  1. ok, so i took the more aggressive approach since i sized up 3 and wanted to get all the shrinkage out at once. this is exactly what i did to my pair last year and i have been very happy with them.

2 x hot wash + cold rinse (1st with no spin, 2nd with spin) both with extra rinse option. i saw plenty of blue water both times.

30 minutes of hot dryer time, broken up at the 15 minute mark to spray the patch (front and back side) with water. this is to keep the patch from shriveling and cracking.

    here are the measurements:

    raw:

    waist: 35"

    front rise: 11.5

    back rise: 15"

    upper thigh: 13.5

    knee: 10"

    leg opening: 8.5

    inseam: 37"

after 2x hot wash + hot dry

    waist: 31.5"

    front rise: 10.5"

    back rise: 13.5"

    upper thigh: 12.5"

    knee: 9.25"

    leg opening: 8"

    inseam: 33"

edit: they fit perfectly. i may still hem them a bit, but otherwise, perfect fit.

  2. The new flagship on Shibuya Dogenzaka is also huge.

The Gotanda uniqlo has shoes and some other shit that I have never seen elsewhere. Also, they have the world's largest selection of +J (and also there's like no one who buys +J there). Actually, I've bought some +J slacks at Gotanda on sale before. This was like 2 weeks after the SS drop date. One of those special Sunday deals I presume.

*In case you are not familiar, each uniqlo store runs weekend deals e.g. heattech shirts for 1000 yen

damn, thanks for the heads up. i was actually hoping to get a bunch of +J shirts, but didn't find any. oh well, my wife and i may be going back at new years. and now i know the deal.

  3. just took pre-soak measurements on my new 35s, and they are in their first hot wash of two before a hot dry.

once they're done, will post those measurements, the post dryer measurements and some pics if i get around to taking any (but let's be honest, we know what a brand new pair of these looks like, what we want to know about is shrinkage.)

  4. I disagree.

The world's biggest uniqlo is the one near my house in Gotanda.

    I'm dead serious.

you posted this while we were in midair on the flight home. :(

ginza was ok, got some stuff, but i was hoping the flagship would be more like the NYC store in terms of size.

  5. Thanks for the info the_ming, hope mine don't shrink up to drastically.

check the selvedge, if it's black/silver then you should be fine, if it's redline then just be careful with the shrinking (i mean, with my current pair i put them through 2x hot machine washes and a hot dryer as per the evisu store instructions, but if you are concerned withe shrinkage i wouldn't be so drastic)

  6. just got back from evisu the tokyo, to buy a new pair of 2000 no.1, and i have important news for anyone thinking of buying via proxy.

the latest no.1 denim shrinks *more* than the last batch. i got a pair last year which had the silver/black selvedge, and got a 34 to shrink down to my normal 32, the guy at the store warned me that i should size up one more to a 35 to get the same fit with the new denim (it's a redline selvedge now) and even gave me an already washed pair to try on, and he was 100% correct.

i won't be taking measurements, pictures etc until i get back to nyc, but thought i would post about this to help anyone who is going to proxy them now due to the sale/earthquake relief.

  7. this may sound like an odd question, but as someone who prefers the japanese cuts and sizes to US ones, i tend to buy a lot of essentials at uniqlo every time i visit Japan. while there are uniqlo stores all over japan (even in narita airport) many of them are quite small and have limited selections. what are the largest uniqlo stores with the largest selections?

  8. my 2000 no.1 after 1 year of almost daily wear

    evisufront.jpg

had some repairs done at SENY, both of the back pocket pocketbags had come unststitched, so i had them re-done, and my phone was on the verge of tearing through my back pocket so i had the pocket reinforced. also the fold point of the cuff was almost worn through so i had that reinforced as well:

  9. black knights from BiG size 32.

sort of stopped wearing these one i got my evisus as the fit is so much better, these are a bit too narrow in the hips for me i think. i may try them again soon, i dunno.

  10. 2) I've never tried Wimax so I don't know much about it. Apparently, it's insanely fast. much faster than a typical DSL or cable connection in the US.

getting online was such a PITA last year that this time we decided to rent a wimax for our trip, along with a phone. i'll report on how good it is.

  11. Alden modified last: 7E

    Alden Barrie last: 7E

    Whites Smoke Jumper: 7E

    Vans: 8D

    PF Flyers: 8D

    EDIT:

Alden Trubalance last: 7.5 D (indy boots)

after getting properly sized at moulded shoe, i was told the following:

    i am a 7.5 D in Alden

I should buy modified last whenever possible

sometimes i can wear a 7D in shell shoes as they can be cut a little bit larger for some reason.

  12. The problem with the inseam is that i would be ordering off the evisu site with a proxy and I would rather have them hemmed by evisu so i don't have to send them to self edge or blue in green. just curious how did you size? and what is the inseam on yours?. Sorry for all the novice questions and I appreciate the help from everyone.

personally i would err on the side of caution, then. closer to 34. worst comes to worst, you cuff a bit, better than them being too short and having to sell them to someone with a shorter inseam.

mine are a 31 inseam, but that doesn't mean anything because i don't actually know how much they cut off and didn't measure them before and after shrinkage.

  13. Thanks for the help so far Freezie. I think I might try the 33's and try to keep the waist under control. I was also wondering how much the inseam will shrink over multiple washes/soaks. I want to end up with a 32 inch inseam in the end. Thanks

you really can't know with no.1 denim, so the safe way is to cuff until you've washed them a few times and then hem once the shrinkage has happened.

i hope to take some pics of mine tomorrow, they are almost 1 year in and i initially followed evisu's instructions and hot washed them 2 times in a row, followed by a hot dry (stopping the drying cycle mid way to wet the patch and prevent it getting ruined.

even with all that i still got some minimal inseam shrinkage.

  14. I just posted this in the sales thread, Evisu Japan are having a charity sale, No.1's are now selling at 21,280Y

crazy. i'll be in tokyo the first week of may, any idea how long the sale is going for?

  15. just dropped my evisu no.1 2000s off at self edge ny for some repairs. there weren't any holes yet, but there were some spots where the denim was getting thin and the back pocket pocketbags came unstitched so i figured it was worth getting them done now. will post some pics in a week or so when i get them back.

  16. They're making a comeback:

    www.idealcapco.com

that site doesn't work right in *any* of the three browsers i tried on my mac: firefox? nope. chrome? nope. safari? nope.

maybe i should hunt down a windows xp machine with internet explorer 5 or something, eh?

really sucks, because i have been looking for a vintage style cap for a while and haven't had any luck.

  17. We carried the Mubec line for a few months, girls actually hated the fit and the zipper was sewn onto the wrong side so it was such a hard sell we stopped selling them.

    weird. these were button fly.

  18. mrs the_ming has a pair of women's somet jeans, they are more forgiving in the thighs than PBJ, and are also not selvedge, but really, that's nothing to be too concerned about, as not all great denim is selvedge and not all selvedge is great denim. both somet and PBJ produce jeans with *great* denim.

the nicest women's jeans we have found, though are by dry bones, called mubec. they have both straight leg and tapered jeans, the denim is amazing, is selvedge and the quality is out of this world.

she also just got some jeans from uniqlo and they are very very nice for the price. good cuts, large variety of sizing and reasonably priced.

  19. cheers crash , probibly the most comfortable pair of jeans ive ever worn

the 2000 cut is for me, the best cut and most comfortable cut i have ever worn. the no.1 denim is my favorite denim ever. i really don't feel like wearing my PBJ 008 or samurai black knights at all anymore, even though they are both nice jeans. evisu is hard to beat.

  20. yeah, just curious what's the coldest temperature you've been with it?

probably in the teens (F) with a scarf, fleece underneath and a wool watch cap. if it gets much colder than that i'll tend to bust out my alpha N3B (wish i could afford the BR N3B, but i wear it so rarely it would be hard to justify the expense, with so many other things i want in that price range.)
