  1. Well I don't want to carry on about it.  Definitely not what I would expect specifically from Ooe.  They are taking care of orders which overall is the important thing.

On a lighter note I recently did some very invasive repairs to Ray's contest pair.  I'll get some pics in the repair thread soon.

  2. Nah that kind of stuff is what I'd find fun in any case.  Home ec got cut out of twin cities schools and Oe1 and I are talking with a quilt shop about a jean repair workshop for kids.  Talk about FUN lol

  3. I'm not just being a cunt.  I think from the start the contest was simply a bunch of heads who wanted to do it.  How long did it take to sort out a prize anyway?

What Kanita Women's Village was up to with teaching clothing repair is right up my alley.   Quite appropriate, although it now shifts my gears to make sure they got it.

  4. I haven't heard anything from Ooe about a "prize" despite periodic emails.

The thing about genuinely patient people is that our patience eventually runs out, usually in irretrievable ways.

Flash, if you can contact Ooe, please ask that any prize value be donated to Kanita Women's Village.  They recently did some international relief work in tailoring and garment repair so Ooe would surely approve of such a donation.

  5. Will update shortly!

I got a small spot of glue on my leg and in scraping it off noticed some nice blue emerge.  I think we will see some truly beautiful evolution in the contest.  Contrast may be on the wayside atm with the vintage set but I think I'll hang in there with it, at least for a foil.

I could only find one streaming vid of this AIP version, which has more energetic dialogue and music but less gore.  The host is one goofy dude and it's a shitty upload but it appears to be kosher open matte or close to it.  I was hoping to find the best version I've ever seen but it has been deleted.  It was AIP audio synced to the Italian film...perfect.

  7. Glad you're happy with em, Emperor!  I haven't wanted to post until oe1 was over at my place, since he just lurks on mobile.  At the same time however I don't want you to feel ignored.

For the record, as a contestant I only made myself available for technical advice and critique, to avoid any "conflict of interest."  That particular type of pocket repair is a real beast.  Lots of stuff going on fabric-wise in that area.

The crotch patch was just a little bonus but I love it.  It could have gone deeper but it was mostly a courtesy because we didn't want to send them back with a hole that could have been fixed.  Darning is cheap, quick, and effective but there are very, very few repairs I've personally done that show more labor and care when finished than the lowly crotch patch.

***ps thanks for the props to Raw Hands :)

  8. Just wanted to post an alternate stitch to keep the loops off the open edge.

My favorite for this has become to lock in a run with loops then make more passes with a simple suture stitch to totally bury the open edges.

  9. jyoni, don't sweat it, do whatever you gotta do, they're your jeans after all!

I'll hold out for now and see how they soften.  It would be painful to pull and redo the hem!

Jyoni - Thanks a lot mate. Appreciate the kind words.

For what it's worth, I gave mine their first hot wash this week and got a little more shrink from the denim I think. The fit feels perfect now. Maybe a bit of extra washing would do the trick?

Boy, idk.  My shrinking method for denims is to hot soak inside out then cautiously and attentively machine-dry the living piss out of them on the highest possible heat.  Could do it again I suppose.

Your fit is really off the hook, Sugar Mountain.   It's my favorite of all of our fits.

Brings me to an question:  Is tailoring allowed?  I'd like to maybe take in my leg a bit.  I haven't been washing so I do still have to wait for my fit to fall in a bit to be sure.  I'd do all the work myself if it would be allowed.

  11. This is not the greatest or most interesting photo.  I really wanted to get an update of sorts posted up though.  I keep running out of daylight lately and I usually never think to snap photos or have a camera with me.

  12. ^ It's true, they have been super consistent since consolidating in Mexico.  I used to buy them for work way before I was ever "into" raw and quality used to be all over the place.  I remember South Africa making the nicest ones imo and I'd always pick through for a pair of those.

  13. Volvo, that is awful.  I'm always subject to having tools ripped off and it does happen.  I just finished a huge home a couple of months ago and the theft tab over the whole project was pushing 5k.  Not nearly your guys' amount of loss but it easily could have been if they had nabbed the right stuff!

I'll grab some pics today.  Some crocking but it's so early I don't pay much attention to it.

  14. overexposed1 and I are doing something we've never done before.  We are best friends and have known each other for years.  We both have an intense love for jeans and hand repair.  But we have never sat down together and fixed some jeans!

Thru the whole next week, we're locked in together in a "repair lab" of sorts and we've been coming up with some cool stuff and great brainstorms no one person could do alone.  Key among our work so far is a way to recycle existing buttons and rivets using hand-done methods.

We have stuff in various stages of completion but here is one we've finished.

  15. @jyoni those are the olive JP ducks! damn that some serious wear!

i only fixed them.  The wear is from another guy.  They are some nice chinos.

Hm, the patch reminds me more of the Tempest video game than Ande Whall.  I try to address the basics when I do a patch, like working outward from a quasi bar tack on that particular one and trailing the stitches through damage and rips.  From there it's as random as my obsessive nature will allow.  Good call though.  While not my intent I can see what you mean.
