  1. I might do a hot wash.. but I don't like the dryer.. it messes up the leather patch.. at least from my experience

the instructions that came with my pair said to wet the patch before the dryer and then again halfway through the drying cycle, and that would stop it from getting damaged, and they were right.

oh and my selvedge is that black with silver thread type.

  2. I've been going to Minas Shoe Repair (which mizanation recommended a ways back) and he's pretty good, I have a similar situation going on with a pair I have, I'm going to take them in and see what's going on with them.

went to minas, they said that they can't "fix" the crack, but that they will condition it and treat the leather so that i should be able to get another year or two out of the shoes.

    not bad. thanks guys!

  3. Not exactly shot, but looks like the potential to get worse. It's just a matter of the epidermis getting dry over the years. Any leather repairman can fix it, even when it gets worse. It's one of your favorite pairs, I would suggest that you fix it right away. If not don't worry about it.

my local shoe repair guy said there's nothing he can do, not sure if taking it to a different place will change that.

i could bring it to a place near where i work (near wall st.) as i figure the shoe repair places down there are probably quality spots.

  4. my 20+ year old trickers have developed a small crack on the outer edge of the right foot, of course, right where the ball of the foot flexes.

i saw it this morning as i was putting them on, and slapped some obenhauf's on to try to stop it from getting worse.

are they shot? i get the feeling this is one of those "not worth fixing" things.

took a quick pic but can't upload it until later this evening.

  6. so my 2000 no.1s are my first pair of jeans with lined back pockets, and the stitching holding the lining in place seems to have torn in one of the back pockets. wasn't too concerned about it at first but now it's come completely undone and my phone gets caught up in it.

is this a worthwhile repair, or should i just wait until i have to get something else repaired on them? i know self edge has a flat fee for repairs so this seems really minor for that, but this seems simple enough that just about anyone should be able to handle it. should i risk using a normal tailor (having some dress shirt sleeves shortened anyway soon, so i could get the jeans done at the same time.

  7. I keep loosing a little weight and think I need to get a smaller pair of 55's. I started with a 38, then bought a 36, now I think I need a 34. Anyone have a pair in 34 with a 38+ leg?

dude. i told you not to piss off that gypsy!

now you'll just keep getting thinner

  8. Went to the Alden store on Madison Ave - they are out of almost everything cordovan until the end of October - that being said, they had a pair of cigar Indies that I'm considering the hell out of.

is it just me, or is the madison ave store sort of a letdown? i went there to get sized before ordering from shoemart.com (no, i don't feel bad, alden still ends up with my money) and they had only the standard lasts and a very limited selection to see in person. also the guy who was working there was nice enough, but didn't seem to be an expert on the last options or sizing.

i'm thinking that moulded shoe http://mouldedshoe.com/ might be a better place to shop for aldens if you really want an expert opinion.

  9. Wonder if one can still get the 44 japanese version anymore. I have a pair that I love and would like to get another. Any ideas?

i asked around at the major tokyo denim shops looking for anything left from LVC japan, and didn't find anything, and that was in may. not saying that they can't be found, but it's going to be harder than going to, say, americaya.

  10. Just received a pair of PBJ indigo chinos from Gordon in record time; ordered Sat afternoon, in FL Mon afternoon USPS Priority. They are beautiful - as close to raw as non denim indigo stuff gets.

how did you size on them? are they shrink to fit like the BiG chinos?

  11. Do many shops around Tokyo carry size 50 (american L) stuff, or am I gonna be completely out of luck unless I'm shopping for jeans and shit?

you may be able to find some stuff, but it might be tough. in my experience, clothes labeled a medium in the US are labeled large in japan, so you should probably go up a size there. my wife ended up with a cool sweatshirt and t-shirt i got at an MMA event there, which once opened proved to be too small for me.

  12. Unrelated, but when did things change such that you "need" to get married in a tux? Buy a suit and some good shoes. Tuxedos are for the Monopoly Guy and junior prom.

yeah, i wonder about the use of a tuxedo in these times. in almost 40 years i have not had more than 1 or 2 occasions for a tux and neither was a situation where one was required.

i would say that bespoke suits and quality shoes are a much better investment these days.

sorry for the off topic bit (but i *did* mention shoes!)

  13. More Black Knight pictures! No one posts their pairs 100/101 are out there some where

i'll see if i can get mrs. ming to shoot some pics of mine, and my old skateboards (request from cheap) this weekend, if there's some sun.

  14. got some thinking to do...I may just return this tomorrow and pop for the f1.4 version, but at 4x the cost, i'm not sure its worth it for only build quality, IQ is about the same. Today I felt like this thing was going to break if I manually focused with it!

you should return it. it broke in mrs. ming's camera and we had to pay to get the lens extracted and repair the body. the lens was done for.

you get what you pay for, so go for the better lens. we are.

  15. sorry for bringing up this old thread, but wasnt sure if this warranted a new one altogether.

has anyone purchased the BiG chinos yet? i handled these in the store and they are very nicely put together. not as unique as the jungle cloth, but also half the price. unlike the jeans, this isnt a collabo with PBJ. i think the guy there said it was with Oni.

  16. I worry that they will stretch out even more and be bigger than they already are. i dunno. i guess theyd look alright with some outfits =/ gonna hold on to em til I get back to the states and see what my fiancee thinks about them.

unless you put them through a hot wash/hot dryer then you don't know how much they will shrink.

i think you got a typical japanese fit, and one size up from a typical sufu fit, which is why the salesman thought you should go for the size you did.
