  1. Maybe you can contact the guy that runs the blog ready4thehouse... He is a Sierra Designs geek. He could maybe be able to help you out.

My best guess is that it is a rather new one. I heard rumours that SD produced some 60/40s for the Canadian market not too long ago. But I am just guessing. You could ask some of the experts that you might find on some hiking/outdoor forums across the web.

Couple of weeks ago I saw a mountain parka that Sierra Designs apparantly made for The North Face a long time ago. I am still wondering if it was fake or if there actually was a link between the two. Pretty cool collaboration if it is genuine.

@ Vamks: You should have a look at some parkas that were made in Norway some time ago. They are called Fjellanorakken or maybe Fjell Anorakken (I would have to check with the one I have).

I have found one for my girlfriend and one for myself in a thrift store a couple of years ago, and they are really good.

The fabric is pretty similar to the ones made by Fjällräven, but the details are nicer in my opionion. Mine has fox fur around the hood which is a great deatail for instance. Wether the "Fjellanorak" is still produced, I don't know, but I think you could easily find it on the bay or maybe somewhere else.

  2. I feel the same re the early LVC Valencia Street Vintage - bought the 501's 551's and 201's compulsively in the mid-late 90's and still have a collection of maybe 5 of each which embarrassingly are still in raw state waiting for me to break inquote]

If you ever decide to liquidate them, you should post it here first. That many pairs of good denim shouldn't just be lying around.

  3. I usually wear my 551zxx's or my 1927's, but I also have a pair of 55's (554) and, although they're not Lvc, some 1930 Lee 101's.

Oh and a pair of 201xx's for working in the winter

Good to hear that you still have some good denim to use. And I am glad that I am not the only one that has more than one pair in rotation. I am having a hard time sticking to one pair, which wasn't an issue a couple of years ago, but I like the diversity of wearing different jeans with a different cut (though all of my jeans are pretty much reissues from the same era 50s-60s).

The Lees are very nice jeans. Nothing to be ashamed about :-) I would love to add some of the Edwing made Lees to my collection especially the 1952 and 1955.

Does anybody have more information about the duck pants or more about which 501 they will make for the forthcoming collection?

The whole duck suit would be amazing btw.

  4. Just bought a pair of 551zxx from Mike (plenty of posts in this thread and some of the leepro threads) and I have to say that they are really amazing. I wish they would reproduce them again at some point, because I see myself wearing the hell out of them. They have the carrot fit that a lot of 60's and 70's jeans had. I love them.

Furthermore they were made on the Valencia st plant, and I have to say that the denim they used back them seem far superior and more authentic (based on the 551zxx, a pair of 505s and a 507 jacket). There has been a lot of talk on this subject and I just wanted to give you my penny.

Dawei69: The 505s do stretch a bit, if you are in between sizes go with the smallest for a slimmer fit.

Heech: Good to have you back.

Should we start a donation for Heech? We buy him one pair of jeans, that he can fade into perfection and then he can auction them off in Japan for mio of YEN!

Btw, which LVC jeans do you guys have in rotation or do you just stick to one pair?

At the moment I am working on a pair of 501 '66 and a pair of 501z 1954 (plus my 501 '55 is an ongoing project) and now I'll be adding the 551zxx from 63

  5. A couple of days ago I found some heavy hickory striped fabric with selvedge in a local thrift store. The fabric came from a factory that produced work clothes here in Denmark and it closed in the late 60's or that was what I was told, but I am fairly sure that it is from the 70's or 80's at least.

So now I want to make a shirt with a little help from my girlfriend. It is going to be a joint venture.

My girlfriend has just started studying pattern design, but I would like to know if I could find some patterns for workshirts or similar shirts somewhere online?

Furthermore I would like to know what kind of details you think should be on the workshirt of your dreams (please post pics to illustrate)?

I already have some ideas in my such as chainstrap, locker loop, double/triple stitch, maybe using chainstitch, reinforced sidegusset etc etc

If I actually end up making a shirt, I will of course post pictures of the final result.

But please help me with some ideas. Thanks

  6. simon enjoy, and keep a repair shop's number on speed dial

Thanks :) I will start reinforcing the crotch straight away. Maybe some sufu-approved hi-tec thornproff material. Any suggestions?

I don't mind having to mend my own jeans. Furthermore there is an armada of sewing machines on my school and a lot of nice girls that are willing to patch them up, if needed.

    cheers

  7. Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question... I received them half an hour after I wrote here, and I have been wearing them ever since. I bought them in a size 34/32, as I wanted them to be kinda short or at least I didn't want any stacking at all. I am normally a size 33/34 and the fit is spot on. Although I read several places that the this model would be about an 1" oversized in the waist, it was apparently an 1" undersized in the waist, which means the fit is fairly snug and slim - opposed to the anit-fit that I want (ie looser thighs and good taper towards the hem) and the length was about an 1" longer than tagged. This just goes to show that there are some sizing issues on the recent LVC editions... But they are great jeans IMO. Compared to some old 55's that I have the stitching and overall quality seems to be the same - if not better on these.

So here is what I am going to do. I am going to wear them without washing them for as long as I can do (hopefully they'll never require washing, if the size remain the same that is) and if they stretch I will consider soaking them in cold/temperate water or washing them on low cycle.

I am also thinking about buying some 501 1966 at the moment, but if I do so, I would try to wash them frequently - like every month or every two weeks, but I am still undecided on that matter.

I will report back if the crotch blows (I have never had that problem with LVC and I have gone through a couple of pairs now ) or if I get any skin diseases from wearing the jeans unwashed.

And keep in mind that there are a lot of different ways to wear denim. There are no golden rules and certain ways to do the best job. As Airfrog says it is a matter of personal preference and personal experience(s).

  8. Just a quick question on wearing unsanforized jeans raw (ie without soaking them or washing them). Would wearing them raw cause them to stretch more in the waist?

I have ordered a pair of 1954 501zxx and I am thinking about wearing them raw without washing them - ever.

Hope someone can fill me in on this.

Has anybody found any good deals on LVC on this summer sale btw?

  9. This might be a more historical question about Levis, but I didn't know where else I should post it.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/LEVIS-302-0117-DEADSTOCK-W26-L28-Redlines_W0QQitemZ260430168974QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Men_s_Clothing?hash=item3ca2d9038e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1205%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

I just saw these jeans on eBay. The model number is 302, which should indicate, to my best knowledge, that they are either a pair of jeans for children/youngsters or for women, but what I have never seen before is a pair of Levis with half-selvage. I thought this was a Lee exclusive (though I have seen it on cheaper jeans from like JC Penneys)

Anyways, my question is, have you ever seen this before? And do you think that Levis has ever isssued a pair of half-selvage jeans for men?

    Thanks

  10. i want to get a pair of lvcs, which of them are slim fitting? is the 60 slimmer than the 67? link + measurements + fit pics would help tremendously.

The 1954 501zxx seems quite slim fitting. And of course there is also the 1967 505, you mention yourself. I don't know what you mean by "60", but I am guessing that you mean the 1966 501, and no the hem is bigger on it, than on the 505.

But if you want really slim, then you should go for the 606 (1966). This was included in the LVC collection some time ago mainly as a pair of womens jeans, but they have also been issued for men, I think. But at the moment it is in their "Orange tab" collection. There also a couple of other slim fit jeans in that collection, as I reacall.

  11. Does anyone know where i can get a pair of 1955 raw in a 30/34 ? I've searched the net with no luck. I'm in the uk. Thanks !

I don't think the 1955 version is being produced this season. So it isn't that likely that any shops will be carrying them at the moment. My best bet would be eBay or maybe contacting Cultizm. Dejan can sometimes work wonders.

If you want the fit of the 1955, and could setle on the lack of details, you could buy the 1966, but go a size up. I compared my pair of 55's (34/34) vs my 66's (36/36) and they were completely indentical (I mean REALLY spot on). I don't know if this is a coincidence, bu it might be worth a shot.

  12. They look really good! What soles have you used? I feel some thicker soles like a some Vibram soles would have looked good on it. But on the other hand, they have a more sleek look with the thin soles.

Anyways, your friend should be proud of his work.

  13. This might be a bit late, but I have seen the collection for Force of Nature in person, and I have to say that I am a bit disappointed with the general quality of the items. But I have talked with the owner a couple of times and it seems as if it was some sort of favour he did as they went to school together.

I haven't seen anything from his mainline collection though. It looks brilliant. Let me know if you need any pick-ups. I could try calling him and see what he has in stock. I am quite sure he lives nearby me.

  14. I bought my 55s true to size, but if you want a slimmer fit, you can always size 1 down from your true waist size. I think it was Paul T who mentioned that these jeans could be worn almost as a modish-slim-fit if you sized down a couple of sizes.

  15. I really like when people link to eBay auctions. I know some people don't, but it can really help educate people. I know that I have learnt so many things from eBay.

For instance I quite like these Kelty bags. Though they probably aren't that suitable for urban use.
