  1. You should maybe wear them a tad lower, if possible. But otherwise they look really great. I like the fact that they are somewhat too short.

Btw: Have any of you seen all the LVC that yoox sells? They aren't marked "LVC", "Levis Vintage" or "Levis Vintage Clothing", so you can't really make out what exact model it is and the fit pics that they offer, are awful. But Yoox are known for their insane sales, so you might want to keep an eye on them. Most of the models they are selling are pre-distressed though.

  2. Btw, I think we should put a list of online retailers together - especially with the sale season coming up... I have some webshops added under favourites on my own computer, which I am not sitting at right now, so I can't list any of them, but I will do so later.

I hope the rest of you will contribute to it, as I think LVC is quite hard to get hold of sometimes.

  3. Regarding the James Dean windbreaker. My best guess would be that it is a McGregor Anti-Freeze nylon jacket - which you can find on eBay every once in a while. But I am not sure that it was in fact a McGregor jacket, just my best guess based on the memory of the film and some of the pics I just found via Google.

It doesn't look like a Baracuta jacket. At least not the G9, that Steve McQueen, among many, sported. So it would have to be the G4 (sorry, if I don't mess up the numbers), if it is a Baracuta.

  4. I know this isn't LVC, but I think there should also be some discussion about the original Big E jeans.

So I just saw this pair on eBay - most of you have probably already seen it.

    But check this out

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120242831076&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123

Think about the stacking you could get... Diors don't get anywhere near these babies.

Do you guys think that Levis/Lynn Downey would snap this pair up?

  5. I have read this thread more than once and I don't think there has been much talk about the 501 '66 model.

I remember liking the fit when I tried them somewhere, but now I can't remember what size to buy them in. So my question is, do they shrink as much as the '47 or as little as the '55 model?

    For reference I wear a size 33 or 34 in both 501 '55 and 505 '67 and a size 36 in 501 '47.

I have to join the choir and thank Paul T for his help, wit, knowledge and wisdom.

  6. Then I should have gotten them with a 32" inseam, though they would probably have been too short, which could have been cool enough. And I tried soaking them in the hope that they would shrink just an inch or two, but they didn't so you are absolutely right. They don't shrink.

Unfortunately I don't think I could get a them hemmed with chainstitch in Denmark...

  7. What do you guys think about the 505? There isn't much discussion about them here...

I just bought a pair and I have to say I am quite disappointed whith them compared to my 501 '47 and '55s.

The denim looks a bit too shiny and it appears to be singed and it doesn't seam to be 14.5 OZ.

The inseam is really long, I bought them with an inseam of 34", but they are closer to 36" which means they are to long, so I think I will have to hem them.

The selvedge seam is really thin too, compared to some of the original Levi's Big E jeans that I have which looks stupid when I wear them with a cuff.

So my question is also, have any of you had the same experience or am I just unlucky?

I have to say that mine are quite new and not from the 555 era, unfortunately.

  8. Ok, its getting WAY too cold in the Bay Area. I would love to have someone proxy something from SNS Herning for me.

If that falls though, I would love for anyone to point me in the direction of a japanese site that has Loopwheeler sweatshirts available so that I can enlist a proxy to hook me up.

    Thanks in advance.

Just PM me, and I will see what I can do. I don't live near many shops that carry SNS, but I am moving to Copenhagen soon and then it will be a lot easier, but I wouldn't mind doing some pick-ups for people interested in SNS Herning when I have the chance.

I don't really know how a proxy works, but I think we could easily be able to sort something out.

Who makes hoodies with metallic zipper?

    kind regards

  9. and my point is that usually a nice vintage fade looks much more deeper and richer in its color even after its indigo loss. the lack of depth and just the overall flatness of the APC's is why i'm saying its lacking. I consider a vintage fade much more than just whiskering and honeycombs and the amount of indigo lost. APC's are infamous for it losing a ton of indigo...this exact pair isnt a product of a well worn/faded pair, but more of a washed up pair thats lost its depth and richness of indigo. But you're right, lets not get into this...cuz apparently you think APC's produce vintage fades.

"The fades most people here on Sufu create is often a product of wearing a pair of jeans excesively for a long time without any washing nor soaking and this will of course give a better contrast of white vs indigo, but it isn't how a well-worn Big E Levis jeans would look most of the time."

you almost must've missed the part where he said he washed them 3 times over the course of nearly 2 years.

btw, most people on here know a thing or two about denim...get to know some other faded pairs.

Well, wether the fades have a lot of depth to them also depends on if it is lef-hand or right-hand twill.

And three washes in two years might not sound like a lot, and it isn't in most cases, but it also depends on the weather conditions where you live. If it rains a lot or if it there is daily sun and so on. If he lives somewhere where it frequently rains a lot and where the suns shines a lot the loss of indigo would be increased a fair amount.

But I think you sort of missed what I was saying when I initially wrote. I didn't say that I preferred that kind of fade because I don't, but I appreciate a lot of different ways to fade a pair of jeans. I just said that it wasn't horrible as some people said - of course it wasn't their exact phrase - and some people was also put off by the fact that the jeans were missing (a) belt loop(s) which I think is great as it is prof of the jeans being worn. Again, the old miners and cowboys would also wear their jeans to the point where they would actually start falling apart and they would do all sorts of things to repair them.

And I don't mind discussing things here as long as it is in a friendly tone and on a level of some degree.

    Cheers

  10. youre obviously not very familiar with what a "true vintagefade" should be like if you're actually referring to the APCs. theres a large difference in a pair of super worn down washed up pair of jeans and a nice overall vintage fade. i suggest you go do some research.

I don't want to get into a big argument here, but I am going to respond to this. If you look at it, it isn't totally washed out, but there is a huge loss of indigo. The whiskering and honeycombs are really evident . Like I said, that fade is very similar to the ones vintage jeans have (just check eBay every once in a while to see some vintage jeans), so therefore this is what I refer to as a "vintage fade"... The fades most people here on Sufu create is often a product of wearing a pair of jeans excesively for a long time without any washing nor soaking and this will of course give a better contrast of white vs indigo, but it isn't how a well-worn Big E Levis jeans would look most of the time. The fades on most of my Big E Levis jeans are mainly create from hard wear and tear and frequent washing, from what I can tell, which equals a apparent loss of colour, yet whiskering and honeycombs are visible.

    I hope this makes sense

  11. agreed. theres a point where APC"s get a bit too washed up...those jeans hav crossed that point.

If you look at real vintage Levi's (Big E), Lee and Wrangler, they look similar to the fade on those Rescues. It is a true vintage fade and that is worth noticing, so NO, it is not ugly!

Elpha: With your persistance you should really buy some longer lasting/sturdy jeans. It could be amazing to see what result you got out of some better jeans.

  12. Well Raf Simons is known for using tekno fabrics (I AM NOT COMPARING THE TWO), so I don't mind the fact that she uses polumaterials, I would appreciate that she would use high quality material such as cashmere, merino (pure, which she has done some times) and what not, but imagine what the price would be like.

I like this collection, but I have lost any critical sense when it comes to Wester. I just love it so much. I would like to ad that I don't think this is one of her best, but I have yet to see any of it in real life which is difficult when there are so few stockits.

  13. Actually I just posted a question in the "best-way-to-shrink-jeans" thread regarding hot soaking jeans with boiling water...

If it isn't problem with you guys, I would like to get your opinion.

Thing is I bought a pair of LVC 501 '55 size 36/36 which is 3" too big in both inseam and waist. So I want maximum shrinkage. Would boiling water (mixed with warm tabwater) in a long soak and throwing them in the dryer do the trick?

BTW: Is there a "Big E" thread here on Sufu for really old original vintage Levis? I have been looking for one as I would like to see your collections and your thrift - and eBay finds.

    Cheers

  14. How would boiling water affect the jeans?

I have a pair of LVC 501 '55 size 36/36 which is like 3" too big in bog inseam and waist, so I am looking for maximal shrinkage. Therefore I was thinking that one of you guys would know what to do?

I was thinking about an initial short soak in medium hot water to get the first amount of starch out and then a 4 hour soak using hot tab water and adding some boiling water with a grand finale of an hour in the dryer... Would that totally ruin them?

    Cheers

  15. ^thanks

Ive actually checked out Wester before, and the problem is that the materials are really thin , suit pants -like. If they show up in some kind of denim, even light, I´ll be all over it.

I know for a fact that she made some of stretch denim last season. I even tried some on when visiting Sweden.

  16. Does S.N.S. make sweatshirts? They sound like a really cool company and I'd love to hear more about them.
I´ve been interestede in S.N.S for a while, but since they are quite pricey here, I havent picked up anything yet.

http://www.tresbien-shop.com/?gclid=CPz9pfrFqI8CFScRZgodOFeLKw heres some rather fashion forward pieces. The chunky cardigans look nice. Maybe theres a traditional line aswell?

Simon and Heartworm, you guys really think they are worth the price?

I am really sorry that I never got around to answering you.

I think SNS is worth their price. It is pure new wool, so it isn't a baby alpaca or some fancy sort of wool, but it is very durable and it will seriously keep you warm for a and last a life time. I own some knits and I wear them regularly during the rather cold Danish winter months.

I have actually heard a rumour saying that you can just visit their factory and buy it cheaper straight from them, so if you find yourself in Herning, Denmark have a look if you want it a bit cheaper.

If you still need some info on the brand. All I can say is that the 3 elderly men run the factory and the use really old machinery dating from the 30's or something like that and the production is still based in Denmark which might explain the rather high cost. Some of the knits are really traditional, but they have introduced some more fashion forwarded pieces ( the quality remains the same) and as a gimmick they hand-sign every single piece.

This gives a rather good overview of the entir collection, though there are some pieces missing.

    http://www.agenturv.de/seite/s.n.s.aw0708.php

SNS Herning would be the only reason to create a Danish proxy as I don't really think that there is much else that us Danes can be proud of.

PS I forgot to mention that their pieces are rather slim, so they run a tad small. I am normally a medium, but I tend to buy it in a size L or XL, but I would def be able to fit a M too.

I hope people haven't lost interest in this thread. I really hope that other people will have some sort of interest in S.N.S Herning as it is really great.

  17. Thank you for the support....

Massa concept is american workwear :)...but I am making new line or brand focusing on fashion...there will be no arcuates....let see in the couple off weeks...

you mentioned PB and Kitsune...can you give me the picture so I can easily figure it out...

You are welcome. I just hope that it is somewhat helpful.

Well it is this pair of jeans that I was talking about from Pure Blue. http://blueingreensoho.com/site/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=2805&category_id=&manufacturer_id=9&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=28

I have been looking for a picture of the Kitsuné jeans and I haven't been able to find one (their webspage is just shit). But it is basically a pair of japanese raw selvage jeans with a heavy , almost black indigo coating or extra-dye. A friend of mine has a pair and they are fading in a really beautiful way as it fades through two layers, if you can picture this.

Maybe I can get him to take some pics of his jeans

    Cheers

  18. I really like this project and how we can follow the progress... I envy you so much right now!

Have you considered making a model without the arcuates like Pure Blue for instance? I am really more into fashion than denim, but then again I really like to wear full grain denim, so jeans without big arcuates is my prefered choice...

And it would be great if you made some coated jeans like the Kitsuné jeans and the Pure Blue xx-007... Is that something that you are considering?

Sorry, I didn't mean to mention Pure Blue twice in one post.

    Cheers
