  1. Of what I've owned:

PBJ XX-005: Incredible texture and fading, excellent cut if you get the proper size. I've had these for 11 months and have gotten pretty nice results. I'll probably end up getting another pair of these at some point sized up one or two.

Eternal 872/868: Streaky 18 oz denim with lots of character. Pictures don't accurately describe what these look like. Great inverted arcuate-esque pocket stitching. I love the fit too, which is a moderately slim straight cut (at least on me). Great change of pace from the PBJs. No idea how these are going to break in, but I'll find out soon enough.

APC New Standard: I'd recommend these to anyone. Super versatile and in my experience extremely durable. I've had mine since last January and have yet to have anything break on them. Oh, and they break in pretty nice, too. But you already know all this.

LVC 1947 501xx: Definitely a classic. I had to sell these because they were simply too tight (I didn't account for the post-soak shrink on my pair), but I liked them while I wore them, and can tell they would have faded well were I more of a masochist.

That ends my list for pairs I've owned. I've got dry black Nudie Slim Jims, but am not terribly impressed. The fit is pretty great, and I do like Nudie's stitching and details, but the denim is nothing special after handling the good stuff. I'd have to wear these an awful lot more than I do to make a dent in them. Hopefully I'll find a pair of Samurai S5000bk at some point, though I am curious about the coated black Thin Finns.

  2. It's not even terribly noticable, I wouldn't worry about it.

You may remember my PBJs which were really dirty looking even after a wash. The brown has since pretty much disappeared. Grease is a little different, I'm sure, but I'm sure with wear it will become less and less apparent.

  3. and that's a great thing for BIG as having actually gone to his store and spoken with Gordon, almost everytime i'm in NYC, you'll find that he's unbelieveably personable and is most helpful towards anyone who even steps foot in his store.

Seconded. I don't know how many times I've gone in there in the last year and just tried on pair after pair of jeans without actually buying. Everyone's always extremely helpful. When I go back up in July I'm going to grab a pair of 110XJs.

But this is a contest thread. I still plan to be in. Good work, Cheep.

  4. Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.

Definitely agree with you on the comparison to PBJs, Viv. After those, I needed to get something with a more generous fit, and these definitely fit the bill.

As for quick fading, we'll see. XX-005s are on hiatus until I get around to doing some repairs, so there's nothing to stop me from trashing these, except maybe the heat.

  5. That patch design is perfect.

Also, in regards to gull color, I'd prefer some color in favor of just white. It's a pretty special pair of jeans, and some tasteful bells and whistles would not be inappropriate.

Again, Chicken's patch wins. So stoked for this event.

  6. damn, an update from you-know-who:

Wow. I have to admit, I was skeptical about the Flathead worship that's been going on with the Self Edgers, because I'd not seen any proof that they break in as nice as the site says. I'm now convinced. That jacket's amazing.

  7. My 872s arrived today. First impression is that they're pretty amazing. Fit was pretty good raw, and should be better after the hot soak.

These are pretty much exactly what I was looking for in my next pair of jeans. Moderately slim fit, interesting denim, heavy weight. Red tab and arcuates don't hurt either. It's a good thing I have a few months before the contest and dd+1 stuff starts.
