Alright Paul! So glad you finally came to your senses. Yeah, let's see a fit pic.
A photo of an original Levi's cf duck jumper -labeled "1890s(?)"- from a '90s Japanese mag:

Originally imbedded elsewhere by Beatle, but it seems more appropriate here.

What a bitch. You disgust me.
Good! I'm sure I'll be similarly overcome with loathing if you ever get off your lazy ass and post your ROY ducks.

Dont want to answer for the man, but -

Dr_Heech is exactly right- that's where I got my jacket. They also have it on Rakuten, but only size 38 left, and more expensive:

These are so cool! Roy, I'm gonna have to ask you which art stores and galleries to check out next time I'm in S.F.
Absolutely- let me know when you're coming.
The artist you quoted, Eric Joyner, was one of my favorites of that day. My photos didn't do him justice- I was photographing color prints of his oil paintings. The paintings are huge, and have a lot of impact. I didn't feel comfortable photographing the dudes paintings and the putting them on the internet, though.
This is the flyer he was handing out:

Ha!- I was planning on taking pictures today at lunch. So-
LVC Japan 1874 duck hunting jacket:
Someone on the LVC thread (SLAB?) said this would be good for carrying around photography equipment, and he was so right. I usually wear this when I take my good camera out of the house with extra lenses & chips in the pockets.

Dark...
Alden, LVC, Gap tee no viz, Buzz x Gibson
I was just about to write you and say that I was ready to deal with your Icon jacket, and here comes the Gibson X Buzz (and the proper Cayce Pollard MA-1, no less), so forget it.
Tigerprawn- thanks.

^of course, I do need a wig but I can't find one that looks good.
When you do, please include it in a fit pic.

Like runormal said, the new '54 501 has a Talon zipper, and also the new 551zxx(!). I hadn't noticed that LVC was making a new zxx until I started looking for zippers. They both look really nice.
My bad, I mistook the '67 505 for a '63 551. It does have a Talon zipper, though.

hey roy what hair? mine or his? nice pics though...
Yours. Please tell me you wear a Ramone wig when you play.

A pleasure meeting you....rock on:D
Likewise. You & Youngpunch were best conversations of the evening. How did "best dressed woman" pan out?

I hope ROY doesn't feel like I started this whole "one off" craze. "Hey dude can you make me this, but with this and that, instead of what you actually make?" He probably don't care. It is what sets him apart from others.
I see what you're saying- I got the feeling from talking to Roy that he essentially offers what he offers, which is at this point the denim 5-pocket jean, period. Lucky you to be a cotton duck Guinea pig.
I don't know how me at an SE party would turn out though. I believe I burnt that bridge a long time ago. Maybe next year I will show up incognito and shit. My name tag will read, "rmrswitch." They will never know it is me.Oh yeah? What'd you do?

Pomata, what's with the hair? Not looking very Ramonsey.
From Yesterday. Randomly ran into Beatle, Dick Danger and some other Sufuers whose screen names I don't know at Union-Made, but sadly didn't have my camera. Also met Youngpunch, B-dawg and a a lot of other folks at the Selfedge party, but again, no camera.
In between, I went to SF Open Studios and saw a lot of really great local artists. Sorry, my urban landscape pics aren't nearly so nice as -Z-s.
View in Hunter's Point.
Ditto.
Eric Joyner (sorry for glare).
Ditto.
Yong Han.
Ditto.

^^Hey Roy, nice meeting you at the SE party last night! I also didn't know the other ROY (the one who makes cool jeans) was there...I'm definitely looking forward to your pics of his workshop!
Youngpunch, great to meet you too! Especially since you and your buds were some of the few not too stoned or drunk to carry on a decent conversation. Not naming names, just saying.

Dude, if you are going to buy a pair you should see if you could take some pics of ROY making your jeans. Doesn't he just live on the other side of the BAY? Do it. Do it. I fucking dare you. You little nancy boy.
As it turns out, ROY and I were both at the Selfedge party last night, but I didn't know he was there until afterwards, so didn't connect with him face to face.
I did talk to him at length on the phone today, though. He seemed a bit reluctant at first to let me take pictures of his studio, but after talking it over for a bit he is into the idea. Not during active production time, though.
So after my jeans are finished, probably about a week, I'll head over to Oakland and see the place, talk to ROY, and take photos.
I'm primarily interested in the machinery, so I'll be asking him and looking mostly at that, and in particular his chainstitching machine. If anyone is interested in some other particular aspect of his operation, let me know before next week and I'll look into that too.
rnrswitch, do you always get what you want?

Really?
They now make a 551zxx and a 501zxx? Surprising but cool anyway. Did they have a date? i.e 1963?
Youre gonna have to take the camera and go back to the shop and get some zipper model pics now Lol
.
Dr_Heech, they definitely had two different zippered models, but I may be mistaken about one being the 551, as I didn't realize the 501 models also had the "zxx" label. I'm about 80% sure.
Runormal, why don't you go in and take some pictures? I think the Unionmade guys might be getting sick of me coming in to take pics and not buying anything! (Joke- they are actually supernice.)
LVC does have a strange distribution model- I didn't know they were making the spring-bottoms in this run until the Farinelli's link popped up, and the altered '55s are a surprise to me too.

I think this ad sums up what the "lighter blues" line was all about. I kind of like these jeans- they certainly are different from most of LVC's offerings, and I kind of dig the baggy '50s dad cut.

cheers rnrswitch.
Thanks for that, always wondered why I never saw another talon zip on the 551z.
The very limited Japanese edition of the 501z (the forebearer of the 551z) from years ago had a gripper zipper, does anybody know what zipper they use on the current lvc 501z?
.
Do you mean the 54s? I was looking at a pair of 54s from the 2010 line yesterday which had a Talon zipper. Hope that helps!Like runormal said, the new '54 501 has a Talon zipper, and also the new 551zxx(!). I hadn't noticed that LVC was making a new zxx until I started looking for zippers. They both look really nice.

Geez, don't make me cry. I'll see what I can do.

For ease of comparison:
I was wondering if the label were loose on that original, and they placed it higher for the photo, but I went back and looked at that interview with Lynn Downey on A Continuous Lean, and they show the duck jacket also with the funny, high neck tag.
