  1. Has anyone around here ordered a pair of white's from their catalog?

I just got my catalog and I've been looking through it and found some things that were a little strange...

special size patterns for weird feet and such will run you an extra 175 dollars and an extra 100 dollars for boots made for you after that.

the white's semi-dress is $380 for single leather sole and $395 for vibram

shipping is based upon how much your order costs? 17 dollars for items over 300 dollars( I think that would be about right for the weight of the boots) and an additional $150 deposit will be added to the total.

that sounds a little crazy and means I'm going to need to give them a total of $547

even though its a deposit, it just sucks having to get so much money ready especially when you don't have much.

also, if you used the catalog, did you trace your foot on the included foot pattern and supply your measurements? i've always been interested in this and the possibility of a "perfect fit" from white's. So I'm wondering if it all worked out and if you think it was worth it.

the $365 they are sellin for at line gear looks more and more appealing...

i ordered a pair of whites through the catalog a couple of years back. did the foot tracings, and i guess that i'm lucky and don't have weird shaped feet, cause i didn't have to pay any extras.

they are worth every penny. don't get as much wear as i should here in nyc, but they are a perfect fit of course and should last nearly forever.

the last pair of boots i had before them was in 1989 and were a pair of dayton's (also made from measurements) and i could have just re-built those instead of buying whites, but decided to splurge.

will post some pics when i have a minute to take some, but to stay on topic, whites definitely look better with age.

  2. by washing them every month, your jeans will fade and age way more rapidly than any of the jeans worn by sufu members which are 'into the whole aging thing'.

additionally, not everybody at sufu is an anorexic kid. a lot of members are over 30 and have various body shapes.

so just post your pics if you want feedback!

if you have been lurking the forums for a while to find your first piece of quality denim, I really do not get your attitude here.

... and I always thought these anorexic california/nyc kids are rude ...

sorry, that came off as attitude. it wasn't. i may post fit pics to help others, but no promises as i am quite lazy. i was joking about kids calling me fat, but that gets lost on forums.

didn't mean to upset anyone with the fading thing. i do appreciate well faded jeans, just won't put in the same kind of effort that many people here put in. respect to those who do put in the time and get the great results. as to why i'm here? cause this is a good place for info on quality denim, that's all.

after reading a lot, i saw that many of the japanese experts have said that monthly washings will extend the life of the jeans, which is a big goal for me, i got interested in premium denim after frustrations with levis shredding on me far too quickly, so rather than trying to put anyone down i was just stating how i plan to care for these.

  3. mrs. the_ming is quite happy with a pair of somets that she picked up in tokyo a few weeks back. they are sanforized and after a soak and wearing them wet, they have stretched to be a nice fit on her, although still a bit tight in the thighs. we're hoping that they stretch a bit more over the next couple of wears.

BiG carries somet as far as i know.

  4. They dont have the premium MIJs in nyc unikro any more. I was gonna kop a pair for beaterz

i was there yesterday and they had some. 2 standing racks near the other jeans, some black, some blue, with both slim and regular cuts in each.

no idea what the frequency of this is, although i would love to know. can't buy another pair of jeans for a month or 2 but want to make a pair of these my next purchase, so if i missed out and will have to wait forever, i'll be pissed.

  5. just joined the forum, and am reporting that i picked up a pair of 008 in one-wash at the pure blue store in tokyo. FYI i think they only offer one-wash there, but i wasn't dying for a pair of raw ones anyway, so i didn't make a big deal about it.

they are very comfortable and a nice cut, i am not as into the whole aging thing as most of you, so i will be washing them monthly, although i did get some of the sugar cane detergent, mostly because the sales people at a jeans shop in ueno were so helpful that i felt bad not buying anything from them, and got the detergent.

i am too old to be posting fit pictures, at 37. sorry, don't need to be called fat by a bunch of damn kids!

thanks for posting to the forum and providing me with so much info, it helped a lot picking out my 1st pair of high quality jeans.
