Finally got these in. Apparently got delivered at 12 noon and got signed for from a person who normally isn't in my dad's office (you'd think having only 3 people working in a 30sqm office and being a blood relation to two of them would be a safe enough place to send something). Anyway, I panicked, called the post office, went to every office on the floor just in case someone else got them by accident. Anyway, long story short, I got them. Whew.

These are the pre-soak pictures. Definitely going to hot soak these. The waist is a bit loose (can fit my hand down and still be comfortable), but the legs are snug (not tight though, which is good, considering the thickness of the denim). A perfect fit for me would have been the waist of the 34s and the legs of the 36 (or a size 35... nuts). But I've always said that a loose waist is easier to live with than too tight thighs, and there's no way I could have given up 0.7inch width on the legs with these. A 34 would have killed me (but the waist would fit... hmm mebbe I could cut the legs off and wear them as shorts). Anyway, I knew I would have had a tough time getting a proper fit with the sexihos. I'm not exactly built for slimfits.

Love the denim. 21oz is the fkn bomb. I thought it would be like a rock hard canvas pant. My brother thought they would be like a judo gi or something. They're like, a softer thicker version of normal denim. I can't wait to break these down and see what they feel like after a few months wear.

For the curious, these are no. 30. :P

  2. My first pair of raws were RRDS. It was around about that time I started hearing whispers of the Masa, and I was getting all excited about them. Now, after everything I've seen, read, bought and worn, I'm a bit meh. If they're worth it, I'll probably still fork out for them, but they'd better be the king-kong of denim, and it's only because I like the nudie cut.

  3. notsicknorwell asked me a question about import duties from the US. don't know if it's relevant to anyone here, in case they want to buy stuff from selfedge or anywhere else from overseas.

    ---

Don't know, mate. From what I understand of Australian import duties, there's no customs import duties on any item under $1000AUD (like 800US) from any one retailer. If it's over, no matter if it was marked as gift or whatever, you'll get slugged 10% of the total cost plus GST on the import duty itself (so 11%)

That being said, I haven't gotten my jeans, yet. But from the sugarcanes and eternal jeans i've ordered from Japan, I've never incurred a import duty, so I guess it's right.

Franklin wanted to see what the stacking would look like. The inseam is like 37 inches, so there's a whole lot of stacking on my end. I'm 5'9" which is a good 5" inches shorter than 6'2".

I should hem, esp. with jeans like this one, but until they've been beaten and washed to death so I know 'for sure' that they aren't going to shrink any further, I'm just a bit hesitant to do so (too many bad experiences). Plus I like it a little messy near the ankles.

For the curious, I'm wearing my RM Williams Henley's in chestnut. They're about 3 years old, but only get about a dozen wears a year. I use them mainly as a dress boot.

  5. i bought a size 29. how about you? btw, has anyone soaked theirs yet?

I am counting down the minutes as we speak. The last report I got from the EMS tracker is that they arrived at the Australian foreign delivery distribution centre last night. They should be here any minute now (guarenteed for today is what they said). I'm going to try them on for fit, but from my past experience with measurements, I'm most definitely going to give these a hot soak (I try and get a good fit with raw and then just do a cold soak, to shrink a little and activate the dormant starch in the fibres, but with these ones, I'm going to shrink them down as much as possible). I'm getting a 36 btw.

  6. I think he meant that if he won, he'd have a 50/50 chance of getting the jeans he wants since his gf would pull the favour card out and make him get her some sling and bones. :D

Actually, I'm trying to hide this from my own gf because if she finds out, the odds of me getting the jeans I want "if" I win are about 1%.

  7. I wasn't even a member when the sammie comp started. Sorry I missed it. I think the Skulls and the Flathead look really nice, but the problem with them is that not everyone can fit into a pair of slims. I think Joey_formal had a good suggestion with KMW, mulitple fits and all. I'm also thinking it should be a jean with really fast fading denim, to keep the interest up. Nothing's more discouraging than denim that still looks new after 6 months of wear. Not everyone's a construction, miner, caver, skater, you know.

  8. @least soak them, if youre worried about the dye loss...please. -salaami-

Dry clean em if you're worried about dye loss. I hot soaked my eternals and got dye staining up to my elbows. As for 6 month old puss, think of all that lovely marinated goodness. mmm mmm. Now excuse me while I hurl...

  9. haha, well actually, i'm 6'7" thin as a rail,

Dang! You're like 50% taller than me!!! How long is the inseam on these jeans? I'm 5'9. Anything longer than a 32 is a stack or cuff (I don't hem.)

  10. Did you pre-pay for those already? What size are you getting? I'm thinking of picking up a pair too in a 30W (if the rumors are true and they're bigger than the blues) or 31W (if they're smaller than the blues).

I wonder if it'll be a mad rush on the phones...

I'm getting the blues. It's been sent via EMS. Checked with the tracking number, it's coming in a day later than usual (meaning I have to wait over the weekend to get it, grrrrr).

I'm getting a size 36, and those were all gone within half an hour of it dropping on the Selfedge online store. Lucky I wasn't working till later that afternoon, so I was there to get em.

I'm not overly fond of black jeans (not fond enough to shell out another 5AUD bills for them). I figured there's only 25 pairs, I can't believe there were any left after the initial rush. If it was the other way round, and there were only 25 blue ones, I def would have asked and sent money for another forum member to buy them for me when selfedge was taking pre-orders in store.

  11. As I understand it, the back pockets are only going to be smaller on sizes 32 and less. So from 33 up, it's going to stay the same. I got my Imperials a month before the change over, and it was the huge pockets and back stiching that helped me pull the trigger on them.

  12. Hmmmmm. This is all food for thought!!!

Maybe the Atelier La Durance Prescott if we can find a plentiful supply.

BUT PLEASE NO ACID WASH JEANS. If they gain popularity i may never wear jeans again.

I just noticed that cultism put their prices up for those. $199 to $259 or something like that. I'm hanging out for the selvage prescotts coming out later this year (cause I'm a selvage snob. it's too late for me...)

  13. indigo_junkie, the fit looks really great.

it seems dukes are the most popular imperial line...

yah, I liked them better than the kings. They were so skin tight on me though, when I first got them. The guy at Another took one look at my legs and recommended the Kings (it was so tight on the legs, the weft threads were getting distorted). But as painful as the Dukes were, I just liked the look of them better than the kings. (lucky too, because if the denim is the same on both jeans, the Kings would have stretched out too much, but the Dukes - just right).

  14. I dont really care, my girl does though. Ive told her leather is a by product that would only be wasted if it wasnt used! I guess rather than talking about mink oil ( remember mink are ultra cute ) ill carry on talking about selvedge instead.

Yeah im well aware leather is an animals skin - but I cant help but feel that seeing as im a human being who contemplates his own existence im better than a cow or horse or mink........ infact im better than these other creatures solely because I wear selvedge and they dont.

I had an vegetarian ex-GF who would go off at me for wearing a dead cow skin on my back when I go out riding. But IMHO, nothing beats leather for breathability, flexability, comfort and protection on a motorcycle. Better the cow's skin than my own, not that the cow's going to need it once its been turned into steaks.

  15. Yes! And I have friends (I can't afford it or I would) that collect original WWII flight jackets (some worth thousands of $$$) and they would NEVER use mink oil. I've also talked with real leather experts and they have all told me NEVER use it. According to the expert you shouldn't use anything unless your leather is actually starting to dry out and if its new it takes YEARS. So they're not supporting any conditioners. In fact just the opposite.

hmm, I've always thought it was the petroleum products that get mixed with the mink oil that causes the thread to rot or damage the leather. I give my riding leathers a rub down with mink oil once a year, just after winter when I put it away in favour of some light armoured cordura jackets (summers get hot in Australia - but anyone who's fallen off a bike would know not to ride around in a t-shirt). I've recently run out of the stuff (Montana pitch blend was the recommended leather conditioner from fox creek, where I got my jacket), was going to buy some more, before I stumbled upon this thread. I've put in an order for some Obenauf's LP, just to give that a try. Never had a problem with mink oil, though, other than the smell...

Put this one up on the Imperial thread, but I thought I might share here also. For the curious, 5'9" 178lbs, size 34 Dukes, 23 inch mid-thigh, 24.5 inch from crotch across abductor.

These are my first (and soon to be of many) pair of slim jeans. They've stretched a lot in the thigh and waist. When I first got them, they were skin tight. Now they're just comfortably snug (exaclty the way l like them). Took me about a month of wearing to get it like this. One cold water soak and one wash (had to, febreze smells terrible. couldn't stand it, had to wash them).

Photo taken on a shitty camera phone which I just figured out the self-timer function for (only owned the dam thing for a year). For the even curiouser, that's an RM Williams belt. I own four of them, and they are the only belt I wear (for now. looking to get a Tanner belt once some funds free up).

    imp01.jpg

Finally figured out how to use the timer thingy on my shitty camera phone. Will try to take better pics once I get my hands on my dad's cybershot. For the curious, 5'9" 178lbs siz 34 Dukes. RM Williams belt.

Getting some black ones laaaaater in the year.

  18. I think it would be cool to do a STF 501 ccontest. Classic fit, everyone can afford them/have access to them.

Ande Whall would be tight too when v4 comes out.

not as easy as you would think, esp in Aus. depends on whether that guy's still selling them on his ebay store. And mall jeans for the US is different over here. I can't get my hands on GAP unless someone sells it cheap on ebay. To order it from their online store, with those prices, might as well get APC.

  19. I've been eyeing these jeans as well (actually eyeing about 10 pairs of jeans atm). I'm a natural 34, but its my thighs that have been giving me the most trouble. 24.5 at the widest part, 1 inch from the crotch. That means, I literally, cannot fit into jeans with thigh sizes less than 12 inches wide. (fortunately, these are 12.2) I don't know about you, jeepster, but I always look at the thigh width for jeans first to see if I fit into them or not. Then again, guys like us aren't "supposed" to be wearing slimfit jeans  .

  20. 0704071833fs0.jpg

No irregular fitting or twisting symptoms whatsoever,

I have the same pair of (what I can see in the photo) expresso coloured vans. Least I think you're wearing vans. I usually wear boots with my RRDS. the bootcut cuff engulfs anything smaller.

  21. Man, I seriously needed some of that guru shit from Kiya for my sexihos. I thought about sending him a pic of me in my boxers posing next to a US$1 bill for a scale comparison, but it might have been misconstrued, and I'd probably find it hard to buy jeans off a guy who has a restraining order on me.

EMS has been good to me in the past. Should be getting here Thursday or Friday...

  22. Money makes the world go round, brother.

    .

Sure, I believe that everyone needs to make a living, but if the guy's going to compromise his design (esp for a very small independant niche company like his) in order to sell his jeans in the US, he might as well have gone into the bulk garment industry and have his jeans made by 4 year old tawainese child for 10 cents an hour

if these go to a retailer, i will have A LOT of ill-will toward whichever retailer that is. how could you not, BTT and knucks were the only people in america to contact denim-junkie, so where do you think the retailer heard about them? could it be these forums?

If BiG found out about these jeans on their own by trawling the net (which is what I figure most niche market jean retailers would do in their spare time) and liked them enough to want to sell them in their store, then more power to them. If BiG found out about these jeans on this thread and hijacked the group buy in order to make money off the same people that spread the word about BiG and its products, then I hope NY gets hit by a mini-earthquake, just enough to swallow a little jean shop in Soho into the ground.
