If you could make three suggestions to the "brass" at LVC, what would they be? Mine are as follows:

1. Shift all production to the US

2. Move away from the pre-distressed stuff and offer more "deadstock" finishes (especially in the non-denim pieces)

3. Make another Stanley Mouse sweatshirt!!!

1. Make the sizing consistent*.

2. Reestablish their connection with Aero (or another high-quality leather workshop- Langlitz? Eastman?).

3. Shift all production back to the US.

* I recently talked to a friend who worked at LVC some years ago and mentioned the sizing thing. She said something along the lines of "Oh, that's on purpose! We want the customer to get a vintage-style fit." I see what she means, but LVC doesn't get mildly under or over-sizing right. They're way to extreme. What's wrong with making a 32W jean that actually won't fall off of or tourniquet the waist of an actual 32W individual?

Opinions vary here. They were a tad slimmer than the 50's models (apparently) but although that may be true (according to Lynn), IMHO the cut is slimmer than originals I once owned. Also I had alot more lemon thread on mine (another debatable area). The pockets are out of whack too. But people here love 'em.

Sympathy is right though, the 44's are more true to the 40's shape than the 47's.

I remember reading that there was a downsizing trend in the '40s, and I've seen pics of returned WWII vets tooling around on motorcycles in skin tight jeans. I guess this is LVC's way of trying to reproduce the fit of downsized '40s jeans?

I do love them though, historically accurate or not. I'm wearing a pair of '47s right now.

if you want an authentic 1940s 501 i´d rather go with 44s, they fit how the 47s should and yes the denim is incredible...

So the LVC '47 isn't a typical late '40s cut for Levis? Did LVC fudge the details for some reason?

I've been looking at the 1936 Type I LVC from the new collection and asked the guys from Cultizm what the measurements were. Here's a big surprise:

Size M

Chest: 24â€

Shoulders : 19.25â€

Length: 25â€

Shoulder to cuff: 26â€

They are HUGE! In past, I've bought a L and it had pretty much the same measurements as the M.

Rivethead, are those Cultizm measurements for a rigid or a pre-distressed version? I got out an old 555 type I and measured it just now:

Size M

Chest 22.5"

Shoulder 19"

Length 23"

Shoulder-cuff 24"

When I got it it was still rigid, and fit like a large, probably right around the Cultizm measurements. After a wash and dry, it's a pretty solid medium.

Fryes do get some hate around here, but that doesn't mean they aren't stylish boots and somewhat worth the price one pays for them. I have a couple pairs and I have gotten plenty of love out of them.

Yep. I've noticed people tend to not like them 'til they see a nice broken in pair. They wear well.

When are those '44s with the lilac painted arcuates from? Was it a single season of LVC Europe/USA? I don't mind the color- something different from the usual.

What you do is:

1- preheat your oven to WARM or about 200'F.

2- roll your tv into the kitchen, place it facing the oven, and qeue up some really trashy television series like One Tree Hill (or if you're a Brit, Hexed or Torchwood).

3- open the door, face away from the oven, and bend over, putting your palms flat on the floor.

4- walk your legs up the oven door and into the oven, keeping palms on floor.

5- gradually work your legs into the oven, ending up with your legs in lotus position, your waist flush with the plane of the oven door.

6- begin to watch television, fall into a stupor, and come to 3 hours later with perfectly dried and fitted jeans.

i think i will go the "hardcore" route and heaten up my house to almost a 100 degrees, fill the tub and wear them till dry

if nothing goes wrong i am willing to post pictures,... otherwise i maybe have won a "free-ride" to the hospital,... it´s fxxxxxg cold around here

You won't regret it. It's amazing what a difference wearing them to dry makes- they'll look like you've been wearing them for a month or so, right off the bat.

Chinos look good but I'm a little worried they'll be too full cut; anyone who can provide a comparison between them and a different LVC model?

I went back into Unionmade this weekend, and they were nice enough to allow me to take some shots of the chinos (thanks Jason!).

The first shot is slightly fore-shortened- the flare and taper is not as extreme as it look here, but it is pretty dramatic. The second shot is a comp with a '47 of the same size (32W) at the thigh and upper knee.

I looked through Paul's 501 guide, and I guess the closest 501 model would be the '33 or '37? But with the thighs and knees cut slightly wider and the lower legs tapering in.

These chinos also seem to be an inch or more over-sized at the waist.

The wash is actually quite nice, no weird overly-dramatic whiskers or fades. They look pretty much like heavily used and laundered chinos. Very soft, I'll bet they're hella comfortable. I didn't let myself try them on.

Riff, those should be perfect post soak. You going to wear them to dry?

You guys could have at least picked up your empties- this place is torn up. I can see four or five Shine Bock bottles on the ground here, and a couple of Becks. There are two bottles of Taddy Porter sitting on the windowsill, and- Jesus- like twenty-five or thirty broken Jever Pils bottles all over the street. What the hell?

Since I'm such a nice guy, I cleaned up after you slobs. There was a recycle bin like twenty feet away, and inside I found six neatly stacked Sierra Nevada bottles. Well done, Gaijin.

Unionmade has the chinos. They look really good. Great color. Didn't try them on, as I bought something else from the new season, so no more $$ and didn't want to whine pathetically when I had to deny myself.

They are the model with the front button under a belt strap.

The jacket looks great. Really interesting consturction with the wasit seam at the back. VIntage items get washed, so what! YOu're up early almostice, are you feeling a bit grouchy?

A good fit on the 33 too, better than mine were, how did you size? And where are Brixton made? Tweed?

Thanks, Paul! The '33s are tagged 31 (my true size) and shrank down to under thirty when I soaked them. I had to wear them wet and do a lot of stretching at the waist. Like you've noted in your 5011 guide, the older models have plenty of leg room, so I took a chance and tried down-sizing.

Brixton is a sort of surfer-style company from southern California. They do a lot of embarrassing Justin Timberlake-style skimpy brim fedoras, but they also do a few really nice looking vintage style caps. This one's clever- it looks like wool, even up close, but it's just poly-cotton.

Don't mind assiduouslynice, he knows how I like it. Though I think I am drawing a line in the sand at Elton John.

Anyone know the Price of these looking to pick up

Just so happens I just stopped into Unionmade in SF and they had their new batch of LVC in, including that jacket. It was $900 something, I think. It runs a size large- I usually wear a medium and the small fit me quite comfortably.

They also had the rusty Bay Meadows T, the sunset shirt, and 1915s, '47s, '66s and an interesting destroyed & repaired '33.

Damn, ambulatoriallynice, good denim really does get more play in Europe, doesn't it. I hardly ever see anyone wearing any interesting jeans around here. Diesel & AmericanEagle, mostly.

From my experience the 551 is a of a mix between the 501 '55 and '66, which makes sense, as the 551 is between the two years. But it is a bit closer to the '66 though, if you really have to compare the models.

My 551 doesn't have a Talon zipper unfortunately. They have a no-name zipper that is kinda flimsy.
