  1. Saw Killing the Dream's last show on saturday with the carrier, all teeth, and dcoi.

honestly the best concert i've been to in a very long time but it was probably because it was the first time i've been back to the gilman in about two years and that one of my favorite hardcore bands was breaking up.

i've said it before, but honestly an end of an era of hardcore for me personally. thanks for the memories KtD.

  2. ^Oni / Hannya

Really like this piece done by Chad Koeplinger

thanks man! that was what i was thinking, except he was saying it was different b/c the eyes were closed or something else. i'll let him know.

  3. good luck to all the people doing finals these last two days, but an extreme congratulations to all those who are getting out and transferring out of the black hole of de anza.

i've seen too many people just stagnate there, so seriously kudos to the transfers.

  4. Nice! 5 hours isn't too bad if you keep eating and drinking!

I've done 8 hours and I was perfectly fine. I've also done 4 and felt like dying (lack of eating..).

thanks for the tip, will do. bringing lots of iced coffee and miscellaneous snacks to the appointment.

    ..too soon?

in all honesty it was a decent final, and was glad to see a goalie dominate as much as tim thomas did after such a mediocre goalie performance during last year's stanley cup finals. (well if we take luongo's performance into account also, then these finals were mediocre...)

  6. First off, apparently Kreayshawn has signed with Columbia Records..

    http://www.thefader.com/2011/06/08/girl-stop-kreayshawn-signs-massive-deal-with-columbia/

Can this thread die already? Kreayshawn is a one hit internet wonder. 3 months from now no one will be talking about her. The fact that she is endorsed by The Hundreds has already ruined her, regardless of the fact that "Gucci Gucci" is a shit song.

...which are my thoughts exactly. It's ridiculous how susceptible record labels are to internet hype. Just cause you missed out on oddfuture before yonkers came out, doesn't mean you should try to snatch up any untalented "artists" that are getting hyped..

  7. i'm thinking about getting an "old man and the sea" themed sleeve with the old man fighting a marlin as it jumps out of the water. i'm thinking that the marlin will be half eaten (like it was by the end of the book) as it jumps out of the water. i'm mainly gonna go black for this tattoo to match my one i have on my inner arm, maybe some very minimal color, but we'll see what stephanie thinks when i talk to her.

very excited, was thinking about going to hooper but checked out her stuff and was totally blown away.

  8. union pool show? new lows were disappointing ... APMD killed it. psychic limbs stage banter was gold

yep that one. new lows were somewhat disappointing, they just need better band members. apmd fucking killed it though.

  9. really digging the new weekend nachos stuff

yo backing this. finally had a chance to check it out, and it's pretty damn good. i like the fact that it has some power violence elements but has the thrashy, hardcore parts with some even crusty influences (at least imo)

    edit:

also backing the new new lows LP "harvest of the carcass". i saw them with nails and all pigs must die, and they were decent live, nothing spectacular though. the vocalist, p-boy was awesome, but the rest of the band just stood there motionless, lame. the drummer messed up a song too, they definitely need to tighten it up a bit and they'll be a force to be reckoned with. bummed that they didn't play "anguish" either, best track off the new LP.

  10. No you're right, tri state area shows in general are more about violence than fun. I don't really know how I feel about it

yeah i can kind of see that. no hate on ANY of the kids, i love all hardcore kids everywhere, but the gilman really just had this vibe of love, while a lot of these shows i see in NY and the one i saw yesterday in philly, had just a lot of kids just moshing with no real regard for anyone else. dan yemin was the man when i saw him during paint it black's set though, he said for all the tough guy moshers to get the fuck out cause there was no place in their music to do that shit. i feel like too many kids find ANY opportunity to try to mosh even if it's kind of out of place.

i'm all for moshing and getting your energy out, but let's have more fun, and less violence.

  11. There was a full on circle pit when I saw DRI at gramercy last week

ok not surprised about that. need to go to more hardcore thrash shows. maybe i'm going to the wrongs shows, but cali definitely has more circle pits based on the bands i've seen play at the gilman and then playing somewhere in NY.

    *edit

and to answer your question mapclub, the only australian hardcore band i know is carpathian and i thought they were pretty good. sucks they broke up though. any recommendations of aus. bands to listen to?

  12. yeah i said it. i've been to a pretty good amount of hardcore shows in NY and i haven't seen ONE, done right. if the band asks for it, it happens with only like 10 people going for like 20 seconds and then it dying out.

  13. Highlights of game 2:

    - Marleau hits Bieksa in the balls with his stick then Bieksa beats the crap out of him before scoring the go-ahead goal on a break.

    - Canucks maintaining composure while Eager runs the league's top scorer then make them pay with 4 powerplay goals. You could see his team mates sit on the bench shaking their heads at him losing the game for them. Then Eager tops it off by running Luongo and looking down and mocking him. Such class. It's too bad he will probably be suspended for game three if not more.

    Six more wins to go.

totally agree with the eager thing, he definitely lost the game for us... should've used the emotion from the fight productively...

but the goal that bieska scored happened before the fight. bieska was hounding marleau so he responded, didn't see the tap on the balls, but honestly i give marleau props for attempting to fight with someone who is known to drop the gloves. marleau was just trying to inject energy into the team with his first fight since '07, and obviously he did except with eager going into a berserker goon mode... my question is why mcclellan kept on playing him after the first penalty...

  14. saw touche amore with title fight, the menzingers, and dead end path last night at the first unitarian in philly.

weirdest bill ever. dead end path was a little too chug-chug generic metallic hardcore for me, touche ruled and played a good mix of new and old, didn't really listen to the menzingers, and title fight sounded great. It was honestly the most eclectic mix of musical styles i've heard in a while, but title fight picked bands "they wanted to listen to everynight" as they put it.

Still don't know why kids were moshing during title fight though... maybe philly kids just want to mosh? (first time in philly, so totally generalizing) had some good parts which would have elicited a nice west coast circle pit, but never happened. (biggest thing i miss from the gilman, NOBODY knows how to circle pit in NY, or the east coast it seems...) Overall it was a great show, catch it if it's near you guys.

also on another note, jeremy from touche is the nicest dude ever, he got one of our friends into the sold out show after we just talked to him about it, super rad dude.

  15. ^my thoughts exactly.

the album isn't bad, but it didn't live up to the hype and the fact that when i first heard "yonkers" i almost shat my pants because it was so good. I think i had too high of expectations for this album and thought i would have that moment for all or at least most of the songs..

that being said, i love she and tron cat though. frank ocean's chorus on "she" is fire.

  16. i was surprised at how physical that canucks-blackhawks game was. I didn't get a chance to watch any of the games except game 1 but they definitely amped up everything (which is not surprising b/c it was do or die for both of them). Looking forward to see how the canucks are going to fair against the predators. will be interesting to see if the canucks are so battered that the grinding game the predators play will wear them out in the series... (i'm guessing most likely not though, the canucks are a solid team.)

  17. i legit must have bought that shit 15-30 minutes before it sold out.

    SWAG.

who wants to get scalped on tickets? probably not going to sell them, but would definitely like to know how much they're gonna go for.
