  1. I didn't know something that absurd could actually happen. That's like cutting off water supply for stronger electricity current, maybe not a good comparison, but u get my drift.

I've practically given up finding tailors that do chainstitching in Sydney. And after hearing about your misfortune, I'm never altering my jeans ever.

I think the guy at Another can hem with a chainstich. He has his own Union sewing machine. But I don't know if he only does that as a service for Imperial jeans, or if he'd do it for any other jeans for a fee.

I'm scared as hell sending any of my other jeans out now. And I want to to get my sexihos adjusted in the future... I might go buy a cheap ass pair of baggy levis, take it to that Vlada mob and see what they can do for me, before I commit my AUD$475 jeans to them.

  2. Sort of. They have about a zillion different lasts that can accomodate basically any foot that you can trace. If you have different sized feet they make different sized boots. If you need extra space for bunions or something they can do that. If in fact they don't have a last that will fit your feet then they will make one but they've been making boots for so long that doesn't happen much from my understanding. Other than that they are custom. You start with a basic pattern and you can change leathers and height and soles and a lot of details. I do think they are a great boot and a great value, even more if you have wierd feet. I love mine, supremely comfortable.

They're very accommodating. I've arranged for them to bill me in installments for my Imperial boots becauase it'd be hard for me to take a USD$400 hit in one go. Now there's just the interminable wait for those boots to get to me. 16 weeks, freak me. I can't wait to see how these boots fit and feel. I've always liked my moccasin slippers, but for something like boots, you can't get anything like Russells here.

  3. Definitely agree with tyro - be as specific as possible. tell them exactly what you want done to the centimetre, and tell them how you want them to do it (IE -'from the fucking inseam', etc). The more specific you are the less likely it is that something will get lost in translation and they don't do what you want.

Yeah, like the time I sent my jeans in to be tapered, specifically asking them to take it in from the inseam. So what do they do? They CUT OFF THE FUCKING SELVAGE!!!!

Sorry about that. It still steams me up remembering it. Luckily it was just a pair of baggy blue bloods I picked up on ebay for (not so) cheap, but wasn't wearing because I didn't like the cut. Well, at least it looks nicer worn now...

Hey, does anyone know a good tailor out Sydney way? Don't want to get burnt twice.

  4. Believe you me, it'll loosen up, at least around the waist. I'm typically a 33-34 waist, but the 33 feels like a 32, maybe 31.5. But after 72 hours of continuous wear (yes, I actually wore them while sleeping), the waist on the jeans stretched to 33-33.5.

Now, as for the rest of measurements on the jeans, good luck. The thighs on the jeans hardly stretched at all. In due time, I hope it'll get loose... hopefully.

Really? Mine have stretched out quite a bit. Feels like about a half inch in the thigh (and they weren't too tight to begin with). Probably because I ride a motorcycle. If you're in a bent knee crouch for hours at a time, I reckon the jeans would stretch out faster.

  5. Considering what I know about the stretching capability of 21oz denim, I'm soooo tempted to even find out if there are any 34s left in the blacks. I could just sell my 36s and get a pair of indigo 34s that have just come back onto the online store, but then I'd lose my current favourite motorcycle jean. fits like a regular straight until I'm on the bike, when the jean just fits perfectly into position. snug in the thigh and crotch in the crouch and you can't beat 21oz denim for winter riding (not too cold in Australia for winters, but every little bit helps). And I don't want two pairs of the same jean... but the blacks look so goooood~~~... I might have to change my stance against black jeans. :D

  6. sydney too

Too many nudies on the streets. I think Imperial is picking up popularity sooner or later.

I put my Nudies away after I saw so many. I walked down from Redfern to USyd and counted 6 pairs of Nudies, including one pair on this heavy chick that looked painted on  .

I saw this one skinny guy in Burwood with a pair of LVC 47s. Man, made me want to get a pair.

  7. Depends on how big your thighs are, I guess. I checked the sizing of the SDA103 (actually the D1293 which no store seems to have atm) and I would have fit into a 32. I usually fit a 32 with Canes, but (when) I get my 811s, I'm going to go for a 34 because my thighs are going to be too big for the jeans.

  8. do these guys ship to the US? are they reliable?

I got my 868s from this guy. Shipped to Australia via EMS with no problems. (and this was before he even put the 868s up. I found them on Varishop and he got them for me).

  9. I get the odd feeling it's slimmer. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. And I could never figure out the sizing panel for Bears.

Does anyone know if these jeans numbered as a limited run like the 868s? From what I could see from the Maeno corp (Eternal) site, it looks like a permanent part of their 2007 line up, along with the stalwart 811 and the new 801.

  10. I don't have a problem with commando. I used to go commando, pre-zipper accident. Jeans aren't like underwear (well depends on the jean) where the fabric is in constant contact with the genitals. The denim in jeans can easily stay fresh for a week, but yeah, I wouldn't be going longer than a week without a wash.

  11. I have about 28-29 inches in thighs and my waist is is about 34, 33 501 is very comfortable in size 36, really comfortable on the legs but is maybe 2 inches two big in the waist after two hot soaks, but a belt and the cinch fix that. I have a pair of regular 501 rinsed from 2004 or something in 34, they are VERY tight, like skin-tight on the legs but too big in the waist, like 1.5 inch. The reason i write this about the regular 501 is that I think most people have som experience with this jean.

Man, you've got fucking big legs! Props to you! I know how hard it is to put on that much mass on your legs while keeping your waist trim. When I was powerlifting, My legs were about the same, say 28-29 inches, but my waist was about 36-37. I had to buy levis in 36 waist jeans as well, though for me, the waist fit too.:D

  12. it's funny, a bunch of us on this thread all wear the same size. chicken, you, coleslawyum and myself all wear 8.5 in alden. i prefer a width of E.

    i believe your indy's are 8.5 E's right? :)

Miz, Chicken, et al. Do you mind you I ask you what your foot dimensions are? I'm thinking of getting a pair of Aldens, but there aren't any stores in Australia, and the staff at the Alden online store have been pretty unhelpful. I wear a size 8 in RMW, Blundstone and (Aussie) John Bull. If the international boot sizing chart states that boot sizes are a half bigger in the US (1 size bigger for sneakers), I should be a 8.5 just like you guys. How does your feet compare? My feet are 10 2/8inch long and 41/8inch wide.

  13. wow. After wearing my sexihos for the past two days, I thought I might give them a rest and put on my SC55s. wtf? These jeans are 14.5 oz denim and felt really thick the last time I wore them. Now they feel like they're paper thin on my legs. 21oz denim changes your perception of other denim weights. freaky.

  14. Before you go and kick my arse for not searching, the search function on the board is really confusing. I've never been able to find anything. Most of the time, I go off links to threads left by other members.

Now I'm not sure if this has been covered or not. I got this idea from reading the tall guys thread. I've had a heck of a time looking for good fitting jeans, and the only true hurdle I've ever had is with the size of my thighs. My thighs are the reason why I had to get the sexihos in 36 instead of 34. Now, I like my sexihos. I'm wearing them right now, and they're comfortable for everyday wearing, but part of me wishes there was a size 35 between 34 and 36, only because the thigh was too small on the 34s. I normally wear a 32 waist in most jeans and I would have definitely fitted into the waist of the 34 sexiho, but the legs basically ruled those jeans out. Same with the Imperial Dukes. Loose waist, tighter than tight thighs in the 34s.

Just thought I'd open up some discussion on the topic. Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as me. I'm 5'9" 178lbs, 34 inch true waist, 23 inch legs mid thigh, 24.5 inches at the thickest part (an inch from the crotch, around the abductor, just below the gluteus), 16 inch calves.

  15. I see no reason why people with shorter inseams should be complaining. As long as you can find your waist size, you can have the jeans hemmed...guys with longer inseams don't really have any other option, other than wearing floods or sagging them under your ass...neither of which are my personal style.

Hey, I'll complain about the fact that you guys never have to worry about being 'too short' for a particular chick (I have female friends 5'2 and refuse to go out with a man shorter than 6'! wtf?:( ). I'll complain about the fact that you guys can actually touch the hoop of a basket ball ring without the aid of a ladder or trampoline. I'll complain about the fact that you can breath the fresh air above the heads of us normal sized people in a mosh pit, while I get stuck sucking down the underarm BO of the fug in front of me. I'll complain about the fact that no one will see your bald spot because only Paul Bunyan can see over your head.

But I won't complain about long inseams. :D

  16. id say try and cop a pair of apc new standards, definately well worth the money as a start jean

APC ain't cheap if you live in Australia. the shipping cost alone eats any discount. then you've got the currency conversion rate to deal with (better now than it was 4 months ago when I first started) My first noob jean was the RRDS from cultism. sized too big in the waist... My next jean was the Imperial Duke which I paid $10 more for, but way better fitted since I actually tried them on before buying.

  17. I almost did the same thing when I first got my pair of 55s. cut my losses, go with a slimmer jean, etc... Baggy with a tight waist just wasn't a good look. But I went to a lot of trouble to get those jeans and had wanted a pair with those deadstock zippers for a long time. If I was to take a massive hit selling these jeans, I figured I might give them some time to grow on me. And grow on me they did. I stopped worrying about what other people may think of the fit and just started to wear them. And they got more and more comfortable over time (they were pretty comfortable to begin with). And the denim is totally unique. Not really slubby or anything, but different to any other denim product I own. And hairy, something that bothered me at the start, but now miss on jeans that don't have it. Now I give them at least a wearing a week. Sometimes, if I go out with a slimmer jean like my Ande Whalls, after I come home, I change into my SCs just to lounge around the house with them. I totally don't regret buying them and am glad I didn't sell them when I first panicked over their fit.

But to each their own, I guess. There are some who really wanted a slimmer fit, and really, if I hated the fit, I would definitely have sold it. life's too short to hang onto something you're not going to wear. That being said, in my case, I'm glad I didn't. :)

  18. Since when do gay men not wear underwear? I can think of no bigger market for underwear than gay men. If we didn't wear underwear, how would we get to share underwear fashion advice when we're having promiscuous sex in public washrooms?

    Ignorant asshole.

    rofl:D

So that's what gay men do in the washroom. Ignorance is bliss.

  19. The only reason this annoys me is because far better jeans

can be had for similar money.

The problem is, most people (myself included before discovering Styleforum and this board) wouldn't have the brass nuts to order something fitted like clothing online. Esp for denim worth $200+. There isn't a BiG or Selfedge equivalent in Australia that sells Japanese denim for people to try and buy.
