Thanks, jbone. The pair I'm looking at are actually from a private party at a good price, which is why I'm conflicted. I almost think a 33W would be better, but then again I really don't know about the shrinkage. If I was buying full retail, I'd no doubt get them from cultizm rather than oki-ni.

Alright, I've been reading through this thread trying to get a consensus on shrinkage and can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I am thinking of picking up a pair of 1870 XX (Oldest Oldest) in rigid (STF). A pair of jeans that fit me well post-stretching measure 34"W with a 12" front rise. The pair I'm thinking of buying are tagged 34W, but measure 36.5". 5% shrinkage (according to oki-ni) would get me to ~34.5"W, but that doesn't account for later stretching. Would you say 5% is accurate, or could I expect more with a super hot soak and dry?
Thanks in advance for the help.

the tag states...
That is, for the most part, all marketing. There is plenty of non-selvage denim that is high quality, and plenty of crap selvage denim. In reality, the selvage has nothing to do with the quality of the denim. Full price at $98 is not going to be even close to the 'best denim made'.
they have been bleached in the manner that would have been normal for skinheads in the 70s.'Bleachers' usually look a little more like this:

cheers, guys.
akuma- I can't handle a beard in summer! It'll come back this fall..
rnr- the jeans are actually *cough*Banana Republic. They were raw Japanese selvage and have about 8 months of wear on them. The chambray is RRL.

For those of you who were interested in the MTM workshirt group buy, I am starting to take orders for the second shirt, the Navyman, today. Check my signature.

I just saw it now. Thanks! That will really help me out. Maybe too much, if you know what I mean.

Have a look... At a discount, they might be ok.0

^they are, as I understand, simply J Crew tees with Christophe's stencils. Definitely not the deadstock tees with cuffs.
I just got my red anchor MFSC tee from Kiya, and it's fantastic. The fit is spot on and the tube body construction is pretty damn comfy. The smell of the wash is a little strong, but I'm sure they smelled plenty musty when they were found.

Cool. I hadn't seen those in navy. My guess would be yes, since part of the translation is "Navy is in the unique tastes from Japan in dyeing."

i've got 400 people in the NY store right now.
I hope they've bought up the rest of the MFSC CPOs so I'm not longer tempted.

I just picked up the red anchor tee from SE during the sale. I'm glad they got more in, because I've been meaning to pick that up for a looong time.

It's a fixie, just got it yesterday though. Just swapped the seat out for a carbon one and retaped the handlebars. Next thing to go is the top tube pad.[/quote
When you gonna take those breaks off?

I believe xchen's is a single, not a fixie. He's got not one, but two(!), brakes. Wuss!
Nice bikes, indeed.

Are there more pictures of these elsewhere or is this intentionally a tease?
Probably not. Kiya loves to tease us.

Ah, I passed on the sweater and went for the Apolis Activism Nomad pullover at 50% off

So be careful with sizing when comparing one-wash to raw!
Yeah, I've heard a few stories abut one wash vs raw sizing, but I'm wondering about sizing on the sweater and whether it differs between NA and Japan.
Here's a guy who is 6" shorter and 20 lbs lighter than me wearing the medium:
Another guy who is 2" shorter and 10lbs lighter than me wearing a L:
A Medium would be a stretch on me and if it fit, it would probably be more like a tight thermal. Looks like a L would be the way to go for me... Too bad I can't find one!
Tmadd- did you definitely try on a L and it fit whereas an XL was too big?

One last Q: Does MFSC ever change sizing labels (i.e., size down one) for pieces sold in Japan?

True, especially considering I wouldn't be able to wear a belt with them.
I've noticed some of the LVC tags say to expect 10% shrinkage, which would be more than enough to account for stretching.
