  1. I cuff for bootcuts, stack for straights or tapers and never ever hem until the jean is at least a year old (sometimes older. Pretty much until the back of my heel wears out a hole on the bottom of my jean leg). I once had a pair of King Gees (similar to Dickies work pants) that were "guarenteed" non-shrink (sanforized and mercerized) that I had hemmed for work. 1 year later after constant daily wear and weekly hot washings with regular detergent, the length of the cotton drill pants shrank up past my ankles. Now that didn't really annoy me too much ($20 pants, just threw em out and bought another pair) but I'd be plenty pissed if that happened to a pair of my $200+ jeans now.

  2. actually, wouldn't the holy grail/trinity of jeans be PBJ Ai001, Oni Shoai and KMW AWA, since they were all dyed by the same person/prefecture? Super slubby natural indigo?

    I always thought of the jomons as a class of its own. LHT, silver rivets etc...

  3. hahahah, its used as something like "have a good day/evening". im pretty sure its a translation mistake and that there was nothing wrong with you.

    2nd is a great store. i shot them several emails around 2am and heard back within the hour. im not sure how they keep the place running having to work that late, but they sure provide some top notch service.

    im going to be back in service in about a month from now. hopefully the market isnt jacked by all the upspringing(is that a word?) proxy services these days.

    I'm not sure how I'm going to survive the damage I'm going to get from those sexihos (if I get them at all), but yeah, there are plenty of jeans/wallets/misc. stuff I want to get, and I'd rather get them from a proxy who's a big denim fan like myself.

  4. The point of buying in bulk is to save on the price of the jean and have it shipped over as a bulk order to save on postage, but what about those who don't live in the US? (like me) I'm tossing up on whether it'd be easier to get it from the dj website directly. (Don't know if they only sell one pair of jeans at a time). If I were to jump onto the dj bulk order, I'd have to pay for its shipping to the US and then airmail shipping to AUS.

    hmm. something to think about. I'll definitely be interested if I miss out on a pair of sexihos. I'll have USD$380 burning a hole in my pocket.

  5. you do realize 'jap' is a racial slur right?

    It didn't use to be. Pre-WWII, the word 'jap' was just a lazy contraction of the word Japanese, just like 'brit' for British or 'yank' for Yankee/American. Streets in America such as 'Jap Road' or 'Jap Lane' were named so, not to insult a race, but to recognise social work done by certain Japanese American citizens. The word 'Jap' only became a racist slur when used to describe the enemy in war propoganda publications during WWII. Later, it was used as a derogatory term when describing items of low quality such as japanese made cars and cameras in the 60's and 70's (much like how people dismiss Chinese made products today). I say, take it what you will. I didn't find it particularly offensive, esp. in the context that it was used. I'm sure superstar didn't mean to use it as a racist term.

    I'm asian, btw. but not japanese.

    Oh, and you do go back after buying japanese made denim. I'm wearing a pair of $30 STFs right now, while my $300 Sugarcanes get a once-a-week airing.

  6. Whatever you do, don't pick at it or your jeans will unravell and fall apart!

    lol, kidding.

    I really don't know if they'll take it back for such a little defect. It's just a little warp thread that's become detached. I'd say, just use a xacto knife and cut it off at the ends, just in case it gets snagged on something. I had something similar on an old pair of jeans and it got snagged on something. that one warp thread tightened and I had this weird wrinkling along that one thread. Might not happen to your jeans, never owned a pair of sammies (something I plan to rectify in May/June when those 21oz come out)

  7. crotch rotttt

    damn it! I was going to say that!

    If your jeans don't smell like ass and you're still getting a reaction, it's probably the starch. I always do a soak on my jeans before I wear, not because I want to shrink to size, but to remove any excess starch from the jean. I still get pretty good wears anyway.

    If your jeans smell like ass, it's time for a wash.

    If your jeans smell like wet soggy ass, you've probably got crotch fungus and its time for a wash (and some anti-fungal lotion).

    Remember, bug feed off the dead skin cells trapped in the fibres of the denim.

    I tried to go the febreze way but ended up having a reaction to the febreze.

  8. Here's a quick update

    -Today was insane

    -We're down to one or two of each size of the black ones

    -We still have every size in the blue ones, but are running low in size 32

    -It was like a mini SuFu party, hella fun.

    -Beer Good Now

    fkning hell! I mean, congrats with the drop and all, but who was it on this thread who said there not that much of a market for $380 jeans?!?!?!? Freak me, I hope there's going to be some 34s left by April 8th.

    Never was all that interested in the blacks (I didn't pick this particular handle for nothing - blue was my fav colour before I even got into jeans).

    Going to be watching this thread like a hawk now and counting the days to the online opening.

    ps. congrats on the collabo, kiya.

  9. hi all.

    hoping you guys can give me some quick help. wanna get a pair of imperials before the weekend gets here. anyway...

    im about 174cm/70kgs so i'm pretty big. not so much fat as broad shoulders although i do see a belly coming up [working on it!].

    anyways, i'm currently rocking a sz34 in my jeans but i can stick BOTH my fists in EASY so as you can tell, i wear my stuff a little baggy. also, i'm wearing sz L for tees [american size, supreme to be specific, and if it helps] and was wondering two things

    *

    a) what cut should i get? kings/dukes?

    B) what colour looks best with what? i know this is personal opinion, but i'd like yours. most of my tees are black and white. a few greys. ONE red. out of like 30 tees haha.

    c) what kinda sizing should i go for? looking up on selfedge's website, i see kiya wrote that it shrinks after washing but then expands. does that mean that the net change is nil?

    *

    would appreciate you imperial veterans to gimme a hand! cheers!

    All depends on what type of cut you want. I used to be a relaxed/loosefit jean guy before I bought my pair of Dukes. Now I love slim(er) jeans. I'm also 174cm, but 80kg, and really all depends on your waist and leg circumference. My waist is a true 34inch and my thigh is 23 inches. I think the thigh measurement in the dukes is 12inches across for the 34, I think. First time I tried on the dukes, I thought I was going to die. Not because the waist was too tight (snug but okay), but because my legs could barely squeeze into the leg holes. the legs stretched out a fraction, but not all that much. Looks great though, in hindsight, perhaps I should have gone for the kings. But then I would have missed out on what others on this site call "tight jean heaven."

  10. ^ a harley is to motorcycles what a pair of 501s is to denim, a kawasaki is more like a pair of true religions..

    Kawas as True Religions? Come on! There's years and years of racing tradition behind the big Japanese 4. I'd think of it more like this...

    Harley are to motorcycles what Levis are to jeans.

    Honda = Sugarcane

    Yamaha = Eternal

    Suzuki = Samurai

    Kawasaki = D'Artisan or Pure Blue?

    Hyosung = Nudie/APC/UNIQLO?

    Triumph = ?

  11. A V-Rod is a Harley but it isn't a Harley.

    A V-Rod is Harley's attempt to get in on some of that sport-cruiser action. A market that has been dominated by bikes like the Kawasaki Mean Streak or Yamaha (Star) Roadstar Warrior. Which is funny, since most of the Japanese companies have been chasing Harley for years.

    I'd love a Harley, but the costs are prohibitive compared to a similar Japanese counterpart. I used to ride a Yamaha VSTAR 1100. Love cruisers.

  12. I've been looking at those Union Star ones. Good price and I'm liking the cut (though won't know until I've tried on a pair). Not so liking those star arcuates (backstiching, what's the proper term for these?). If I do ever get these jeans, they've got a date with the thread picker.

  13. I used to keep my phone in my front pocket, but didn't like how it would jam up against my leg whenever I sat down. A (lighter) friend suggested that I keep my phone in my backpocket. That was alright while I was standing up. When I sat down, 220 lbs of pressure from my fat ass pretty much crushed my phone. (I weigh a lot less now, btw. :rolleyes: ) Now I keep my phone on a belt clip, even when I'm riding my motorcycle. Got a little bit of fade happening where I keep my keys in my left-hand front pocket.

  14. Man... I was so excited to pick up a pair of the blacks but after seeing more pics my enthusiasm is waning. Seems like my noobie tastes still aren't as sophisticated as the rest of the peeps here since I'm probably the only one that doesn't think these are a great fit (price and marketing aside).

    I'm kinda worried about the fit too. I mean, I think it looks great on all these skinny guys, but I'm a bit far left of skinny and I don't want to purchase a pair of jeans that could very well be unwearble. Anyway, I worry about the fit of all the jeans I purchase since I can't physically try on any of them before I buy (Australia IS an island).

  15. The patch appeals to me the same way those gigantic back pockets on the Imperial Dukes appeal to me. It's probably going to look slightly smaller on a size 33/34 anyway.

    I didn't like the half arcuate at first either, but it's grown on me. Probably because it challenges most people's mental need for symmetrical things. But for me, it kind of makes the jean look like one of those smiley eyes on manga animal characters.

    Just got a pair of these in the mail. A pair of John Bull (I think pre-Blundstone purchase, but I'm not sure) safety boots for $47AUD off ebay. Needed a pair of casual boots since my RMWs are too formal for everyday use. The boots are much more redder in the flesh than in these photos. (Nokia camera phone). For the curious, that's the hem of my Ande Whall Cougars.

  17. hot soaked my size 34s for about 3 hours. the water turned yellow at first (starch?) before the indigo bled out like crazy. pulled the jeans out of the water, and my arms got dyed blue all the way to the elbow. spun in the washing machine and then hung dry overnight. wearing them right now. they don't feel any different. no tighter in the waist, though the hem feels about a half inch shorter, but I'm not sure. I wonder if I left it in the sink long enough...

  18. I always kinda assumed that the 21cm was a normalish cut :P

    I sort of thought that too. 19cm for all those skinny people. 21s for those not-so skinny people who want to fit into slim jeans.

    The Sufu fit for the waist isn't too bad since I know waists stretch out. But for the thighs? If your legs stick out like you've got a pair of plaster casts on and you think the outer seam is going to bust if you squat down and if your feet start looking purple because not enough blood is flowing down there, then yeah, might be too tight for me.

    Nothing beats trying them on, but I guess the next best thing is to try and get as many dimensional measurements as possible and compare them to jeans you already have.

    Second time around.

    They're not jeans, (cause my jeans don't look anything like these), but I thought these honeycombs looked pretty awesome. Basic cotton drill pants that I wear at work because for some reason or another, upper management has a beef against denim. No starch, washed every week with the rest of the laundry. I've had these pants for about a year. great creases, no fading I'm assuming, because there's no white core to wear through to. It drives me insane thinking of the awesome creases I could put on my jeans instead of these crappy $15 pants.

    ps. cheers homme, for the tip.

  20. wowee, those jeans look tight. I wonder if my monstrous thighs are going to fit in those. I've always thought Dior 21cm had a 21cm (8.5in) leg opening, similar to the Imperial Duke. I might have to go with some standard 634s instead. :(

    Kiya, will you be posting proportions of the sexihos like with your other jeans in the online store?

    ps. AUD is at 80.5cents and holding. Analysts are prediciting it could hit 82 in three months.
