  1. ^ORLY? Hahaha, the one I linked is a dutch company that has been around for ages and makes crap.
That is most likely a different company haha

The Salty Dog jeans out of Japan are related to Canton

Actually the font looks pretty similar

  2. Evisu Deluxe Silk Denim, worn about a year almost every day and washed pretty often, with matching jeans (full Texas tux;)), to see what the differences in fadng between a jacket and jeans would be:

I really love this one, the detailling and overall shape are so nice, wish i could +rep you again.

Do you know if this model is still being sold?

  3. No, i went to Hermans Shoes in Utrecht. Great shop, they carry Edward Green and Crockett and Jones too. The staff was pretty helpful too, altho they gave me a weird look because i just went to school first, so it wasn't like i had a nice bespoke suit on. Bitches cant appreciate selvage denimz i guess.

Lol, didn't really expect shoe clerks to be into dry denimz, especially not in Holland.

Do you know Sir Max? It's in 'de negen straatjes' , they also seem to stock Alden, Crockett&Jones, Edward Green.

  4. Some very nice boots aho and Happy Hooligan, i love the stitching pattern on the soles.

Good to read everything worked out fine with your Aldens Akilae.

Anyone has recommendation for a thin leather insole that wont bend.

I use leather insoles from the brand Viva, the shoe store where my gf works sells them, and i have to say they work out fine for me.

I don't know if they're also sold in the US.

  5. I'm not really into the Trubalance last for these, it does not look refined enough for the direction we are heading on this boot, plus i already own the 405's with the same last and i'd like to try something different.

The Leydon looks much better (still i prefer Plaza )

Has anyone had experience with the Copley last?

Imo it would also be a good option.

About the possible 3-year waiting time, like YoungPunch said before, i'm just gonna start myself an Alden savings fund.

... will also save me some trouble with the lady :D she'll never notice how much they really cost me.

  6. I'm sticking with the plaza last, natural double leather sole preferably, speedhooks: Yes!

Most here seem to agree on both the cigar shell colour and the plain toe, so i assume that's a done fact?

No commando sole at least, it would not look good with the cigar shell i think.

  7. Finaly; Mich, what size did you get in your 51s compared to your measured waist size? If you get a second would you mind doing waist thight and hem measurements for me please. Also are they made of the XX denim?

    Many thanks.

Will measure up when i get home (at the office at the mo)

The denim is different from the normal XX, it's 15 oz and i think exclusive to the 1951XX type.

it has a great vintage like fade to it.

    edit: waist 86cm/34" - thigh 31cm/12" - hem 22cm/8.7"

    I'm a 33 waist myself.

Mine are tagged 34 so they shrunk and stretched to the exact tag size, if i'd do it again i would get them in a size 33 to reduce the hipflare on them, and the waist would eventually stretch to my body measurements anyway.

But with these i wanted to be sure they weren't going to be to small.

Because they are a contest pair they have my name stamped on the tag, so no chance of reselling them if they didn't fit.

And because the denim was new the shrinkage part was not totally clear, especially since the waist in raw state was bigger then on the regular XX type, but according to Denime they would also shrink a fair deal more than the regular ones.

  8. I'd definetly be interested in a sufu x Alden boot... In Cigar shell of course! That boot that struck the interest is definetly along the lines of what I would want.

    One more up for that!

Maybe there would even be interest in a small scaled kinda contest (just to see how everyone's pair would have evolved after a year or so)

  9. Normally the speed hooks, when laced, should sit more or less centerline down the ankle. The left half of the speed hooks, on my right boot, is not centerline, and instead is shifted half an inch out, placing them smack on my ankle.

    imgp4921fp6.jpg

Notice how the leather on the inside of the the ankle on the right boot doesn't match up to the left boot, by a fair margin. Ugh, now that I look at it closely, even the leather stitched onto the back of the right boot is seriously skewed...

I do see clearly what you mean, the inside ankle of the right boot is definitely drawn further back then on the left boot.

I'm sure that's a problem when walking because the tongue will not cover up the speedhooks on the inside.

Good decision to take them back to the shop.

With these shoes you'd want to have a lot of pleasure walking in them for a long time coming.

  10. CTB, The fit on the jacket does look good as it is, but i think for myself i'd also want it to be just a tiny bit more fitted, so a hot soak could definitely do no harm to the jacket.

I'm surprised to see the sleeves being that long on a Japanese denim jacket.
