  1. I appreciate it, you guys.  It's been a good while since you've seen them freshly cleaned and flat, Satchel.  The coolest thing about pushing jeans that far is the "marbling" effect as they white out.  Almost like watching a new set of fades set in.  I'm excited for you to see the last repair.  No, I didn't use any Tyvek tape but it was tempting :D

  2. Thanks for the compliments, guys.  I thought it was pretty cool that Ray and I had such similar outfits for our final pics in the contest.

I'll bring em over tomorrow, Satchel.  Incidentally, my wife would like to exchange a larger belt so she can run a little more slack.

  3. Motherfucker.  I asked you to tell her she looked fat in them so that she wouldn't buy them.  Didn't you tell her she looked fat?  Jesus Christ.

jk is she in the contest then?

  4. Skull doesn't get nearly as much attention as they used to and I wish they still did. Amazing jeans.

    Agree and agree.  Nice pair.

Raw Skull 5010XX 6X6 size 28 recently purchased and hemmed at Take 5 Bangkok. Several initial soaks and one initial wash. These surprisingly shrank quite a bit. Sorry for the crappy phone pics.

What kind of shrinkage did you get?  I fear my size in the current lots is too big but I'd like to try them.  I turned a buddy of mine into a Skull junkie and his take5 pair is going through phases I never saw with mine.  They have a very edgy blue whereas my early Pimas have always looked like a pair of Cones.

  5. Satchel I've been going full sweat suit, 3rd grade style, as well. I bought the sweat awhile back, and it is already fairly faded at the elbows and seams.

The sweatshirt has been my uniform since I bought it, so much so that I keep looking for it elsewhere in a small so I have another ready to go.

Ray, they have a small.  I was just there scoping out the small sweatpants for my wife and looked at the sweatshirts.  I don't even want to say why but I would like to replace my sweatshirt and start again, just reset the whole thing.  Goddam

And Satchel, if that other lady didn't scoop those sweats I'll throw my hotness into the contest mix.  No need to double up "as wife" she can do it on her own.

I've seen a nice mix of footwear with the fits.  I'll get fits soon but I want to hold off for two reasons.  One, I joked about reebok pumps earlier but I had no idea they were so popular in reissues.  I nabbed a pair of bringbacks with some LF terryblue in the colorway.  I want them in the fit pics.  Second reason, I definitely want to dry out the shrinkage mentioned -- and THANK YOU for that info by the way.
  6. ^Yeah the broken twills I've promised hoggy pics to taunt him with have em too (on both counts, tracks and roping).

So strange how the train tracks break through.  You have em in hand, you'll know what I mean when I say the train track fades seem ridiculously frail from the start, so sharp and crisp.  They hang in there though.  No damage on my end except for areas of constant abrasion on them.

  7. p.s. Left Field, would it be possible for you to retain fabrication remnants as repair material available for contestants?  I just don't know what else a person could even use except the original material.

  8. It's been a great 1.5 years with this jean.  I'll have pics up soon.  I have everything set up for photos...but I keep running out of daylight.

As for my own vote, there are many beautiful pairs but I'm leaning toward simon's.  This was a year-and-a-half denim contest and not only are his fades well developed, he also crossed the threshold into repairs and wasn't afraid to do them himself.  Obviously that is something I quite admire in hard-fought, long-term denim progress.

  9. Pretty cool to see all of the MN boys in here. Look what you've done Satchel!

More people need to come to phoriday.  Myself included.  I come once in a while but I'm so head-addling busy I'm usually a bit aloof from the group and just get the child's meatball pho lately.  Maybe a vietnamese french fry or two if Satchel has any left.

  10. Very beaten pair of the Weinbrenner Thorogood moc toe here http://be-cause-blog.com/2012/10/28/thorogood-work-american-heritage-moc-toe-after-1-year/

For the money, here in the UK at roughly half the price, the Heritage collection certainly seem a good alternative to Red Wing. Certainly better value and I haven't seen a poor report.

Looks like both the moc and round toe also come in steel option. Half tempted myself.

    Sorry to derail gentleman.

It looks like they may have upped their game on the oiled finish.  Teh pair I had in hand felt and looked like it was harvested from a downed infant cow.  You should try a pair.  I may revisit these or as I said cop a black pair.

  11. These are the ones I have: http://www.postaluniformsdirect.com/closeup.asp?cid=40&pid=223&offset=0

Christian has a pair of the horsehide boots, and for the price they seem like a great choice.  His are pretty beat up and look great, but in my opinion don't compare to Whites/Viberg.  The postal sneakers are pretty cool.  I'm trying to buy fairly priced made in USA stuff as often as possible, and they look pretty good..  Like you said - leather isn't so nice, but they work as beaters.

That store dropped Red Wing because of pricing.  They would never carry ridiculously superb boots for that same reason.  The Thorogoods have been perfectly servicable but for a nice robust boot the black is the only material with a nice hand.
