think he's wearing rrl's in this picture, and is planning on picking up some left fields. I'm so proud! Anyways, the fire gave the andes a nice smoky smell for the duration of the holidays.

On Christmas eve I went with my family to a Panthers game. It was nice to see the Panthers stomp their opponent for a change. As a Georgia fan, I wasn't sure if I would be able to cheer for Cam Newton, but he was fun to watch. My parents have had these seats ever since the stadium opened back in the mid 90's.

Fast forward a bit to New Years Eve back in NYC. We went to one of my favorite restaurants for dinner. They had a very interesting NYE menu. Half of the items were meals last meals requested by deathrow inmates. The other half of the menu was over-the-top decadent food. Here I am eating my appetizer: cheetos and coke. for my entree I had black bass with oysters, fingerling potatoes roasted in lobster butter, and whipped feta. I definitely got to experience both sides of the menu

We went over to a friend's place for the ball drop. They have this fantastic poster hanging in their living room

    Mqsks.jpg

On Monday I went over to a friend's place in Manhattan to watch Georgia's bowl game vs. Michigan State. That one didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped, but a few rounds of flip cup made me feel better about it

Finally, a little Christmas present to myself: new snowboard bindings. Hopefully I will get the chance to break these in this weekend, which should provide for some good pics

  17. Yeah, I don't know what's with the lack of posts (although I haven't exactly been flooding the thread, at least I've posted!)

Perhaps I'll shoot some PM's to the other contest members and get them to provide some content. Hopefully it's just the holidays that have people MIA

  18. Here's a little photo update of the past 2 days:

Left NYC for North Carolina yesterday to visit my folks for Christmas. Had a nice view of Manhattan from the plane

Last year when I was home we got a little snow storm so I went sledding with my cousins. Unfortunately that adventure turned out to be the end of my first pair of Ande's. I ripped them pretty good in a sledding crash. I left them at my folks' house, but never took final pics, so I snapped a few shots of them yesterday. Grifter 001's.

  19. Is everyone in the contest on SUFU?

No, a handful (maybe 5?) are non sufu-ers that got a pair of the comeback jeans. I'm not even sure if they are aware of contest aspect, though Ande said he would fill them in if they were interested in joining
