  1. I think it was entertainment that asked the question, does the original 201's from the 1890's have flimsy 2 piece buttons? I was able to see and photograph about 8 pairs of 201's from the 1890's, while I was in Japan(they all had those flimsy 2 piece buttons just like the LVC repros)

I was asking about the Knappaves and the early duck repros with the sewn on buttons, but it is reassuring to hear that the 201s have the two piece buttons. Even though the 201s might have had cheaper, lower quality buttons, it is nice to know there is a precedent for the flimsy two piece ones. I'd love to see the pictures.

  2. Hmm im supposed to be no. 7 and he hasn't given me his paypal email yet. Communication with him has been a bit slow. Maybe its because i'm ordering more items and he's settling the natural oak bark belts first.

lazybum, the paypal address is on his website at the bottom of the price list page.

BTW, I am the much discussed #6 on the queue. Will definitely post pics. I already bought a brown belt similar to yours, Mike. It is really a beauty. I have been wearing it every day since I got it.

  3. $150 = wholesale

    $275 = retail

On a side note, I was in SENY a month or two ago wearing my ROYs and the person working that day ( I won't name names) asked me what kind they were. He had never heard of ROY jeans so I showed him the website. He could have been being sneaky but I don't think so.

  4. By the way has anybody gotten any further updates from Terry?

I got his reply about my queue number and that he will have to update me about the buckles. But he has not responded to my reply to that since i emailed him 6 days ago.

I figured that he might have been busy with all the orders and stuff or that maybe he was only going to reply me when he got hold of the new buckles, so i thought that I shouldn't hurry him unnecessarily. But I also had a question in the email not related to the belt too so i'm wondering if he might have missed my email or something.

He sent me pics of the buckles a few hours ago, so he should be getting in touch with you soon.

Hot soak, cold soak or should I wear them a little while?

Normally I would soak unsanforized denim, but the Kurabo denim on my Knappaves and Oldest Oldest wasn't affected much by soaking-almost no shrinkage and no leg twist. The denim did lose its stiffness though, so I think airfrog's advice is good: just wear them raw.

But is this Cone denim? Didn't Paul say that all the denim unsanforized denim would be made in usa? If it is Cone, this denim might react differently to water, so my advice might not apply.

Made in Turkey? What's up with that?

  6. I can post close ups a little later. On sizing. I am about a 39 to 40in chest and I went with a 38 on this. John said these should shrink an inch in the chest. I can post measurements a little bit later as well.

Thanks! Went to ebay to buy one and my size was sold out. Your fit pics convinced me to buy it. Hope there will be a restock.

  7. That is far easier said than done.

No matter if the business is a small family run operation (like us) or a big mega corporation (like Best Buy) what you're suggesting is very hard.

Even a company like J.Crew or Best Buy can't do this, they have one or multiple shipping fulfillment centers and if the center is sold out you can't buy the product, but you can go into one of their stores to buy it.

It goes beyond the logistics of just adding product to the online store from another location, trust me, i wish it was simpler.

We do our best to make sure the phone order process is as simple and quick as possible, and each store is on AIM if you don't want to call under SelfEdgeNY and SelfEdgeLA.

Here is a recent article from the New York Times about how Nordstrom is able to do what Cents of Non Cents wants SE to be able to do. But Nordstrom seems to be the only store in the country with this ability.

  8. FYI - The new Lightening "All About Vintage Denim" has to be one of the best vintage denim resource books to come out in a long time. Worth it at any price.

$16.65 at Kinokuniya. Lots and lots of coverage of lesser known brands.

Here is a photo of a spread from it that I just posted on the Jeans of the Old West thread showing Mike Harris and some of his collection:

  9. I was in Kinokuniya yesterday and picked up a copy of a new issue of Lightning called "All About Vintage Denim." I got on the train and cracked it open and there on one of the first pages were pictures of Mike and his wife. At least, I think so, since all the text is in Japanese. Several spreads of items from his collection too, including shots of some items he has shared with us on this thread. Great issue in general.

  10. Today I had a talk with a salesman/agent from Edwin and he told me that he had never heard of a link between Edwin and Lee. He was from the Europe division of Edwin though. And we had a talk about this and almost got into an argument. Bottomline is, now I have to e-mail him some documentation along with some pics of my jeans, and if I'm right he'll give me a really nice pair of Edwin jeans - although I'm not really into Edwin generally.

So where do I get this information? I looked on the tags of my Lee 55's (from Speedway) and there where no evidence of them being made by Edwin.

I am looking for some speedy help here fellas.

Managed to find this after some searching:
