  1. Has link??

    yeah, here you go:

That was an epic party, i won't even get into what happened, i'll let the photos do the talking.

    To be posted shortly...

Also, we had pro-style-fancy video shot of the event, should be out August 1st.

Edit: Undercover cops, not a good look for anybody.

  2. Isn't it bad luck to put a worn pair of shoes on a table or bed?

i thought i was putting a hat on a bed that was bad luck. does that apply to chairs too?

oh, to stay on topic... nice roy boots!

i stopped in the allen edmonds store today (i was randomly walking by) and wasn't impressed. they aren't much cheaper than aldens, so i see no reason to not just go for aldens.

  3. Some pictures from yesterday's party...

i was wondering how the band was going to be able to set up inside (it's a small shop) so it makes sense that it was out front.

sorry i didn't get a chance to stop by, looks like it was a big success. congrats!

saw kira post about undercover cops... wtf!?! they have nothing better to do with undercover cops??? <facepalm>

  4. Skate nerds rejoice...

    DEATH BOWL TO DOWNTOWN (2008)

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SX2LYM07

It's a documentary about the history of New York City skateboarding.

holy crap. this is amazing, i grew up with most of these people. i'm like halfway through watching and keep expecting to see myself in the background of the shots.

please show the photos... im a total skate nerd... anything is appriciated.

i don't have any pics but will try to take some this weekend if i can get down to the basement and dig some of the decks out of my storage bin.

  5. this thread makes me feel old (i'm 39)

i started screwing around on skateboards as a kid in the mid 70s, got serious at 12 years old (1982, 1983?) first board was a neil blender fiber-lam. rode lots of stuff, my favorites being SMA and shut skates.

got into long boards in 88 or so, and never really went back. my main longboard is a G&S fiber flex, but i pretty much stopped skating 5 years ago cause i would get gnarly old-man injuries whenever i fell and it was interfering with my martial arts training.

as for shoes, it was all about vans when i started, then the first air jordans came out and everyone wanted to skate in them. i always liked my basic vans sk8 hi, always did the trick for me. eventually i got into the mark gonzalez shoes from adidas, and was pretty loyal to those for a few years then there was some BS and i couldn't find them anymore. maybe they are back making them.

my heros: neil blender, bill danforth, lance mountain, chris miller, natas kaupas, and mark gonzales

i should shoot some photos of some of my old decks though, might be good for a laugh.

  6. you just gotta look in the right places

for example, you can get a breakfast set at matsuya. Just don't get the sausage combo breakfast.

there's a plenty of organic food / vegan-ish places popping up.

    you just gotta look

thanks for the advice. i usually stay on the tokyo geidai campus in ueno, every may, as i teach a class there every golden week. next year i will try to do my homework in advance.

    is anyone going to this?

    http://www.audiotokyo.com/artists/

    Electromusic fest

I'm fucking tired of going to Roppongi just to nanpa some hos

Combine, unit, air, aoyama hachi, and etc will do

once the rain season is over. i need to go to ageha.

i would go to that to see my friends (force of nature and doc martin) and also see dj krush. i think tokyo gets a lot of great electronic music coming through, it pays to keep an eye out.

  7. wish I would have read this sooner...just got back from eating some dinner in yoyogi-uehara and could have walked down to shimokitazawa.

I'm still unsure about going to Yokohama. Going to see what all I get done in Tokyo proper in the next few days and then decide. I'm here until the 19th.

Basically I'm wandering around by myself, speak/read no japanese, and often have no idea what I'm doing really. That means eating is the most difficult thing...but also the most fun. Just lucky everyone is so nice, even if we can't understand each other at all and I have to be shown where to put my yakitori skewers when I'm done with them, ha.

Pointing and saying "Kore o kudasai" has worked pretty well so far.

i have a really rough time there with food, because i have a diet that is totally incomprehensible to most japanese people (well most anyone really) in that i don't eat any meat (including broth, lard, etc.) although i do eat some sorts of fish. i pretty much get stuck with eating sushi, soba and japalian the whole time i am there. oh and breakfast at dennys, i live on that.

japan would be a lot easier for me if i ate meat.

  8. Then you'd have loads of money to buy all the denim you could possibly want. Sadly though you'd be sporting a suit every day and have no time to wear it! Life can be a cruel mistress.

over 70% of the dry bones store clothes were suits and related wear (shirts, dress shoes, etc.) a lot has a rockabilly vibe, but i think i could rock about 1/2 of it at a hedge fund job.

i mostly just hate that kind of work, though so i don't want to do it. have to get rich some other way.

  9. shoestop.jpg

They look like Trickers Ascot (which no longer are made in brown). The sizing system looks similar (heck, even the handwriting looks similar to my Trickers), and the rounded (some say blobby) front toe gives it away. Not to be mistaken for the C&J Clifford with the chisel toe.

    got my reply from trickers:

Having examined the photos we are 90% sure that they are indeed a pair of Tricker`s classic brogues called Epsom, which we still make today.

    good eye, indigo junkie.

thanks for the feedback. i emailed the pics to trickers and asked if they could ID them. i definitely like my aldens better though. want to get some aldens in brown as well, maybe a medallion toe model, in shell if i can swing it.

  11. so i have some more shoes to add to the thread, both pairs that i got in the 80's and which have aged well:

    1) cowboy boots. got these in the late 80s on a trip to corpus christie, texas, to help my dad install a sculpture show. we decided to get boots together. they're by nocona, and are bullhide.

recently i pulled them out of the closet after a good 10 years in there and brought them back to life with several coats of obenhauf's. once i determined they weren't going to fall apart, i gave them to my local cobbler to replace the rubber end heels.

    bootst.jpg

    2) brown wing tips. i got these in 1986 with my stepdad (a man who knows shoes. his are all custom made, i need to photograph some of his for this place, but that'll be another day.) he spotted these and told me that i needed some "real shoes" and told me to use shoe horns with them (i listened, and that's why they are still around.) they don't have a brand that i can see but are marked "made in england" and have some hand written numbers that might be a clue as to what they are. they are fully leather lined as well (which surprised me.) pulled these out and restored them along with the cowboy boots. i had gotten these new heels sometime in the past so i didn't need to send them to the cobbler.

  12. ah yes. a 2000 No.1 is what everybody needs.

    good deal!

indeed! best jeans i've ever owned. i'll have to force myself to start to rotate in the others in a couple of months, but for now it's 2000 no.1 every day.

So many pairs of 2000s on the go now...any updates off anyone?

i don't think any fading will show at this point in photos, maybe in a month i'll post update pics.

  13. I'm going to NYC this coming week and I wanted to try on some 1955 501's. The only place I know of that carries LVC is Brooklyn Denim Co. Does anyone know where else I can find it?

    Thanks

the j crew men's store on broadway, and barney's co-op have some LVC as well.

  14. too many pairs:

    evisu no.1 2000

    samurai black knights

    pbj008

    uniqlo MIJ regualr fit

dickies black carpenter jeans that i got in 1999

    vans black jeans

and 5 pairs of crappy modern era levis of various cuts that i don't wear unless i'm painting something, working on an engine or doing something that would get me covered in motor oil, etc.

so that's 11 pairs of jeans, i only really wear 3 pairs, and right now cause the evisu's are fairly new (purchased in may) they are getting wear every day in order to break them in. maybe i should give away all but one of the levis to make room in my closet.

  15. i tend to agree with geneticdrifter on the expectation of quality, but disagree about naming fictional connections to other brands.

i bought alden factory seconds, and am very happy with them, but i knew i was getting shoes with a defect. someone should have caught that issue and put those boots on the factory seconds list and sent you a different pair.

IMHO, you need to contact alden and they should be willing to make this right, which should include some sort of freebie or coupon for a discount off of a future purchase... something to show that they care about your business.
