  1. As an addendum to my last post, I should mention that these have not stretched past the original waist measurement. They are now just a fraction of an inch under that measurement. But the material has a lot of give to it which makes the waist seem slightly looser compared to some other jeans I have with similar measurements.

  2. So the fit is somewhere in the 47/66 slim not skinny area? I think these are my next pair.

Yes, but the seat is more fitted.

They are very similar to a pair of 09 47s, except for not being anti-fit. I went up one inch in the waist on mine. Long term I will probably be fine, but right now (after stretching) they are a little loose, especially in the front. Next time I will try TTS.

    Nevertheless, great jeans.

  3. Check out the ROy thread. INteresting discussion on that.

I think that discussion on polycore versus cotton thread on the ROY thread prompted my comment. But using linen thread is something I have been wondering about. Given that early Levi's used linen thread I have wondered why no one has revived the practice of using it (AFAIK). Since linen is a stronger fiber than cotton, using linen would seem to allow authenticity without being so prone to breakage. Perhaps it is hard to work with though. I'm sure it is more expensive. I was just kidding when I suggested that LVC use it. I know that it will never happen. Perhaps one of the Japanese makers will though if one hasn't already.

PS Paul, after being berated by rnrswitch for not putting ROY in all caps, I see that you have reached a compromise and put the "O" in caps but not the "y".

  4. Also, here in America we don't borrow stuff from workers, we fucking take it man, just like we stole their pensions and just like we will steal their social security benefits, I will steal their style and most definitely their denim.

rnrswitch, you crack me up. Could I quote this in my sufu signature?

  5. I've bought a few things from aeroleather, things that cultizm didn't stock. They were always very responsive and helpful by email and the shipping on jeans and shirts is usually 25 pounds not the 50 pounds that they say on the website. On the other hand, if cultizm does have the item, they are usually quicker and cheaper.

  6. Which buckle is the one Paul worked on? I had the 1 1/4 inch one and found it not very useful. It got all bent up the first time I used it. I think when I bought it they weren't making a 1 inch version.

    It's the one inch version.

  7. airfrog-

Thanks for leading us all to River Junction in the first place for the replacement buckles.

I was also wondering if you were getting much wear into your Knappaves. I only get to wear mine on the weekends (along with my ducks) so it is going to be years before they break. But they are such beautiful repros, I always look forward to wearing them.

  8. ^Paul, how did you replace the buckle on the strap? Did you take apart the stitching and restitch or take apart the buckle, slip it through, and recrimp it?

The jeans look great with the new buckle.

  9. I watched a Buster Keaton movie recently called Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928). One of the characters wears a shirt with asymmetrical pockets very similar to the LVC one. There is something in the little pocket, but I couldn't tell what it was. It was shiny. Could have been a packet of tobacco or even a notebook. Unfortunately, he never pulled it out.

I'll try to post an image soon.

  10. I have the Sunset chambray shirt. I agree with rnrswitch, the fit on that model is wrong. Look at the shoulders. They are much too narrow. And the arms are too short, of course. I bought a large. My shirt size is 15.5x34. The fit for me is pretty standard, not too baggy, not too fitted. I am pretty tall and slender too. 6'2", 170 lbs.

The one thing I should mention is that the fabric is beautiful. Really dark indigo threads and some interesting defects, what I have seen called "loom chatter" though I may be wrong on the terminology. The material seems more like vintage chambray than a lot of the Japanese chambray I have seen which often seems too "wabi-sabi" to me.

The one thing I don't like about it is that the sleeves are fairly wide. Probably an authentic cut, but it still feels strange to me.

But I do feel a lot of love for this shirt. I just wish summer hadn't arrived, so I could keep wearing it.

  11. Then go up to the next size up and wear a belt. They are full cut anyway. I would get exact measurements though first. These newer models are running larger than the older ones.

I consider the size info that cultizm publishes only a guide to which sizes I should ask for actual measurements for. I am constantly surprised by what they turn out to be. Airfrog's advice is spot on.

  12. I have a writer friend called Andy Gill. Noticed he was friend of a friend on facebook (I know) so put a request in. Was surprised to get note about upcoming gig, had no clue he played any instrument. Checked out his page. D'oh!

    "The problem of leisure,

    What to do for pleasure."

That seemed to summarize superfuture for me.
