  1. I am pleased to see that the they found a good new home. I was actually planning on bidding on them (a lot actually), but my internet connection went down, so I couldn't bid on them. But I actually don't need new denim, so all good.

They fit you very well btw.

The seller seems to know a fair share about heritage clothing, so I am guessing that the info is correct. But what's up with the stitching on the Lee patch?

  2. Does anyone know how to re-waterproof 60/40?

Great Baxter state parka btw. It is great. I had one some time ago, but it was a bit too small, so I sold it to a friend. I am going to buy one as soon as I find a suitable one on eBay.

I am not sure about how you re-waterproof a 60/40, but Fjällräven is made of the same type of fabric and they offer a wax (Grenland wax, is the name as I recall) that you can use to give it a plain impregnation (is that the right word???)

AT SuperBobo: I recently bought a vintage Fjällräven oilskin jacket (made in England) in a thrift store. It has leather patches on the shoulders like a shooting jacket, leather accents on the pockets and sleves and cord collar and cord trim on the sleeves.

I will try to get pics of it ASAP. It is really the best find all year.

  3. Yeah, the website isn't well-designed and the pictures are shit, so they don't give the best impression of the shoes. So actually they could be good, but you are right, they look poor.

I am thinking something like Birdwell Beach Britches - worst website EVER (so horrible that it might be goodm or at least worth a laugh), but quite nice shorts though.

I wouldn't recommend using saddle soap without adding any kind of conditioner or oil. It is a way of obviously ruining the leather. Sorry to say so. I don't know which soap you are using of course, but most soaps, if not all soaps are basic which means that it will make the leather dry as and if you don't give them any oil, after washing them, there will be a natural lack of oil in the leather.

No offense, but it wouldn't be the best advice to people who aren't familiar with treating leather.

  4. Are any of you familiar with Footwear by Footskins (not a catchy name)

    http://www.footwearbyfootskins.com/store/item.asp?Category=3&SubCategoryID=&GroupID=&SKU=540

    I would love some feedback.

The Albam deck boots and deck shoes are fantastic - I own both. Can't recommend them enough. I have tried the Rogues Gallery ones too, but they aren't as nice, as some of you have mentioned previously. I couldn't really tell the difference by looking at them, but they didn't feel as good.

AT Quinnskimo: Have you tried mink oil? It might work out. Or you could find the greasiest leather conditioner. I think it would do the trick. You might want to stay away from anything that contains beeswax. I find leather conditioners containing beesway to be useful on suede only.

  5. Superlate post, I know. But I am pretty sure that the sunglasses are in fact a pair of Vuarnet. From what I remember Wes himself is a huge fan of the french label and he sports them himself.

So to clarify they are probably Vuarnet and so are Richie's in The Royal Tennenbaums.

  6. Yeah, shoe conversion is a bitch, I know.

I bought them in a size 9.5 and they are a tad small on me, but I do think it will be better when I have worn them for some time. I have almost been wearing them since I received them and they are really starting to break in well..

For reference I am a size 43.5 in NDC, a US 11 in Chucks, a 44 in Margiela, a US 11.5 in Vans, 44 in Common Projects, uk 10 or 9.5 in Grenson.

I could go through more of my shoe collection to check out sizes.

    Thanks for +rep

  7. What colour are they? I could be interested in buying them if they are black. I would have to check my bank account first though to see how much money I have for spending.

I would go for a size UK 8.5 - which is a EU 42.5 and a US 9.5. Common Projects are quite long and narrow. I am guessing you are after the black one, which is sold out in a UK 8 unfortunately, so 8.5 is your best bet, I would say.

  8. I have worn the jeans for about a week now. The denim have stretched a bit, but nothing compared to APC of course and nothing more than what is normal for a pair of jeans. Furthermore the denim is quite slubby which is a preference of mine, so I am really happy that I purchased them.

By the way, some things are on sale now (the cable knit cardigan too and with the low exchange rate it is quite a bargain at £89).

I think the t-shirts look ok, but mostly I buy t-shirts in mercerized cotton, as they tend to hold out better than normal t-shirts, so I am relunctant to buy the t-shirts, though they are really cheap.

  9. Received my deck boots in burgundy on 23rd of December. They are perfect. As said I am normally a size us 11, but I got them in a size us 10.5. They do fit ok, but I think I would have been better off buying them true-to-size. But still I am amazed by the thick cromexcel leather which make them seem quite sturdy, which I am sure they are. The sole could easily be a bit thicker (to make them more durable), but it might also take some of the elegance away from them. I have a pair of Redwing which I also like for their great leather and construction, but I find it hard wearing them everyday as they are so big in so many ways.

I would say that these boots have been my best buy all year and I am contemplating about buying another pair in black as I am sure that I will be wearing these babies to death. Amazing.

I also got the Jap slim jeans which seem ok. As said before they have a similar fit to APC NS, but I think the NS is slightly more tapered. They have a great detail when you look inside them - the inner pockets are made of a blue/white gingham check, and the button-closure is also tapelined with the gingham material. Very chick.

When comparing them to the APC NS I would say that the Albam jeans is sure winner compared to price and durability. They do not seem as heavy as some of my other jeans (mainly LVC), but they are quite heavy compared to NS and other fashionforward jeans. There are two things that I would l liked being different, and it would be that they could have tapered them a bit more and the rise could easily have been just a bit higher (the construction is a bit off on that point)

Oh yeah, I am a size 31 or 30 in APC NS. I am a size 34 in most LVC stf. And I am a size 32 or 33 in Acne jeans. I bought my Albam in a size 32 and they fit fine. I just hope they don't stretch to much.

I think one could easily size down 1 or 2 sizes.

To conclude. Albam gives perfect quality for the money - plus fit and details are great. One of my new favourite brands. And as some of you mentioned the guys running it seem incredibly friendly and helpful.

Didn't mean to write a novel. Sorry. I hope this is helpful to anyone thinking about ordering something from Albam.

    cheers

  10. I went into the shop last night and tried on the boots. They really are lovely. FYI- i'm generally a standard size 9 (43) and the size 9 boot felt a bit big. possibly half a size up so my advice would be to size down by a half (if it's not too late).

Gonna place a reserve on some 8.5's when they restock.

You just made my day with that post. Thanks. I ordered them in a size 9.5 and I am a size 10, so half a size down sounds like I am getting myself a pair of boots that fit.

Great seeing some activity on this thread. It is very nice, because this brand is sure entitled to some more focus and attention - but then again not too much, as a lot of the great things are already sold out.

What else besides jeans and deck boots have any of you guys been thinking about buying?

    cheers

  11. for an easy reference I wear a 42 in cp's and I ended up ordering a 9.5 in the deck boots. I talked to them about it too and thats the size they suggested. They better fit.

So you ordered the boots in a size 9.5 UK, when you are a size 42 in CP? That sounds quite odd as a UK 9.5 normally translates to a 43.5 or 44. But if you mean a size 8.5 uk which is a 9.5 US it makes a bit more sense.

I also ordered the deck boots in Burgundy in a size 9.5 and I am a size 44 in most brands. I just hope they will fit.

I also ordered a pair of slim leg jeans on which I sized down 1. I couldn't find info on sufu about the sizing on them, so I hope I nailed it - but I think it said something about buying true-to-size or even sizing down either 1 or 2 sizes depending on the desired fit in their catalogue.

If you want I can give some feedback once I receive both jeans and boots, I will gladly provide you with some info.

    Cheers and merry christmas

  12. ^ to add to that, I think the 78s might be a little more tapered than the 66s, which sort of exaggerates the "carrot shape"

Yeah, that is what I am hoping for. I really want a pair with the good 70's-80's carrot fit. From pictures I have seen on Hanon, the fit looks spot-on, but I just want to be a 100% sure, before I purchase a pair.

So if someone has a pair and would be willing to post some pics, I would be more than grateful.

    Great fades BTW.

  13. I will try to answer it from my own experience, but sizes may vary as Paul T has said so many times.

I am also a size 33 - maybe 33.5 - and I have the 505 in raw in a size 34, but they have stretched a bit, so they are a bit too big now, not that it matters.

I also have three pairs of prewashed/distressed 505's in a size 34 and they are all pretty tight in the waist. Especially when you was them. Then they shrink, but they quickly stretch again.

To summarize I would suggest you buy them in a size 34. Or maybe you should e-mail Oki Ni and ask them to measure the true waist on a pair of them, as the sizing might be different from mine.

    I hope this helps.

Does any of you know how the sizing runs on the 1978's? I first read that they were sanforized, but now I have found out that they are stf, so are they like the 1947s or the 1955s do you reckon regarding shrinkage?

  14. Dejan (Cultizm) said he should have the fall stuff in a couple weeks if not already.

    Thanks for the info, Airfrogusmc.

I check Cultizm often, and I did check it right after I read about the fall line, but the 1978 model isn't there - yet.

He has restocked the 1966 model which I am also after. So I might just buy them first.

Edit: Just found them on Aero. But they always overcharge the shipping costs heavily. So I might just wait and see if Dejan is going to stock them.

BTW: Will the rigid 606 model that was linked to previously be available anywhere in Europe?

  15. You could be right - I thought it was a 1955 501ZXX, which I've also seen raw, I don't remember it having a leather patch, but maybe I wuz wrong...

I found this ebay ad via Google, that is why it is from the dutch ebay branch... Anyways.

    http://cgi.ebay.nl/LEVIS-VINTAGE-CLOTHING-LVC-1954-501-REBEL-ROUSER-BIG-E_W0QQitemZ220241645674QQihZ012QQcategoryZ1059QQcmdZViewItem

It looks like a leather patch. But I will see, if I can find some more information on it, if somebody is interested.

I think they also made a 501z called "Drop out".

  16. (Oh, re the 54 and 55, no difference, if I said 54 I meant 55. There was, IIRC, a Japanese 54 repro that had a leather patch but was otherwsie the same shape. Nice jeans, btw, what size?? fancy a trade??)

I am sorry, if I haven't understood this correctly. But I am convinced that the LVC EU line made a '54 leather patch version too (in the 2004 collection, if I am not mistaken). The name was Rebel Rouser or something like that and it was a distressed model. I could find some pics, I think.
