Uh Oh, alcoholicallynice, that's awfully cute. You're going to have to step up your own tyke's outfits to keep up. Do they make the Mullholland in child's sizes? Maybe less money on beer & smokes and more on high-end kinder clothing?

Speaking of which, riff, looking good. Inheritance come in?

Dkatz- I always enjoy your photos and stories. I think you're tied for "most photogenic" with this one^^.

  2. question to Roy6 about the hunting jacket; what size did you get and how does it compare to your usual size? is it sized small or normal? Im usually a size small in Levis tops but can t find size small ,the measurements for size medium (38) are pretty small though...

SLAB- i usually wear a size 40 in most tops, and I bought a 40 in the LVC Japan jacket. It fits fine. I don't know if this jacket is preshrunk or not, though, probably the Rakuten site tells, but in Japanese. I'm going to try to never wash it.

Rufio- the type III does have widely cut arms and a slim cut body. At least, vintage & LVC ones do.

  3. Tonight my jeans and I went to an art opening.

This extremely well-dressed homeless guy is at all the openings at this place, and puts a serious dent in the snacks and cheap red wine. He was wearing a nice vintage-looking mohair peacoat.

This guy gave an unsolicited twenty minute harmonica jam, then a free lecture on 9/11 conspiracy theory. He also suggested I pay him for taking his picture (I didn't).

This guy was actually quite handsome and seemed completely normal until the girl he was with looked away for a split second.

    Some art.

    Some fashion.

This picture of me isn't so great, but just as it was taken a hipster girl was walking by with a group of drunken friends, and she pointed at me and said, in this very deliberate and matter of fact tone, "rockabilly". Her friends filed past and looked at me blurily and slightly bored, the way you would look at the not very interesting animals at the zoo.

  4. What about 'trigger happy', included is an inflatable moose skull, a compass and four cases of Coors. Price: $1873.00

.. and Mr. 6, you do have waay too much time on your hands, maybe you could photoshop an entire Lvc catalogue range?

    .

Don't tempt me. I already see a "stumpy" 37-501, and a "rope burns" 20s golfshirt,

  5. I like jacket, and as much as I appreciate it being named after me, we need something tacky like they do with the pre-distressed jeans (Guts for Garters, Rootless, Pitchfork, Touched, etc). Unfortunately I'm not quick enough to come up with something smart off the top of my head.

So, how much are we going to tack onto the price tag for that "wash" Roy? Worth at least an extra $300, don'tcha think?

    How about "Lefty"?

I think it should retail for about $650US. Each one comes with spent shotgun shells and realistically blood-soaked 1870s Levi's selvedge jean cuff (used as tourniquet).

No jinx, by the way, Setterman.

  6. Setterman, the expression on your dog's face in that picture is priceless. You have to love their single-mindedness, and the way they barely tolerate you when you get in the way.

So the kind of hunting jacket we're talking about here is intended to carry a lot of stuff while being as unobtrusive as possible? That makes sense- the LVCJ hunting jacket isn't very warm at all, especially with the open underarm seams and fairly open, high buttoned front. Good to know it won't be a drag on my arms when I finally pull out that shotgun.

I wonder if we have a washed model to look forward to from LVC- the "birdhunter", with bloodstains soaked through the front or rear pouches, briar rips on the body, and a cleverly reproduced shotgun blast taking out one shoulder.

  7. Dr_, I'll pass on the duck pants. I have a pile of jeans that should last me a couple years already. That's the good thing about jackets- you don't

necessarily have to wear them for a year before they start looking really good, and so aren't such a commitment. Or so I think.

1873? Weird, I wonder if there isn't some LVC disconnect on the duck hunting jacket models. It doesn't seem likely that the outfit would have changed so dramatically in one year. I thought somehow that the suit you have was a later model, from the very early 1900s, and the Japanese 1874 model was an earlier version of the same basic item?

I've seen an order sheet for the F/W LVC stuff, and saw an entry for a "1874" hunting jacket, I thought they were reproducing the LVC Japan jacket, but maybe they were referring to your model?

I'm pretty thoroughly confused now. Which came first?

At any rate, thanks again for the photos. The vest is amazing.

Setterman- thanks for the explanation of some of the hunting jacket features. I'd have thought the whole thing would be a lot bloodier. How different are modern hunting jackets from the 1873 models? I;m sure they use different materials, goretex and whatnot, but is the basic cut similar to these old Levi's jackets?

  8. Here's the pics of the waistcoat -

Of all the duck pieces I've seen, I think this vest is maybe my favorite so far. Thanks hee- um, Dr_Heech, for posting all of those. I'd never seen the vest before.

Was there any note of the year model your set was based on?

  9. @Roy6

Here are some pics of the jacket (I also have pics of the waistcoat and pants). These were made in SF at the old factory around 2001.

Thanks Heech, that looks sharp. I have to say I prefer the color on your repro to the 1874 model. Interesting that there is only one button high on the chest.

The description is also interesting, maybe because I've never hunted: I was wondering what the large rear pockets on the back of the 1874 model were for, and my bf opined that they were for holding prey. I'm afraid I laughed at him. "What, for stuffing bloody little carcasses into and walking around with the bodies banging into your back and bleeding through your coat? Yeah, right."

    Oops. City folk.

    I didn't know there was a waistcoat- let's see?

SLAB- the Japanese Ebay seller starts his jackets at $330US, you can also still get size 38 jackets from Rakuten for around $430.

  10. ROy, the jacket looks far easier to wear than you'd think, altho it could of course be your impossible cool that carries it off?

I'll wash the cotton duck bag tonite.

Paul, you had a typo, "implausible" is spelled like this. When you tried the jumper on, did you remind yourself of your favorite Oki Ni model? Seriously though, was it too baggy, like in that you'd feel uncomfortable wearing it?

AFUSMC, there are actually three more large pockets with leather straps sewn into the inside back of the jacket. And you might get your wish come fall.

  11. All that detailing with the cute riveted pockets and leather straps is so over the top, very reminiscent of Mr Freedom.

My only problem with owning one would be locating bus tickets/ tub pass etc in all those pockets. I would lose several hours per day. I know my time is not valuable, but still.

Paul, I was thinking the same thing re: Mr. Freedom. This jacket does have that kind of stylized, hyper-detailed feel to it that MF does so well. Except no plaid or denim peeking from a pocket or lapel.

Fardin, yeah, I wish the Doc would post a fit pic in his duck jacket. I've seen pictures of that model, but only kind of shapeless ebay shots, not worn. And Heech wears things so well...

  12. pomata,SS,mattes, I've been lusting after this jacket for a long time too. You know how sometimes you really want something and then get it and the fit is just somehow off? That happens a lot with LVC stuff, but not this time!

Really interesting cut, especially when buttoned up properly. Still a bit wrinkly from shipping, though. From yesterday:

    4473762048_9fa8a47c24_o.jpg

It did come from the bay, from seller kendokobayashi. I think he has another one up now, and the price is good. About $100US (about 74 euros) less than getting it new from Rakuten would cost.

There is a chance that this jacket will be available from the new consolidated LVC this fall, but I'll bet it will cost more then.

  13. Thanks, Fardin. I've been making a lot of trips to the p.o. box, waiting for this to come in, so was really stoked when it showed up on Saturday.

I kinda expected it to be baggier too- more like a sack coat, but it's actually pretty trim. I usually wear a size 40, and this hunting jacket is a 40 and fits just fine in all dimensions. Kind of astounding for a LVC product!

    riff- those Aldens look perfect.
