Corter, we need more pics. Lots of pics!
It looks like a piece, you are going to need a die cut for...

Hollows; Are you doing something new or something else for Archival Clothing?

Do any of you have some good sources for cheap(er) strap end punches? Preferably in Europe or the UK. But I would also like the US sources...

Today, I made something out of leather... A key wallet for my brother-in-law.
Pretty quick and ultra simple make-up, but if you want to read more, go to ATD.

I think you are pretty covered with that machine.
The hard part is finding good hardware, like buttons and rivets (unless you are doing solid copper rivets).
And thread can be hard to find, if you want cotton/poly thread.

Dude... trust me. I know what you mean...! Haha.! That's why I'm so damn impressed.! And the fact that its gonna strengthen the hold of the grommet, and make it easier on the fabric makes it all the more damn impressive.!
Wish i could rep more.!
Your comments are just as good! Or even better. So thank you very much.
Now, this was my first attempt at sewing two round leather patches on denim, so this might not be worth much, but I found doing three stitches at the time, then turning the fabric made a pretty good result.
I guess the next couple of bags, I make, will get better and better. This was just a pretty quick proto, we did.

Thanks! It's my favourite feature as well.
What you can't see is that it is backed on both the back on the front with a leather ring.
What you can see, is that it is really hard sewing in a circle, especially if you're trying to sew on two round leather pieces at the same time...

That is broken twill. I have three kinds of Cone Mills denim (plus a wide assortment of vintage denims), and I decided on the broken twill because I won't be making jeans out of it. It find it better suited for accessories and bags.
Sorry for polluting the leather creations thread. It has been mighty quiet in here for some time, and I figured we needed something to watch.

If have thought about that, and my whites are already blue... :-)
No, hopefully there won't be any dry bleeding, but I guess time will tell.

Thank you very much, Bsally. You are too kind.
A friend of a friend bought it in San Francisco or LA for me and sent it to me (in Denmark). The name of the shop escapes me right now.
This is just a prototype, that we made rather quickly. I plan on making some more. possibly with other fabrics in the bottom, as I have collected vintage fabrics for a long time. And I also thought about adding a small pocket or purse for laundry money, but since I never use a laundromat, I didn't ad one on this bag :-)

Not exactly leather, but I made a laundry bag using some Cone Mills selvage denim and some leather. You can read about the process here.

I have a clutch motor, so there is no speed controller, but I can control The speed with my foot. I think the stitches on the front look wavey cause of angle/wavyness of the leather. The stitches are straight...
If that is the case, then I'm very sorry for indicating that your stitches weren't straight.

Can you regulate the speed on your machine?
I think you can get much straighter stitches, if you sew it really slow. If you don't have the speed regulater, you can have one made.

Well done, Ray. Congratulations!

I have been finding it hard to find the time to do much leather at the moment because I have been starting school again, but today I spent some time finishing some cardholders. The design is very basic and simple - it fits in a regular shirt pocket perfectly and you can put 4-6 cards in it.

I made the "THINK" one for a good friend of mine as a birthday present. I did it because I was thinking of the old thinkpad that IBM originally did.
And here are some pictures of my temporary workplace in the basement of our town house. This is just a part of my tools collection. I try not to make too much of a mess, as it is a shared basement. I kinda envy the space that some of you guys have. I have been meaning to set up a more permanent space, but I'm trying to figure out, what I need and where to get it. I definitely need more machines and powertools

What do you guys want for your workspace?

I guess, he is trying to imitate the real handsewers of Maine... See recent videos of Rancourt and Quoddy.

Say hello to Jim from Mainelineleathers
If you create the stitches he does (of left, one right), a small knot will form in between the two pieces of leather. From my experience this creates a slightly ofset stitch on behalf of slightly more strength - meaning; don't do it.

Do you make a knot per stitch or do you do a regular saddle stitch (like from the Stohlman book)?

Thanks, Ray. You are too kind.
I don't know the brand of the leather. I buy most of my leather from a local shop and there is an old man there, who is very knowledgeable and he does all of their buying.
He didn't tell me what the tannery was called, just that it was tanned in Germany.
I gave it a couple of coats of pure neatsfoot oil to make it more resistant to abrasions, That really brings out that nice whiskey shade.

Okay, you are right, I should be sharing, though the pics are some crappy iPhone pics.
Here is an iPhone case that I made. The first one. It's made of 3 mm veg tan leather (from Germany) and Ronso thread from the US.
After a couple days of wear.
I discovered afterwards, that Corter makes a similar one, but I don't think his is wet shaped.

I know, I know...
But I feel like a novice compared to you guys with your perfect edges, perfect stitches and shapes. Once I feel slightly better I promise, I'll start posting.
BTW. The dies were for small leather accessories... Like purses, wallets and such. I'll check them out this weekend if possible and let you guys know what happens..

He also offered me an old - going antique - press (15-20 ton, I think he said), but it is way too big for my workshop, which is currently the basement of the house that I share with my roommates. I'm not sure that they would like a big press there.
I think you are right, I should at least take a look at the dies... Maybe there are some shapes that I can use for some of the work I normally do.

Do any of you have experience with die cutters?
An old man offered me his old dies if I paid the scrap metal value for them...
But I don't have the machine to use them, but it could be good for future use, maybe.
