  1. theming, that jacket is too dope! the fact that the paint fades makes is even better. rep upon rep!

thanks man! the best part is that i wore it from an essentially new state.

can't wait to see what denim doctors can do about repairing it.

  2. Most of the regular sales people in Levis stores have NO IDEA what LVC is or have any idea of the history. I asked one time if they had any 20s 201s and the girl looked at me and said that Levis doesn't make such a # that they only make 501s and 505s etc and that I must surely mean 701s and those were sold only in Japan.

as a long time unix admin/IT worker, i am now used to being far more knowledgeable about a product than 90% of the employees of the company producing said product.

    sad, isn't it?

  3. So..I just did my very first soak! my 1947 went from 34/32 to about 31 1/2 / 30. Just Perfect!

Edit: Will there be more shrinkage over the next washes? because I am going to wash those let's say every 2-4 weeks. i don't want them to have those huge contrasts as others have.

so, since there seems to be a lot of discrepancy between tagged size, and measured size between different years/factories, would the best idea be to get measurements of the jeans (BiG style, or at least the waist and inseam) and then plan on 2 inches shrinkage in the waist, and 3 inches shrinkage in the inseam?

if i get some, they would most likely come from cultizm, and i'm sure he would be happy to measure them and estimate shrinkage for me.

  4. its sold out on rakuten, and i'm pretty sure it's sold out on take5 too.

No need to worry though, BiG will be releasing "the black knight" this summer...same cut, all black. hidden arcs are CONFIRMED people! straight from gordons mouth

this will be a limited run too, though.

i am on this. need a pair of black jeans to replace my last pair of crappy levis.

  5. Thanks man. I'm probably just crazy enough to walk there. I find myself walking everywhere when I'm in Tokyo. I like to run into shops along the way. It's good to get lost too. Forces me to talk to people.

i agree about walking around in tokyo, as long as you have a good map, much cooler than taking the trains everywhere.

  6. Ain't this a fashion forum? I mean if this was a forum about construction workers around the world, this comment would make sense. Are you expecting something else other than "the bitch(es) who just puts shoes on to take cute pictures and post on a blog." on this thread?

I agree with Eddie. I enjoy looking at all these pictures. it helps me put together my wardrobe as well as finding out about different shoes I normally wouldn't know about. Besides, Fashion + Social Awareness sometimes just doesn't work. Next thing you're going complain about is how all these shoes are made with animal skins.

agreed. if it wasn't for eddie, i wouldn't know that getting my whites boots resoled in japan with dead stock cat's paw soles was an option!

i mean, not only is he a collector, but he documents everything and puts it all online for others to use as a guide. that's more than a lot of collectors would do, and i for one, appreciate the effort on his part.

  7. sorry i havent been too active on here.. but according to denimnews..

Self Edge is Coming to New York

Just got confirmation that Self Edge is opening a store in New York's Lower East Side on July 15. It will be on Orchard Street near Rivington Street.

Self Edge is one of the few places in the US to buy clothing made from rare Japanese and American selvage denim.

    um..ok.

is there going to be an opening party?

kiya, you coming to nyc for the opening?

  8. would you recommend doing a hot wash right away after those hot soak to get the maximal shrinkage?

since a good deal of the shrinkage happens during the drying stage (either hang dry or dryer, dryer obviously causing more shrinkage than hang dry) it would make sense to dry them (however you want) before the second soak or wash.

  9. I've gotten both done in Brooklyn for not too much. The bad news is that the laundry place I used to go to burned down, so that doesn't help too much, and hair cuts .. you can go most places in brooklyn and they won't be more than $50 (for guys at least), there was also some thread about going to places in chinatown.

last hair cut i got was $12 at a barber shop.

  10. ^^^ I agreenwith lowrider. You may even want to size down 2 depending on how much extra thigh room you have. I would check the measurements listed on the BiG website.

    ^^^agreed.

i would keep in mind that PBJ jeans stretch a *lot*, even in the thighs, so after the soak, you should be wanting them to be really tight at the points where you want the snuggest fit (thighs?)

you said before that a return is not likely, so it seems like you should at least give them a couple of hot soaks to see what the shrinkage is like. i don't think the fact that they are soaked will keep people from buying them off of supermarket (i see a lot of jeans on there that have been soaked.)

  11. I was looking to get my girl some raw denim, but I'm not sure if it will work out. She refuses to wear a belt ever, and is constantly throwing her jeans in the dryer to make the waist tight again. I'm afraid if I don't size these right for her they will stretch out, and she'll either never wear them again, or just fuck them up in the dryer.

    Any advice?

    yeah, i have some advice:

    1) maybe raw denim isn't going to be her cup of tea. you *might* want to concentrate more on getting her some high quality denim instead (there are a lot of quality non-raw, non-selvedge jeans available for women.) some women like a bit of elasticity to their denim and don't want 100% cotton, etc.

don't make the mistake of projecting your wants onto her. is your goal for her to get some great jeans that she loves, or do you want other people to say "dude, your girl has some sick raw selvedge denim."

    2) putting them in the dryer will not "fuck them up." it will just cause them to fade faster, and her jeans will be less contrast-y. maybe she doesn't care about high-contrast fades, did you ask? remember there is no magic formula for jeans, their wear and fading is supposed to be a representation of your life, and no two lives are the same.

    3) you might want to have her try some sanforized denim (i think that still sort of counts as raw) my wife has the somet womens jeans which are sanforized and don't stretch as much as my PBJs do, so there's less size related drama with them.

    4) you also might want to show her this thread and some of the pictures posted in this thread. seeing a pair with really nice fit and fades might inspire her to put in some of the effort needed for those results. beware having to answer the "why are you looking at pictures of other women in jeans" question though.

    good luck.

  12. I don't know how you guys feel about the pre-distressed LVC's, but if anyone knows where I can find a pair of Saddlemens in a 30x32, would be much appreciated.

barneys coop has pre-distressed LVC, i was just there looking for raw with no luck.

  13. interesting. i'm going to send my badly torn type III jacket to denim doctors and see what they can do with it. will take pre and post pics and add to the thread when it's all done.

    pre pics:

  14. Nope. I used the "search this thread" function =]. I figured it would be the second most effective choice.

yeah, it probably was the better choice. i on the other hand actually *did* read the whole thread. but i still haven't decided which ones i want to get when i go back to japan next may.

i guess i'm leaning towards the S710, but i may be to much of a fatty fatty pom pom for them. i have plenty of time to decide.

oh, those all black ones from BiG sound wicked. might be tough to resist those. probably too much to hope for that they come with a red tag though.

  15. mrs the_ming has seen some stretching but not very much, especially compared to my PBJs that go from tight after a wash to baggy as hell in a month.

this might have to do with her somets being sanforized, my sanforized uniqlo MIJ jeans have had comparable stretching as her somets.

so... yes they will stretch, but no, not very much unless you go to extreme measures like a waistband stretcher.

  16. i keep it in the left front pocket when i have to, but because the damn thing is huge (nokia e61i blackberry clone) it really annoys me and i tend to take it out and put it on my desk or somewhere handy when i'm not out and about.

lately i have been throwing it in the left rear pocket when i don't anticipate sitting down anytime soon.

i definitely need a smaller/thinner phone though, this was fine until i got my PBJ 008s but now the thighs are too slim for front pocket huge phone bidness.

  17. Is the guy in the middle a Cro Magnon man?

the guy in the middle is lemmy kilmister from motorhead:

    Lemmy_Kilmister_10_02_6_small.jpg

he was one of the original members of hawkewind who was kicked out of the band due to his arrest for amphetamine possession on tour (something he claimed all of them were doing at the time.)

he went back to london, screwed all their girlfriends, and started motorhead. the rest is history.

  18. i live in nyc and work in washington heights, so i see a mix of good and bad jeans all the time.

the worst so far (of the expensive jeans i have seen) was a pair of the BAPE jeans with the white running cat(?) on the front and the spacemen heads on the ass.

i see a lot of horrible cheap ass ghetto jeans all over, and the other day i saw this woman with huge hip flare but it was all filled out! what a bizzare shape, it looked like she had shelves on her hips. thought about taking a pic, but it would have been obvious and cruel.
