  1. Hi Ken what is the ICT?  I'm not familiar with that.  Thanks

I ended up going back on Friday and was able to get the newly released all leather FIL only Grizzly boot.  The fit was not as big as I expected.  I tried on a 10, 10.5 and 11.  I went with the 10.5 but could have made the 11 work.  The 11 was a little loose in the heel.  The Grizzly boots fit kinda snug in the heel which was a pleasant surprise.  I also noticed the vamp height was fairly low for this type of boot.  If you extend your big toe upward you can see it poking up through the leather on top of the toe (vamp).  The leather on these is super nice.

  2. did you tried on the size 9?

Try going to the ICT on the 3rd floor of Gyre building. They might have some ICT version of Grizzly just to try your sizes on, if you don't like the colour / material for some reason.

  3. Does anyone know how the Grizzly boots fit compared to the Patrician boots?  I have the SS13 Patrician's in size 10.5 and would like to know if the Grizzly has a similar fit.  I've heard from one person that the Grizzly boots fit larger.  All feedback would be helpful.  Thanks

Well I checked 6 different stores in Tokyo today and no know has the Grizzly boots.  Isetan in Shinjuku had two pairs left in size 9.  The selection of footwear available at FIL in Harajuku was pretty limited.  February is probably not a great month to be shopping in Tokyo.  Did pick up a nice shirt at the Momotaro store though.

  5. does anyone know where is the Visvim Brigadier boots made, and how is the quality?

I'm not sure about where the Brigadier boots are made but I have a pair of the 2013 patrician boots.  They were made in China.  The materials, construction and workmanship is great.  I work in the footwear industry and feel the overall quality found on Visvim footwear is good.  I own three pairs of Serra boots, two pairs of FBT's, the Patrician boots and a couple pairs of Skagway sneakers and have not seen any quality issues far.  Good and poor quality footwear can be made anywhere.  It really comes down to the individual factory and the mentality of the factory owners.  You could also try calling Concepts in Boston.  I believe they carry the Brigadier.  I'm sure they could check the box or boot for the country of origin.  Hope this helps.

  6. New addition to my Visvim shoe collection.  Got these Skagway's online with a good post holiday season discount.  The detail in the fabric upper is really nice.  I normally wear size 11 in most sneakers and these 11's feel true to size.

  7. I was considering ordering those before, when I was looking for some nice olive-colored pants; interested to see how they'll fade.

I have a pair.  I have not seen much fading but the fit is great and the denim has a lot of texture. Very comfortable for a 20oz denim.  The Olive color is a nice change away from dark denim.  It matches up nicely with a denim jacket and lighter colored footwear that you don't want to stain.

  8. The light blue version of the Winter Flannel is gorgeous, IMO it's the best color I've seen for that shirt.

Also, check out the detail in the yellow stripe on that last shirt! Really good stuff.

Agree that blue looks really nice but that last shirt look really short on the Self Edge guy.  I think he needs to go up a size.

  9. Really love all the texture and character in that denim, looking great.

Which model is it? The next time I go to Japan I'm considering getting some Onis.

It looks like the Oni Denim ONI-527ZR.  20oz low tension secret denim.  I bought a pair of these from Blue in Green.  The slubbyness of this denim is crazy.  It's the most uneven varied denim I have on any of my jeans.  I bought mine raw.  They were a little stiff for the 1st day or so but have softened up over time.  The beige weft threads really show through on this denim.  I would also say the shade of blue on this denim is lighter than a lot of the other Japanese denim (Iron Heart, Strike Gold, Samurai etc.)  I wear a size 36 and found the fit to be a good middle of the road slim tapper fit.  There is good room in the thighs (12.9) and tapers down nicely to the leg opening (8.2).

  10. Yes, that's an easy repair and normally (if done well) isn't noticeable from the outside of the jean because the original stitching would be taken out and redone in the same thread color/gauge.

    Kiya thanks for the info.

  11. I purchased a pair of the Japan Blue - JB0412-ML "military monster denim" in a size 36 from Okayama Denim during their Black Friday sale.  I paid $157.25.  The shipping turn around was 4 to 5 days.  The denim has a tight weave but with a lot of character.  This denim is very stiff.  Even though they are sanforized, I gave them a quick 40 minute soak which lead to some shrinkage.  They feel very crunchy for the first hour or so and then start to soften a little.  The denim felt lighter than what I was expecting for a 16.5 oz fabric.  The rise on these jeans at 10.5 post soak is a little shorter than what I usually wear but is working okay.  I normally wear Iron Heart 555-01's, Oni Denim 527ZR and Samurai S710BK in a size 36.  The fit is a little loose in the waist and then fairly snug the rest of the way down.  Leg opening post soak was around 7.8.  Which is on the tighter side for me.  I would say the fit is somewhat similar to The Stevenson Overalls La Jolla denim I have in size 34 but with a shorter rise and a much stiffer feel.   The color of the dark green weft is really nice but is not really visible from the warp side of the denim.  This is the first pair of Japan Blue denim I've purchased and I would say I'm impressed on the details and finish.  Sorry for the poor photos.

Four more observations for this denim.

#1 - The front pockets are very tight.

#2 - Post soak this denim is bleeding and turning my hands a little blue.  The tightness of the pocket is probably playing a part in this.

#3 - Post soak - After 4 days of straight wear the denim still feels pretty rigid.  You can feel it behind your knees.

#4 - Still loving the deep blue color and the military green weft.  The color of the weft actual matches really nicely to my Red Wing 8180 Kangatan Portage Green 6 inch Moc's

  12. I took some photos of my Oni527 today. Worn for about 8 months now, they've had many hand-washes in the bath. They have become one of my favorite pairs because of the amazing texture and low tension weave. I am really looking forward to checking out the natural indigo 22oz kabuki fabric.

Those look great.  I'm slowly working on a pair of the 527's as well.  The slubbiness ia crazy on these.

    Roy KS1002 "Kinda Special" Jean

Roy has done another run of the KS1002 jean which has now been restocked at all of our stores.  We believe this is the best fitting jean he's done thus far, hence why it's been redone in a couple of different versions.

These are sure to go quick, check our online store for high-res images, a full specification list, and the size chart.

Was the rise on these jeans made so long for a specific reason?  13.2 sounds really big for a size 36 jean?  Is the idea to blend an old style cut (longer rise) with a new jean (new unique details and a good amount of taper)?

  15. If you're in the Bay Area... Various Visvim models of footwear are available at over 50% off in various sizes at the Sak's Fifth Avenue outlet store at the Great Mall.   I'm assuming it's stock bought from Bergdorff..

Nice heads up.  Wish I lived in SF.  I bought a pair of Patrician boots at Bergdorff's after Christmas sale last year for 50% off.  I normally wear size 11 but the 10.5 fit perfect.
